OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

SETTING INFORMATION

  • Structure Name: The Asylum (Officially), Ri Winasi Roksota (Unofficially)

  • Classification: Asylum/Laboratory

  • Location: Maena

  • Affiliation: Jacob Crawford

  • Accessibility: The Asylum is very remote, located at one of the furthest points on Maena in relation to the New City. It's situated at the far end of the Wastelands, where mountains border the land and preside over the dead sea there. Built both atop and within one of the mountainsides, it's impossible to reach by foot or land vehicle. One could attempt it by ascending the cliff face, but such a thing would be pointless. The only way of accessing is by air, whether it be a ship or something as simple as a taxi from New City. The tower has a main landing area, consisting of two seperate pads that lead to the main entrance itself. Albeit even then, only Jacob and those that he permits, are able to access the building itself.

  • Security: The tower itself does not have a whole lot when it comes to defence, nor does it particularly need it. Internally there is a sizable security force to keep guard of the lower levels. A portion of which are allocated to the asylum section incase any of the patients manage to escape. And the remainder preside over the levels further down that contain the various experiments and productions going on. Other than that, the structure has been alchemized to create a living structure, capable of allowing certain aspects of it to be controlled via mental commands. Either from Jacob directly or others that have been granted the authority.

  • Description: The Asylum is built atop of a mountain, resting at its peak that overlooks the sea. At first glance it appears as a simple spire, breaking up the once peaceful mountainous horizon that could be seen from the Slums. It stands as a lone building, preciding at the crest where land and water meet. The land twisted by the Dark Side, forcing volcanic activity across its expanse. The Asylum sits outside of that range, looking over barren land that make up the Wastelands. On the other side is the dead sea, devoid of any life one would expect.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Foyer: The first area anyone arriving at The Asylum will see is the entrance hall/foyer. After arriving at the landing pads, there is a set of double doors at the end of a walkway. After passing through the entrance there is a protocol droid stationed at a desk. Behind that is a wall that stretches out in both directions but each end contains a doorway. Beyond that is the hall itself, a reasonably large space with plenty of open room and not much more. On the far side is a large transparisteel window allowing for a view of the sea. Above it is a some scripture carved into the wall, written in High Sith it says: Ri Winasi Roksota, titji driyi ri Tsûduma Kita. To the left from the entrance is a pair of elevators that go down towards the lower levels only. Whereas to the right is a single elevator that leads to the upper levels.

Library: Being someone who has a thirst for knowledge, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Jacob had a library built as part of his residence. It is the first level of the residence section, taking up the entire floor. The elevator opens to the middle of the library, with the right side of the room filled with shelves containing a mix of physical and digital records consisting of various books, datacards and tapes. Whereas to the left is a seating area, with a couch, a couple chairs, table and a fireplace. Aside from that, the library has an interior balcony that wraps around, reachable via a small spiral staircase located by the elevator.

Training Room: A level above that is probably the least expected to be so close to somewhere as quiet as the library. However the training room has been soundproofed keeping all the inevitable racket contained within. It's sizable enough to accommodate a number of people at once and still remain comfortable when sparring. In addition several systems have been integrated into the room, ranging from saber training with drones, to fighting against a set amount of droids.

Personal Quarters & Study: Near the top of the tower is Jacob's quarters, finely decorated but sparse of anything particularly extravagant. It contains all the necessities one would expect, though it also includes a balcony that overlooks the nearby beach. Attached to this is Jacob's study and office, decorated in a similar style but a deal more untidy. Various items are spread across the desk, usually picked up from the library below and never put back.

Meditation Chamber: At the very top of the Asylum is a room that only Jacob has ever set foot in. It's a circular room with a skylight in the ceiling that can be closed up if needed. Out of everything in the tower, the meditation chamber is the most private, constantly locked up even when Jacob is inside. If someone else were to somehow find themselves in there, they'd find evidence of the madness that lurks within Jacob's mind.

