GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Religion Name: The Blood Covenant, The Covenant, The Sanguine Pact, The Pact

  • Religion Type: Animistic Polytheism

  • Influence: Interplanetary

  • Symbol:

Crescent: The crescent is by far the most prevalent of all the symbols within The Blood Covenant and is one of a dozen or so divine symbols of power. The Cescent is tied to the spirit Jaegeris, who is usually evoked for power and skill usually in hunting, stalking, tracking, and one on one combat. Jaegeris is credited as being the one who initiated the Blood Covenant with sapient physical life, and tends to be viewed as somewhat of a friend to physical life even if his relationship with them is complicated.

Pyramid: Pyramids and triangles are another symbol of power heavily associated with another friendly spirit, Astrora. Astrora is believed to be an ally of physical life and often is evoked for defense against supernatural elements. Pyramids and triangles can be tattooed or painted on an individual to prevent possession, painted on structures to prevent haunting, pyramid trinkets can be constructed to act as objects of power to channel supernatural power, and pyramid structures themselves are considered impenetrable fortresses to the supernatural. Astrora is by far the most favored of the spirits for her willingness to help mortals.

Altesh: The Altesh is a simple geometric symbol of a square with a circle filling the inside, the top, sides, and bottom of the circle touching the square. It is the symbol of power for Null, a spirit associated with mischief, pain, and anarchy who has a certain love hate relationship with mortals. He is incredibly envious of mortals true Free Will and relishes in giving them opportunities to “practice it fully” by removing restraints in their mind causing them to lose empathy and act out. The Altesh is usually used to channel Null and his power into curses and the like, which usually backfire on whomever does the cursing. Null is seen as one of the greatest threats to mortals.

Hourglass: The hourglass is the symbol of power for the Trader, an ambiguous spirit who could care less for mortals. The Trader is known for his willingness to barter for various things, giving supernatural gifts, power, and the such in exchange. It is believed that all force users descended from individuals who made deals with The Trader to bless their bloodline with supernatural power in exchange for goods and things unique to the mortal world such as animals, metals, precious gems, etc, usually sacrificed to him in ways that would destroy the object (lava, fire, acid, etc).

Blood: Blood is held highly sacred as it is believed to be where left over supernatural energy lives within the mortal body from when a spirit adopts a mortal body. This is used within all sorts of ceremonies to seal deals, evoke power, etc.

  • Description: The Blood Covenant is a disorganized, decentralized, and diverse religion that spans Hutt Space and the Outer Rim in pockets of followers. Its beliefs are simple, that spirits inhabit everything, some are more powerful than others, and some like or despise physical beings. The Blood Covenant is a syncretic religion, adapting and adopting other religions and absorbing them into itself, explaining that their gods are nothing more than powerful spirits who have mislead mortal beings into thinking them more powerful than they actually are. Those who follow the Blood Covenant on one world may do completely differently than another, only sharing a base belief and a shared mythology.

The Blood Covenant also teaches that all mortal beings were once spirits, spirits who chose "Free Will" by giving themselves mortal bodies. Those without mortal bodies were restrained by the rules of the supernatural, only able to act within what ideas are associated with them. Mortals, on the other hand, are blank slates and have no definition, able to act however they wish even if they are weakened by maintaining the physical body. The Blood Covenant comes from those contacted by Jaegeris, a spirit associated with the hunt, who adopted mortal tribes into his pack and taught them of the supernatural world which they had forgotten. SOCIAL INFORMATION

  • Founder: Unknown.

  • Membership: There is no official way to be recognized as a believer, as that is all you have to be, a believer.

  • Sacred: Nothing in particular is inherently sacred, only sacred as so much that a particular spirit you align with holds it in high regard and you do as well in order to incur favor.

  • Dogma:

Spirits: The belief is that there are two forms of life, the physical life forms being an offshoot of the supernatural. Spirits are supernatural beings who hold no physical form, are associated with certain beliefs/practices, and gain power the more times that a mortal or another spirit participates in those beliefs/practices. The most powerful spirits have a very general associated such as Jaegeris who is associated with "hunting" which can be interpreted in many different ways, all of which he gains power from. While weaker spirits have specific associations such as a "Spirit of Trapping" so he/she gains power from people trapping, even though Jaegeris would also gain power from that as it is a kind of hunting. This is used to explain away various religions that may come into conflict with The Blood Covenant, the gods of these religions just being spirits with associations they force on their followers to gain more power. Spirits are also able to lend their power to those practicing what the spirit is associated with. It is even said that some spirits owe their existence to mortals who invented new ideas and practices that birthed new spirits.

Syncretism: Followers of The Blood Covenant adopt and blend with surrounding religions, simply believing that the gods or supernatural forces worshiped/respected are powerful spirits. This has sometimes led to whole religions slowly being replaced by followers of The Blood Covenant. This belief is also their main way of bringing others into their belief system, simply claiming that they worship one powerful spirit of many and that they have been misled into thinking that there is only spirit or group of spirits out there

Covenants: Covenants are unbreakable contracts usually written and signed in blood. It is believed should someone sign it in blood, and then break the contract, they will break an ancient and unspoken rule within the supernatural community and that spirits will begin to hunt them. It is from this practice that the religion gained its name.

  • Reputation: Many religions view The Blood Covenant as a heresy or blatant attack on their beliefs and tend to persecute those who follow the Blood Covenant as witches or immoral magic users. Other then that many just view them as disorganized cultists with various degrees of notoriety or morality depending on what spirit they worship and how they worship it. Some followers of this religion have founded great hospitals or police networks in the name of Astrora, a spirit associated with protection. Others have created hunting guilds to feed villages in the name of Jaegeris even if others hunt mortals for sport in the name of Jaegeris.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The religion's history is incredibly vague and scattered, but is believed that it was started by a combination of beliefs within Hutt slave camps and slowly spread across their space as slaves were deported and imported. As slaves earned their freedom they spread to the outer rim, bringing their faith with them. The oldest known recording of this faith is during the time of the Galactic Empire, but even then the followers claimed it was hundreds of years old.
