Taelen Velara
Character
Name: Taelen Velara
Rank: Jedi Padawan
Faction: THP/THR
Age: 16
Species: Human
Homeworld: Brentaal IV
Gender: Male
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 140
Force Sensitive: Yes
Background
Taelen Velara was born in the bustling trade nexus of Brentaal IV, a Core World where starships and cultures crossed in constant motion. His parents were mid-level merchants who specialized in logistics, moving cargo between Brentaal's ports and the Inner Rim. Though not nobility, they lived comfortably and instilled in Taelen a sense of duty, fairness, and wonder at the galaxy's vastness.
From an early age, Taelen showed unusual instincts. As a child, he could sense when shipments would go wrong before anyone else knew, or feel the intentions of traders before deals were made. His parents dismissed it as intuition, but visiting Jedi took notice when a Alliance relief convoy passed through. Tests confirmed his sensitivity to the Force, and he was marked for later recruitment. His parents hesitated at first, reluctant to see their son drawn away from home. They agreed that one day, the Jedi might give him the future they could not.
That future came sooner than any of them expected.
When the Empire rose, Brentaal IV became a strategic target. The planet's guilds resisted Imperial taxation, and the response was swift and brutal. Star Destroyers descended, and in a single bombardment, entire districts, including the one Taelen's family lived in, were reduced to rubble. His parents did not survive.
The Jedi Order, fractured, hunted, and scattered in the wake of the Empire's rise, was no longer the sanctuary it once was. Taelen's apprenticeship began in hiding, not in the great halls of Coruscant. He learned meditation in the quiet vastness of space, lightsaber forms aboard freighters that jumped from one safe harbor to another, and compassion in tending to refugees who, like him, had lost everything.
His grief became both a teacher and a trial. He often threw himself into training with reckless determination, as though each swing of his blade could cut through the memory of fire raining from the sky. He was reminded him that while the Empire had taken his family, they could not take the principles they had instilled in him, duty, fairness, and wonder. Those would remain his compass.
PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
At sixteen, Taelen carries the scars of war but also the spark of resilience. Among other Padawans, he sometimes appears older than his years, withdrawn yet watchful. But when he speaks of hope, of a galaxy where the strong protect the weak and his words carry weight, forged in the fire of personal loss. Taelen carries himself with a maturity beyond his years, the loss of his parents etching a quiet gravity into him. Yet beneath that compassion simmers a restless determination; he fears that grief could turn to anger if left unchecked.

STRENGTHS
- Precognition in combat – He often senses danger just before it happens, giving him a split-second advantage in fights.
- Agile duelist – His lean frame and reflexes make him quick on his feet, excelling in Ataru-style acrobatics and evasive maneuvers.
- Empathetic presence – His compassion allows him to connect with others, especially refugees or survivors of war.
- Unshakable resolve – Once Taelen sets his mind on something, he will endure hardship without complaint.
- Keen observer – He notices details others miss—small changes in tone, shifts in environment, or tells in an opponent's stance.
- Strong moral compass – His parents' lessons left him with a natural sense of fairness; he instinctively defends the downtrodden.
- Adaptability – Having trained in hiding and on the move, Taelen can adjust to unusual environments and improvise with limited resources.
WEAKNESSES
- Haunted by grief – Memories of his parents' deaths can overwhelm him, pulling him off balance when facing the Empire.
- Impulsiveness – His eagerness to act sometimes leads him to leap in before thinking through the consequences.
- Fear of failure – The trauma of losing his family drives him to push too hard, terrified of letting others down.
- Inexperience – Though skilled, due to his late start he lacks the seasoning of older Padawans and sometimes overestimates his readiness.
- Subtle anger – While usually controlled, the spark of vengeance against the Empire is always close to the surface.
