  • Advanced Weapon Systems

    Gravity Hook Launchers: The Talon III is equipped with four, two on port and two on starboard side gravity hook launchers. Unfortunately, this is not only quite niche but the range in which it needs in order to actually be of use. Five kilometers to start lining up and marking where to hit and within about two kilometers in order to actually fire the launchers. Tensor fields, field disruptor emitters, and the inertial dampener emitters are there to help the hooks do their job and to help the Talon maintain them without consequence to itself.

  • Comet, Mass Driver Cannons: Based on the rail gun concept, the Comet fires projectiles at 6 km/s and uses three rails lined with electromagnetics. In addition, the Comet is turreted allowing it a wider firing arc. Drawbacks on the Comet include upkeep and ammunition during longer engagements.

Advanced Flight Control

  • Vitus-Series Attitude Thrusters: Allows the Talon to make adjustments in realspace which work best if and when the Talon would be required to make a reach with gravity hooks in realspace. Otherwise, the system is not in use and is seen as redundant as most of the Talon’s use will be from sublight and ion engines.


Strengths:

  • Comet: Equipped with a turreted mass driver cannon, the Talon III is able to shoot at longer distances and in a wider arc.

  • Hooks: Corusca lined gravity hooks controlled by repulsors are attached to the Talon III making her a brutal foe in the close range battle. Her primary focus with the gravity hooks is to pull into larger pieces of debris. In battle, however, the hooks would be very unforgiving to any life on a ship.
Weaknesses:

  • Size Matters: For both the gravity hooks and the mass driver cannon, the smaller the target the more likely it is that both will miss/have a harder time of hitting them. Both devices work best on ships from around three hundred meters and upwards, smaller ships have an easier go at evading them.

  • Range, Gravity Hooks: A key weakness for the Talon III is the range that it needs to be in, in order to be able to truly live up to its role. The Talon III must be within five kilometers at least to even start making its assessments for its own hooks. And within two kilometers to even fire them and of course, there is no guarantee that they’d hit even at that range.

  • Range, Comet: Consequently, the Comet Mass Driver Cannon while impeccable at the long range, saw a decaying rate of return the closer it shot. The accuracy went wide and shots missed the closer the enemy was to the vessel. This is due to sheer recoil the Cannon gives upon firing, the best example would be attempting to shoot a high caliber sniper rifle from the hip versus scope.

  • Maneuverability: The Talon III lacks the maneuverability that ships in her class tend to actually have. Moving forward in a straight line she’s fine, ask her to turn and you’re going to find that it is quite painful. Giving her opponents the opportunity to not only flank her but shoot her where it hurts before the ship can successfully evade.

  • Weapon Vulnerability: The Talon III like many [SIZE=10pt]space-faring vessels [/SIZE]are weak to ion/emp based weapons which can cause her systems to shut down completely.
Description:

As part of the Mark III Project, the former Raptor II received [SIZE=10pt]its[/SIZE] modernization refit into the Talon III.

With Primo Victoria looking to partner with Salvage Companies in order to pull raw material and scrap from the numerous boneyards across the galaxy. The Talon III was brought to mind for this project, keeping however with her old game of Mass Driver Cannons and Gravity Hooks. The hooks are lined with [SIZE=10pt]Corsuca[/SIZE] Gems which do require a reapplication/inspection every three months versus. Secondly, they work as repulsor controlled giving a human/near-human operator the ability to line up his hook shot and fire. Redundant inertial dampeners keep the hooks under control when fired with the tensor fields and field disruptor emitters working to help punch through shielding.

This, however, does not guarantee that the hooks will go through the shields if confronted with an opposing vessel. Furthermore, the hooks are useless until within two kilometers and rarely if ever are ships this close to each other in combat. The hooks, as well as the new Mass Driver Cannons, work on vessels that are sized about three hundred meters and upwards. Smaller ships which are typically faster and more maneuverable have an easier time evading them.

The Talon III lacks maneuverability making her vulnerable when she turns. Even as turreted weapons, the mass drivers are slow to turn and the gravity hooks take time to readjust their aims as well. Given one works best at long range and the other at slow range, there are a variety of situations in which the Talon III will find herself relying solely on her torpedoes and [SIZE=10pt]turbolasers[/SIZE].

Additionally, it is up to the writers on whether or not they will take damage from the gravity hooks, therefore, the gravity hooks cannot be used to call hits on opposing writers, and do not auto-hit.
