ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:
Hard to stop: It’s fast, has excellent shields, makes a slim profile and has good countermeasures. The Azimuth was customised to get small items to places they’re not meant to be.
Stealthy-ish: Whilst it has a large hyperdrive signature, it can cruise below lightspeed fairly quietly.

Weaknesses:
Line ‘em up: the rear turret is only effective against lightly shielded vessels. The front cannons have a small firing arc. The combination of ion cannon and disruptor cannon can be used as a one-two punch but only if the Azimuth lines up its targets. There are no torpedoes.
Power draw: Ventru managed to replace the standard laser cannon with a supped up Vanir disruptor cannon typically used against heavy tanks. Only the ion cannon or disruptor cannon can be fired at a time. It gives the Azimuth similar forward firepower to an x-wing, but requiring more management and with no torpedoes for serious power. On top of this customisations to the ship over the years have a habit of shorting the reactor in tight spots.
Limited cargo capacity for a ship of its size.

DESCRIPTION
The ship is nearly fifty years old, making it one of Vanir’s first forays into the light freighter industry. This shows. It was more of a technical showcase than a true production model. Some systems are highly advanced, other interfaces have a habit of breaking at the wrong time.

It was a labour of love for Vetru’s mother. From the garish paint scheme to some lavish interiors in the galley and crew cabins. Some systems work better than they did on release, other customisations have led to “manual work arounds”. Vetru normally has to power on and power off the ship before it will fully start up properly. He often jokes that the precise combination of switches to get it running is a more complex security mechanism than the code cylinder required to start the reactor. The transponder re-encoder marries up with at least a dozen identities he has registered for the ship.

A neuranium lined cargo bay keeps often illegal cargo that has a sensor signature from being detector by patrol vessels. There are plenty of nooks and crannies for smuggling, but it has a limited cargo capacity.

Vetru knows the ship like the back of his hand. He knows the illegal components that need to be hidden and those to check first when something breaks. The Azimuth is, however, a true pleasure to fly. The cockpit shudders to the roar of the powerful engines and the pilot has near instant feedback through the controls. It’s a garish, loud freighter and he would not give it up for the world.
