That's a very mediocre commodity.

A brain, that is.

Every pusillanimous creature that crawls the lands or swims the seas has a brain. Why, anybody can have a brain! But where Magda came from there were universities, stations of great learning, schools of unimaginable studies where people go to become great thinkers. They come out and they think deep thoughts but with no more brain than any other.

What they do have, however, is a diploma.

Also, sometimes, they had holocrons and various trinkets as proof of their great learning.

Magie had all three, but at this point in time none of those things seemed to matter. All that mattered was the fact that her bank account was slowly drying up - that mattered. So here she was, sitting amidst stars and spaceports unfamiliar, waiting for the face of the person who would soon be filling that account back up.

Provided she survived the trip or, like, she wasn't hoodwinked.

[member="Visegar Maere"] was a curious name indeed, and like most others she'd come into contact with - not one she recognized at all. He needed to go to Atrisia and he needed a ride. Magda liked to assume that anyone needing to go to Atrisia via chauffeur was likely someone rolling in the dough. Also his name sounded fancy, and fancy totally equated to riches.

Totally.

Brains were, indeed, a very mediocre commodity. That was why the small cooler Visegar had lugged into the bathroom with him was filled with ice and a pair of kidneys. Humans and near-humans had a weird tendency to suffer kidney failure, so their going price on the market was much higher than that of a brain. Visegar fancied himself a general thief. If it happened to be within arm's reach, he was probably going to try and steal it. He had no specialty. He wasn't a gem thief or a safe cracker or a drug paddler. Visegar just stole things- usually from pockets or lockers at local gyms. It wasn't as if he had to obey any strict conduct rules. He was a thief.

It just so happened that someone's kidneys were in reach. Honestly, Visegar had no idea whose kidneys they were. It really wasn't relevant. He just happened to find them in a battery-powered fridge within a storage unit he broke into about two nights ago. They were probably there awaiting pick-up from whoever purchased them. Clearly some organ thief was going to be getting a poor space-Yelp review for this, because a customer was now deprived of his rightfully purchased kidneys. Not Visegar's problem. He wasn't losing any sleep over it. Whoever the kidneys had been taken from probably would.

On this side of the spaceport the large bathroom was empty. Rightly so, because it was filthy and rarely anyone ventured over to this side. Inside there was an Aqualish waiting.

"Are you Vinegar Mary?"
"Close enough."

Why an Aqualish needed human kidneys was beyond him. Perhaps it was a delicacy on Ando. Visegar had sold worse things to worse people, however, so he made no further comment. Visegar relinquished the cooler in exchange for a sack of credits. Once Visegar was finished counting the credit chips (and the Aqualish his kidneys), the men wordlessly exited the bathroom. Now that his prior business was taken care of, Visegar could move on to more prestigious heists and subsequent sales. As a matter of fact, he had his get-away driver waiting for him in the adjacent hangar bay.

"Good, you're on time," said Visegar, who was approximately seventeen minutes late and counting as he approached. Visegar was not a wealthy criminal. His clothing was largely dirty and disheveled, which was not totally different from how he also appeared. Dirty deeds done dirt cheap tended to have that kind of affect on appearances. "We should leave. Quickly."

Perhaps more than a little giddy over a successful sale, Visegar hardly thought to question the age of his chauffeur for the day- nor how she could afford such a lavish vessel as was poised behind her.

Atrisia - also known as Kitel Phard, is a planet steeped in great history. Said to be a place of great beasts and demigods, Atrisia's later fall into Anti-Force User status shifted a change in their Empirical standings. The Atrisian Inquisition sought to cleanse nearby systems of Force Users and impose upon them heavy laws. It is said that their spoils of this crusade are kept in secret, high-security vaults all across Atrisia. Historically, the Atrisian people ...

"Good, you're on time."

With a yelp the young woman sitting on the boarding ramp of the Magesteria looked up just in time to see the advancing figure of a young, tawdry looking fellow. Magda had been absorbed in her datapad reading up on Atrisian Empire because not only had she been on time, she'd been an hour early.

If you're early, you're on time.

Punctuality is something she'd inherited from her mother, for certain, and Magda recalled that rarely was the rest of the galaxy so well-learned in that particular character aspect.

You're late if you're on time.

She picked herself up, folding her datapad case shut and holding it at her back as she cleared her throat to introduce herself, only to be cut off.

"We should leave. Quickly."

"The ship is-" and that's about the time bright blue eyes settled squarely on the wily Umbaran standing before her. Despite his ruddy, disheveled appearance all she saw was a blond, glowing demi-god, tall and lean, sculpted face, roguish grin, "-perfect..."

Wut.

"..ahem, perfectly ready for departure, Mr. Maere. Do you have any belongings you need to stow?"

Yeah, nice.

Gabriel Lethe, Maggy’s older brother, was clearly less impressed with the shining beacon of masculinity and gruff ruggedness - which didn’t really mean a lot in any manner of comparison, because apparently Maggy was already half in love and he himself didn’t have a lot when it came to an opinion.

Besides finding it just a little bit odd that the older fellow had left the bathroom together with Aqualish, not that Gabby would judge about things like that.

Perhaps he was just slightly more cosmopolitan in his tastes.

“Besides the wealth of hair conditioner you must carry around, she means.” Lethe would say shortly after her, his legs crossed, arms sprawled across the railing of their seat and eyes wandering about the scenery.
This wasn’t really so bad, perhaps Meggy did have a point when she insisted on this little job

His gaze fell on whoever had made that ludicrous hair conditioner comment. His eyes narrowed, but ultimately he said nothing.

Visegar could already see that it was fitting for this rapscallion to be making such uninspired comments regarding his hair. If Visegar had the poor fortune to tote such a malformed hairpiece as this hooligan, he would have lashed out at his betters as well. There had been no mention of someone else coming along. This one did not look particularly sharp. Then again, neither did Maggy, judging by the far-off look in her eyes she got when she saw him. But Visegar didn't need Mags for her intelligence- he just needed a vessel. She had a purpose, but this man certainly didn't. For what Visegar intended, this man was only going to act as an unnecessary complication.

"Please, call me Visegar." He said to Magdalena, now smiling warmly. "And no, I'm ready to leave."

Hopefully he was just some uppity deckhand to be left behind here. There had been no mention of any other losers also being on this voyage.

"Please, call me Visegar. And no, I'm ready to leave."

Magda felt herself melt at the warmth of his smile. Just a little. Totally unnoticeable.

"Okay..." a dopey grin drooped into her expression for the briefest of seconds before she caught herself. There came another delicate cough, "if you insist, I mean. We launch at once!"

She strode up the gangway and into the nose of the ship, pausing within the Dep Chamber and motioning Visegar in.

"Right this way, Visegar, straight back through the cargo hold will take you to the main lounge. Make yourself comfortable while I get us in the air."

Hurry up Gabe ... she eyed her brother, hanging back and waiting for him to get inside before closing up the rampway, "Conditioner?" she hissed at him, "Really?" Cause, like, he totally had no room to talk. Always stealing her conditioner.
