STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
[+] Focused and Determined - Having received formal training as both a priest and an assassin, Syrus has learned the value of high focus and diligence in everything he does, and as such resolves to act at maximum efficiency with all of his deeds. However, this can sometimes cause Syrus to block out anything else other than the goal at hand.
[+] Nimble and Accurate - Having been put through years of vigorous and unforgiving training regimes during his youth, Syrus works with precision and fine accuracy. Light on his feet and fluid in motion, Syrus' acrobatic style in combat is akin to that of a professional dancer.
[+] Attuned and Strong - As a Tarasin, Syrus has a natural strength in the Force, which manifests itself through his efficient physical prowess, his ability to meditate effectively and his intuitive grip on basic Force powers such as telekinesis.
[~] Devout and Faithful - Syrus is devoted wholly and without question to his religion faith, that of the spirit of Cularin and the ch'hala trees, as is customary of Tarasin culture. This deep-seated spirituality informs much of Syrus' actions throughout his life, but can also come across as a peculiar aloofness and disconnection to those who do not understand it and the social paradigms of the Tarasin, however Syrus strives to practice humility above all.
[~] Solitary and Private - Syrus has a tendency to avoid personal relationships and much prefers the company of space and his faith alone. While this serves him in many ways on a professional and spiritual level, however, this can also make Syrus difficult for others to connect with him, causing him to be very disconnected.
[-] Dishonoured and Exiled - Past experiences on his home planet of Cularin lead to Syrus' dishonouring and subsequent exile, and this has left a permanent scar on his reputation and soul. As a traveller unable to return home under fear of execution, or worse, he strives to seek resolve for the sins for which he has been accused by vowing to 'purify' the galaxy of evil via his own personal methods of justice, in the name of Cularin, hoping to eventually gain the strength to plead a worthy case to his people.
[-] Stubborn and Fanatical - Frequently, Syrus can exhibit behaviour considered to be stubborn, generally when performing tasks he has been assigned or has assigned himself. His dedication for a mission can become so important that Syrus frequently neglects other faculties and responsibilities, making him difficult to get along with. This view can be similarly regarded for his faith.
[-] Anguished and Ashamed - Syrus is conflicted over his past actions and struggles to truly understand himself. He hopes that one day he can achieve penance in the eyes of his gods and his people, and find peace within himself, but he does not believe that day shall come anytime soon.
APPEARANCE:
Syrus is short and slight of figure, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed, nimbleness and agility. When he isn't demonstrating his refined acrobatic abilities, Syrus holds himself calmly and formally, composed and confident. The gaze of his wide black eyes, typical of his race, can be off-putting to other species, but one can see years of suffering and devotion in equal measure if one were to stare into them. He is often very well dressed.
BIOGRAPHY:
Syrus Forn was born, like many of his species, on the jungle planet of Calarin, and from the moment of his birth had the spiritual and religious traditions of his people imprinted onto him. Growing up around such devout individuals very obviously had an effect on the young Tarasin during his developing years, and a personal reverence for life, Calarin and nature became very potent very rapidly, and by the time he had reached his teenage years, Syrus had resolved to take a solemn vow to serve as a formal student of the Tarasin priesthood.
Syrus excelled in his spiritual training, and through countless hours of dedicated meditation he was able to attain deep awareness of a higher level of energy, what others would call the Force. Through shear will and natural ability, Syrus achieved minor feats of genius with his practice in the Force, and before long he was adopted by the highest of the priesthood to train directly under their guidance. It was under their instruction Syrus learned to help others heal, and frequently, as a young adept, he would travel from town to town practicing such.
It was during these expeditions to other cities when a young Syrus met a mysterious woman of his species who would not tell him her name, but who compelled him beyond words. Speaking in riddles, she pertained to a secret order of elite Force-trained assassins who had been in existence for centuries and were spread far across the galaxy. Their goal was to eradicate, as they deemed it, 'evil' from the world and replace it with a stronger system of justice and power. The woman invited Syrus to join their Order and train under them as an elite assassin, boasting that they had thousands of sleeper agents infiltrated as high-ranking members of several galactic organisations.
Thus, drawn to the ever-compelling idea of fixing the galaxy's terrible evils and replacing it with a reverence he himself shared, Syrus began to partition his life between a student of life and a student of death. Under the instruction of the Order, he learned how the wield melee and ranged weaponry, the intricacies of Teräs Käsi, and how to use the Force to enhance the performance of his body, whilst under the instruction of the priesthood, he discovered the mysteries and magic of the ch'hala trees of Calarin, and how meditating on their nature empowered a student in the Force. Things were progressing and they were well, until things changed.
His first contract was a fellow Tarasin; a former member of the Order by the name of Welon who was accused of selling the Order's secrets to its many enemies and competitors. The truth of the matter, however, was not completely clear until the deed was done. Welon was not trained in the arts of death; he was, in fact, an archivist for the priesthood that the Order had arranged for Syrus to remove as part of his own final initiation into the organisation. He was either a priest or an assassin; he could not be both in the eyes of the Order.
In anguish upon discovering the truth of his target's identity, Syrus slipped and let escape knowledge of his deeds, and he surrendered himself to arrest from the priesthood. Trialled for execution, the woman of the Order, disguised as a simple girl of the town, showed herself to him in his cell the night before his execution, allowing Syrus to escape with her and complete the final step of his initiation into the Order. But in a fit of rage he lunged at her and the two battled briefly before he managed to pierce her heart with her own blade.
He knew, by this point, that it was too late for him to redeem himself in any way with either organisation, and thus resolved to leave Cularin - his one love - and resort to finding repentance in the eyes of the galaxy in one way or another. Smuggling himself off-world on an outward-bound freighter, Syrus did not look back. He would carve his own path, forge his own code of honour and justice, bring down those who wronged him and seek forgiveness from those whom he wronged... one day.
