Orion Darkstar
The Rising Star
Slouched and exhausted after hours of arguing with the scientists about the preparations for his newest ambition, he slowly drifted off to sleep. His head tilted onto his clenched fist as the bright green illumination from the screen in front of him blinked. Shaking it off he sat upward, grunting and squinting. His deep, green eyes finally adjusted and as such he began to read back his entry. Sliding his finger through the air the Project name disappeared.
The Hivemind Project...
The second log that he swiped to the side had hundreds of notes and planning blueprints throughout. Smiling at the thought of such an endeavor, he removed his mask and began to make edits.
Day 03
While Artificial Intelligence is seen as a dangerous endeavor by some, others seem to think that it’s the future. Artificial Intelligence is only limited by its creator, only some seek to make their creations self-sufficient. The internal concept of a flourishing A.I. at its forefront tends to extend from the common aspects of a Computer Programming, Algorithms, and Capability to learn. These key features are needed for its success along with many other steps soon to follow.
While the galaxy has an exceptional amount of droids to be proud of many of them have heavily restricted patterns in their creations. I, however, seek to make something more than a feeble minded droid. Though the task could be daunting, my mind has ventured far and wide to find the materials as well, as an official use for my new project. Although many seem to use A.I. for a selective amount of purposes mine will need to be constantly alert, paranoid, and highly intelligent.
The idea of expanding a world of technology into a new era over computer based systems, means my programming along with my scientist’s learning patterns will have to be made from scratch. With that in mind we’ve gone over a multitude of ideas for the neurological implementation of the A.I. Instead of a modeling the A.I. after the human brain, we’ve decided on a Hive.
The Hivemind (what my fellow colleagues are calling it) will serve as a honeycomb branch of endless networks and circuity fed to the intelligence system, this will allow for a heavy work load and a deeper capacity for extra coding and protocols to protect us along the way. The Hivemind will be created from a large dome, filled with state of the art lenses and camera’s all linked throughout the facility, the reason for this will be to test the A.I. at perception and surveillance. After all, seeing is believing.
With the brain idea out of the way I needed a place to start, we knew what the A.I. would be used for and why…we just needed a breakthrough start of how. So we brainstormed for days, even weeks. Many nights we tested each other on how our ideas would actually mold well enough to form our first prototype.
This led us to animation and computer programming, since our A.I. wouldn’t be a physical walking being. It would be able to mimic millions of animations sent to the Hivemind, specifically stored to project itself at will throughout the facility at any given time. (Holo-Image, Intercoms, ect..)
With two of the main features finally underway, we asked ourselves, what limits are there to this incredible project? The scary answer was we needed a form of personality and a way to control it. A.I. can be extremely dangerous if it evolves past the levels of various species throughout the galaxy. This was something I knew from the start had to be contained. So I decided that a being with a sense of Order, Honor, and Protocols to serve its initial purpose had to be infused. This would prevent potential horrific disasters later on in the finalizing stages of its creation. I also didn’t want it to be capable of physically creating itself manually. So, I added a scripted algorithm that restricts that feature completely.
Since our facility is actually a ship I wanted to allow our project to gain knowledge of piloting and giving it full control of the ships systems by the end of it all. This would prove our success at an alarming rate.
The intelligence of my project will carefully be administered through a tedious amount of unorthodox scriptures and common forms of teaching used throughout the galaxy. This will make the A.I. more human with its undertaking. Communication is also going to be implemented at a later date, the thought of talking to one of my many creations brings me joy.
Lacking a mainframe structure or body it will take quite a long while to start the circuitry and construction of the Hivemind. Since our A.I. has no physical droid, or mechanical body of its own it will be able to function through the entirety of the ship from the Hivemind in many ways. I look forward to seeing our progress in the near future, my thirst for knowledge still grows it seems, as well as the dark side.
