PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Name: Tempestite

Manufacturer: N/A produced naturally.

Affiliation: Seth Brackson (Discoverer), SJO, force users who locate it afterword through guidance or knowledge.

Homeworld (optional): Unmarked planet in SJO territory.

Production: Unique to Semi-unique. Quantity of crystal is very scarce, and very hard to find.

Modularity: No

Material: Crystal which is soft, malleable, but durable.

PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Classification: Mineral

Weight: Varies based on size of cut. Natural deposit very heavy.

Resistances: The crystal itself is moderately restant to blasters and kinetic damage.

Color: Sea green, Aqua, Ocean blue, Cobalt blue, and electric blue.

Unknown: shocking violet.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The properties of this material outside of a lightsaber are unknown. Except they pulse at the nearing of a thunderstorm and sing a solemn melody during the occurence of one even clapping in synch with thunder. Additionally for unknown reasons this lightsaber crystal seems semi-sentient.

Inside a lightsaber. They produce a unnaturally bright blade that is average at the base through at the tip where it narrows into a point. The blade emmits a static aura, and crackles in addition to hums while it moves through the air. Oddly the blade seems to also react to thunderstorms. The intensity, crackling and hum intensifying.

Strengths:

Physical: The crystal is very very loyal to the user it bonds with. Only able to be activated by them or individuals intimately close to the person. (See weakness for balancing)

The crystal when bonded to a person can provide visions and limitedly communicate with them. The stronger the bond the more frequent this occurs. This can be further explained down in the section of description. Though summarized is often times completed through meditation, and through dreams. These visions... And moments of 'hearing' the crystal are often vague.. And sometimes portrayed in ominous images, or riddles. Opposed to the even rarer direct messages.. Which some individuals may never hear, nor see.

Traits: In lightsaber.

The electric aura often times wards off predatory creatures. Through a combination of the crackling and static vibes it gives off, it Instills in them a sense of danger as if though an impending storm is coming. Encouraging them to seek shelter.

Has a special feature. The first time a lightsaber with this crystal encounters any lightsaber for the first time. It creates a flashbang like pulse. Which is both bright and loud. Often times blinding and deafening anyone within a rough 10 yard radius of the clash for a good few moments. (See weaknesses it covers balancing) as well as creating a shockwave that repels the opponents blade and rarely disarms it. It also has the potential to stun individuals for a very limited duration. Finally during this clash it gives the wielder a surge of energy enhancing a wielders force potential moderately for a short duration.

Weaknesses: lots of them!

Physical: The crystal is very stubborn and difficult to bond with. Taking months of meditation. Additionally if a bonded user has a drastic change in allignment or nature. The crystal feels it is betrayed and dies as a result.

Seperation from the crystal for extensive time periods. Has weakening effects to both wielder and blade. This cannot be recovered from unless reunited or the bond is completely severed. The reunification process often consisting of a short period of meditating with the crystal to reignite the bond.

In a lightsaber:

The static aura rarely triggers a fight response out of predatory creatures. Enabling them into a berserk mode and making them more dangerous.


In regards to the second ability.

Anybody beside the wielder both friend or foe is at risk of the flashbang within a 10 yard radius.

The stun effect is negated by armor, use of the force, or a mind who is expecting the effect.

The blindness and deafening can be negated through the force. Either that or specialized equipment. Such as a visor or goggles for the blindness. Even a hood and a turn away to avoid the flash. While the auditory effects can be negated by thick padding, head phones, or even communication devices with a muffling effect. Finally anyone naturally blind or deaf, or who relies on the force can ignore these effects.

The pulse can with concentration be countered back towards the wielder. Especially if anticipated. With the possibility to disarm them instead.

After the short surge of energy. The wielder experiences moderate physical fatigue and minor force fatigue. Irregardless of how physically and mentally fit they are.

This effect is unavoidable and only happens once per contact per lightsaber. Always upon the time the blades first meet. If that blade clashes with the same lightsaber again. The effect will not trigger irregardless the passing of time. Meaning in most one on one situations it is a one time deal and then done.


DESCRIPTION
Tempestite occurs naturally in the caverns of an unmarked world within the silver jedi order territory. It was first discovered through an under ground pool. Opening up into a once unknown hidden pocket within the cavern. Seth Brackson was the first known discoverer of this crystal. Which will be detailed in the above mentioned thread which is in progress.

The bonding process of this lightsaber crystal is.. Curious. In addition to imbuing the lightsaber with their force energies and signature. The process of converting the crystal to be usable in a lightsaber. Is akin to a conversation.. And a dance. Individuals must meditate upon it. Letting the crystal come to know and understand them. Users experiencing this process also come to form an understanding of their crystal. It's temperment. Preference in handling. Preferred alignment. Even sometimes seeing 'visions' and hearing their crystals. Sometimes during the meditation and sometimes during dreams.

