Strengths:
  • Bombardment. The Azrvak'zarsh has a formidable array of long ranged and heavy weapons. It can perform the role of command ship and carrier whilst providing real supporting firepower on enemy capital ships.
  • Carrier. Holding 10 squadrons, usually 120 starfighters, the Azrvak'zarsh can unleash a swarm of attack craft to first clear away the enemy fighters and then attack the enemy.
  • Flak. With literally hundreds of defence guns, the Azrvak'zarsh can provide a near impenetrable web of death for any enemy attack craft which might get close. The quad lasers especially can either work together or separately to suppress or destroy enemy ships.
  • Command. As the Firemane mobile command HQ, the Azrvak'zarsh is equipped with sensor feeds, a large on-board army and technical experts for any situation.
Weaknesses:
  • Escorts. One enemy the Azrvak'zarsh does fare worst against is escort ships such as corvettes or frigates. These ships are usually too fast to be hit by the big guns, and too strong to be damaged by the defence weapons.
  • Damage. The Azrvak'zarsh is designed for support roles, not engaging enemy capital ships at close range. In such a duel it will likely lose to a dedicated assault destroyer because its damage output is less. Such a ship might have as much as 2.5 the capital guns of the Azrvak'zarsh.
  • Slow. Despite being of average speed for a destroyer, the ship is still slow and heavy to manoeuvre. It will find it hard to escape from a close pursuit.
  • Lynchpin. The Azrvak'zarsh is an extremely valuable ship to Firemane. Its committal to battle is a rare thing because its loss would be a major financial, crewing and prestige loss.
Description:
The impressively named Azrvak'zarsh was conceived as the flagship for Firemane as well as being a mobile HQ for their operations.
The name comes from the Kar’zun word for ‘Great Scarlet Fire’, the honorific given to both Directors of Firemane; Tegaea Alcori and Siobhan Kerrigan. Since it fits in well both with their egos but also their luscious Firemanes it is a term they adopted.

Since Firemane’s naval assets are almost always used in a support or convoy role, the Azrvak'zarsh is designed not to charge direction into a fleet action. Instead, it offers considerable bombardment capabilities and the ability to unleash a large amount of attack craft. For defence it is quite well armed with flak and protected by heavy armour and shields.

More importantly, it serves as a mobile base of operations, able to deploy an army if needed and also maintaining the research and corporate facilities necessary to run a galactic company. The Azrvak'zarsh can also dock with ships of cruiser or frigate size, either to move troops or materials between them.