The Asylum: Heading to the left elevators in the foyer will lead down to the asylum itself. To the general public of Maena these levels were the main reason for the building's construction. To house the clinically insane far away from civilization. And more commonly than not, the patients are a result from experiments within the Unit and Tower. The layout is an organized system of hallways, kept clean and neat throughout. Plenty of rooms to keep the patients comfortable, with a recreation area and cafeteria located in the centre of it all. Additionally a section of it is dedicated as living quarters for the staff along with the security stationed there, including individual rooms and another cafeteria. Although that section is regularly kept locked away from the patients.

The Labs: The lowest levels of the building are dedicated to developing and experimenting with biochemical weapons, specifically overseen and decided upon by Jacob. It's kept hidden from everyone but the staff and those that he trusts. The elevators leading down do not contain any visible means to get to these floors, and the only means of descending that far is either being there with Jacob or have been given the permission. The labs have a similar orderly layout as the asylum levels, but its style and state of the art facilities mirror the Unit. In addition, the staff are kept on these levels and as such have designated living quarters. The section is secured away from the actual lab testing, and contains the usual amenities.

Hangar: In order to keep the facility supplied, a hangarbay was built into the mountainside, specifically designed to blend in with the terrain and keep it hidden. The size of it is just large enough to contain a couple larger ships and a few smaller ones at the same time. Albeit anything bigger than a large freighter will find it impossible to land inside.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

To an outsider’s perspective; one that didn’t know Maena’s history, they would likely see the Asylum’s construction as being the result of its owner’s simple desire to build something. But the reality was there was a history to the reason why it was built, and where.

The first inkling began back when Jacob had first explored Maena’s New City, soaking in what the place had to offer, hear what made for gossip amongst its residents. There was something specific that had caught his attention, that led him to the Slums were the whispers became more prominent. They spoke of a legend, supposedly originating back to the time of the Gulag Plague. Maena had been no exception to it, and it ravaged it like any other planet in the galaxy. The people infected fled from their homes, or left whatever shreds of their life that remained and journeyed across the large expanse of land that was now commonly known as The Wastelands. As with any unwritten history, whether lost to time or simply not put to paper, there were countless rumours as to why.

The most commonly heard one was a pilgrimage, that they left their loved ones in peace and traveled to live their remaining days in peace and incapable of spreading it any further. However the reality was very different, as Jacob discovered after tracing that very same path and finding himself at a mountainside, overlooking the same beach [member="Irajah Ven"] had brought him to that fateful day that changed him.

The truth of the matter, was that everyone that had made the journey; and survived it, threw themselves from the mountain and into the sea below. Jacob had stood upon that very spot and let himself be pulled into the countless memories that still lingered to this day.

There was power at that spot, and was what eventually brought Jacob to broaching the topic of building something there with [member="Matsu Xiangu"]. It was a bold request for an apprentice to make, as was reflected in the Atrisian's initial reaction. But Jacob was the type of person to always come prepared in such situations, detailing his reasoning and just what exactly he had learned. The fact there had been an exodus of people was news to Matsu, that and the legends spread about that occasion was something she hadn't stumbled upon herself. It was something Jacob filled her in on as they took a journey across the Wastelands, after requesting to see the location for herself.

"Can you hear them singing?"

That had been his opening line when he had begun to describe the area. Reaching out to hear the wailing of spirits still trapped atop the mountainside. It was a location of death, condensed in one place as each person threw their bodies into the sea, never realizing they were damning their souls. He wanted to build something here, to harness the moments of death along with the planet's Nexus. And Matsu had agreed, laying the majority of the responsibility on him. Aside from the actual construction itself, Jacob would have to do the rest. But he had zero qualms with that, and immediately set about drawing up plans.

It took time, but the architects and builders provided were worked to the bone. Leaving Jacob to imbue some blood, death and alchemy into the tower's final touches.