As the crystal and the would be weilder bond. They in essence become an extension of one another. This too also helps the crystal interact with others. As it seems to form trust towards individuals the weilder is exceptionally close to. Such as family, very close friends, and significant others. While also understanding when an individual is to be percieved as a threat, or indifferent towards. Thus refusing to respond to any individual not close to whom the initial bond was formed with.

If parted fron one another. Both parties suffer a loss of identity. After an extended period of separation. The weilder and crystal are at risk of weakening. Until re-united (at which point the wielder may need to meditate upon the crystal once more) or the bond is severed completely. Additionally if the original wielder dies. Unless passed to an individual who was close to them. To accept as a master. The crystal is liable to die as well.

This process is also why the crystal suffers so much at a drastic change in allignment and nature. As it is not only the weilder who changes. It is often time a change forced upon the crystal as well, and as such. The crystal will often times feel this as a deep insult and betrayal and as such die. No longer being able to be wielded.

It also has the potential to stun individuals for 3 seconds. Finally during this clash it gives the wielder a surge of energy enhancing physical traits and senses moderately and force techniques mildly for about 7 seconds.

Generally in the factory, we do not use hard numbers for stun or affecting potential. That is up to the person who is affected by such events. The Hard Numbers will have to be removed with "has a potential to stun individuals for a time."

The second concern of this, is that it give the wielder more physical power. Which is, to my knowledge of canon, not been used before. While there are times where a lightsaber could give you "more force potential" or even recharge the wielder with spent force energies, Physically changing the actions of the character is a no go.

I recommend that the last statement would be changed to "It allows the wielder to have a surge of potential force energy at their disposal." And here is my reasoning.

Increasing only their physical strength limits those who could use this. A Force Sage is more likely going to use force powers, than that of their physical strength. Secondly, Aiding in potential force powers, means that it is a Net positive for anyone who chooses to use this crystal, No matter what style of fighting they have, AND it would be more balanced than it's current state.

This I believe is much like creatures staying away from camps because of large fires or whatever right? Unless it has a different effect, then this is fine, just note that this is not related to the force itself, but just because of the crackling of the saber itself.

What sort of level would this communication be? Just like a "Gut feeling" where the "voice in your head" tells you to do something, or is this more along the lines of a "soul" that actively talks to you? I will go ahead and tell you now, that with the current set up of this crystal, it is very powerful. Even more so than some Canon crystals you can find. So I highly recommend this be limited to just a very limited Precognition effect, than a living being.

Reunited as in, like the reforge the connection to the crystal? Because otherwise someone may assume they just need to take a Lightsaber on a date if their bond is broken. lol

The hard numbers here will have to go as well, and to match what I recommended earlier, you could have it that the user can suddenly feel drained from its usage, or could tend to be more sluggish after the usage of this ability.

I very much enjoy this weakness being added, however I have one last question about it at the moment.

Can this effect be "turned off" or otherwise not be allowed to happen until the users choosing? An example would be if only sparring with a friend, and they could "negate" this charge so that it doesn't damage friendlies, And/or, could it Hold this abilities charge until an advantageous moment in a battle?

Overall, I am very much enjoying the layout and the thought that was put behind this crystal. I look forward to seeing what other kinds of items you can bring to the table, and even see this one in action. I just have some tweaks that I would like to be done, and I think we should be good to go.

Although a lot of your questions and concerns were addressed in the description section of the thread. I have edited in turn to better highlight them. A major example is the communication from the crystal. This is often done through times the user is meditating or dreaming.

Secondly. I believe I have removed all hard numbers. Aside from the 10 yard radius. As I feel highlighting the distance in which the effect is.. Well effective. Makes moderate sense.

Next off the physical enhancement was intentional. Though I understand the balancing issues, and why this is a no go now. So, I respect your ruling.

This lightsaber crystal was strongly inspired by a thunderstorm. Particularly a lightning strike. Where a person wielding this blade does so. Because they chose to wield a weapon very effective at engaging other lightsaber wielders with the intent of hitting quick and hard, in the hopes of finishing a fight before it progresses too much, and suffering should the engagement be prolonged. The physical boost was suppose to be akin to an adrenaline surge.

However. For balancing. I did remove the physical boost like you suggested, and focused it more to a temporary boost in force ability.

Finally. No. There is no optional trigger effect, or the ability to hold off for a better moment. I added this to the thread. It was stated as upon first contact with difinitive intent. As again this was a crystal designed to be used in a lightsaber where the user needed a weapon which ideally places an opponent into a position of surrender, retreat, or incapacitation. As quickly as possible, where the wielder suffers in turn should it fail to do so.
