Description:

The Takao-class Frigate was Asahi's answer to a capable escort ship that could also function as a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) ship as well as an effective small engagement type craft.

The Takao features a hard hitting array of weapons, most noticeable being the heavy, dual turbolaser mounted on a turret situated on the bow of the Frigate. The ship also possesses a number of warhead tubes and adequate point defense for anti-starfighter and anti-missile roles. The Takao is designed to rapidly reinforce weakened points in the fleet during hostile engagements and is also capable of screening far larger ships of the fleet. The Kaze Engine mounted internally allows the ship to reach where it needs to go as quickly as possible to reinforce the wall or to flank the enemy. Because of this, it also functions well as a heavy scout vessel in more dangerous areas of space.

The Frigate is not without its downfalls, however. The mounted Kaze engine removes all hangar space, leaving the Takao to rely on the carriers it often protects for increased anti-fighter/anti-missile roles. The size of the Kaze also makes the engine somewhat easier to hit in combat. Unlike the Shimushu or the Ukuru, the Takao mounts most of its capital weapons to the port and starboard while featuring a heavy turret mounted on the bow. This limits the amount of fire the ship as a whole can pour into an enemy ship, even with the turret capable of swinging 250 degrees around. Finally, the reactor runs on hypermatter, making engine damage potentially catastrophic for the ship and crew.

Everything looks to be in order. I'm curious about the tracking speed of that big turret, but that's not a detail that would endanger the approval of this sub.

So Approved, pending Secondary Approval.
