Dev Surprise Upgrade | The Upgraded MIN Stryker | Mahporeem Imperial Remnant

Development on Factory, Codex, etc. roleplay.
CAPTAIN CHARLES
The Nexus Point | Corrox | Mahporeem

The Stryker touched down in one of Mahporeem's many repair facilities but not all was as it seemed. Command had been adamant that Charles and all 750 Crew and 100 Marines vacate the vessel to enjoy the many amenities in Corrox. They had even been generous enough to book them lavish hotels and dinners at expensive restaurants. Charles had tried to convince them that they were doing too much and that they would be fine with less but eventually decided just to go along with it.

Charles quickly discovered that there was a lot to do in Corrox. The frequent pod races being the most prominent. He was glad that there were safer ways for him and his crew to enjoy some thrills. After a few days of pod racing and feeling the guilty pleasure of having absolutely nothing to do Charles summoned his Senior Officers.

They decided upon a particularly fancy bar/night club known as The Nexus Point. Command had already given them a voucher and Charles saw no better opportunity to use it than now. The Nexus Point lived up to its reputation, as Charles opened the neon rimmed double doors he immediately noticed the scale and luxury of the place. The bar was packed, shaped like a U with the bottom facing the doors. Low lighting shining off the intricate glasses. Towards the back there was a dance floor, a live band playing for the probably half drunk dancers. Charles looked back at his Senior Officers. He had been in plenty of bars throughout his career. None of them looked quite like this.

A waitress quickly came up to them.

Charles showed her the voucher.

"Oh! You must be the special guests! Follow me to the VIP section please." She said in a friendly tone.

"VIP? Uhh you must be mistaken we are just military -" Charles stammered before he was gently cut off.

"Sir, Mahporeem Military Command called us days ago saying if you see a Navy Captain with this voucher you are to give him VIP treatment. He's a war hero."

War Hero? Charles thought to himself genuinely confused. He looked at his Senior Officers who looked equally confused.

"Madam, I'm not sure where you got that from but I assure you that I am not one of them. If anyone is it would be Captain Ronhar and his elite troops who just broke through the defense line around Fintekan. We were just doing our jobs." Responded Charles who had just managed to regain his composure a moment ago.

"No sir, look at this." Said the waitress pointing towards a large HoloNet display showing Mahporeem Coverage of the Doan Campaign. It was surrounded by a large group of military personnel and civilians. The broadcast hadn't even started yet but the crowd was glued to the screen clearly invested in whatever was about to happen.

Charles felt a twinge of guilt. He was glad his Crew was safe but the way the ground crews were talking it seemed like the repairs would take a long time. That meant of course he and his Crew would be out of the fight for longer leaving others to pick up the slack. He quickly shelved that thought.

The HoloNet Display crackled to life. At first it was the standard updates: front line movement, casualty figures, results of battles, yada yada. Charles already knew most of it from reading Intel reports.

Suddenly in the tone an announcer would use for a pod racing event the War Correspondent cut in.

"And now for our special news update brought to you by none other than the Mahporeem High Command!"

He could sense the atmosphere immediately change around him. Everyone turned their heads towards the screen, even the musicians stopped playing. It seemed like the whole room was holding their breath in anticipation.

"Today we have not one, but two inspiring stories from the front!" The correspondent started.

"As some of you may already know, just a few hours ago the glorious Captain Ronhar and his elite troops including the infamous Salvage Team Six have won a glorious victory over the corrupt and evil Doan regime by seizing the Bastion known as Base One."

"The Key to the capital's defensive line. Captain Ronhar knew that if Mahporeem's forces could take it the city's entire defensive line would be compromised paving the way to final victory!"

"According to Intelligence reports Base One boasted one of the strongest defenses on the planet, but it was no match for the skill, ingenuity and courage of Salvage Team Six and their heroic Captain Ronhar!"

The display switched to a clip of Ronhar and Salvage Team Six triumphantly raising a Mahporeem banner above the heavily fortified bastion. The crowd went wild. Cheers to Ronhar and his men were made, chants of Ronhar and Salvage Team Six filling the air. Charles smiled as well. He was glad his friend was getting the recognition he deserved.

Then the Correspondent started again.

"And now for our second story… A tale of tactical genius, overcoming overwhelming odds and sheer guts."

"This story took place a few days ago, but was not released until now due to security concerns. I bring you the Heroic Charge of the MIN Stryker!"

"The odds seemed impossible, three Prosperity Class medium cruisers vs one light cruiser. Our hero used tactical brilliance and courage. Turned the Prosperity's main advantage into a liability and sent one of them to a fiery grave in Doan's atmosphere. All this while simultaneously coordinating orbital fire support with our ground forces. Without the MIN Stryker holding the enemy off in orbit the entire Doan operation may have taken a very different course."

"Oh I almost forgot. Our mystery hero is Captain Charles of the MIN Stryker and his Crew!"

The display switched to a photograph of Charles and his Crew. He recognized it immediately, it was the one he sent to Mahporeem Command to catalog his ship. After a few seconds it switched to a clip of the battle, the chase, the torpedoes streaking through space then hitting, the Stryker charging the lead Prosperity before ducking under, reappearing as secondary explosions occurred behind them. The crowd roared.

Charles went very still. He could sense the people turning their eyes toward him slowly putting the pieces together.

Someone started clapping, then another, and another until the entire room was clapping and whistling.

Charles felt his face go red. He looked straight ahead staring at a distant point on the far wall. Next to him Voss was standing perfectly straight as usual. He was quiet for a moment. Then said just loud enough for him to hear.

"Don't let it go to your head sir."

"I wasn't planning on it." Responded Charles still a bit flustered.

The waitress smiled and gestured towards the VIP section. The room slowly returned to normal, the musicians playing, the crowd returning to their seats or the dance floor.

Charles followed her. He really needed that drink.

CAPTAIN CHARLES
Corrox | Mahporeem

Charles was lounging in his room when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” He said expecting room service or one of his Crew.

Surprisingly it was neither. Instead a sharply dressed Mahporeem Commodore stepped into the room.

Charles instantly stood and offered the man a sharp salute.

“At ease Captain.” Said the Commodore in a casual demeanor. “I’m just here to relay some news from High Command. They want you and your Crew to be a part of the Victory Celebrations in two days. There will be a parade and award ceremony. Presumably you and your crew will be a part of both.”

Charles settled back into his chair. Right he thought. He expected this.

The Remnant's victory over Doan’s regime was the talk of the planet. Charles had read the Intel reports. The war was a complete success with Mahporeem’s forces seizing the Capital, the majority of the planet and reinstalling the former king. All with relatively minimal losses. The former king had publicly pledged his allegiance to the Mahporeem and had begun policies that were favorable to both the rebelling miners and the Imperial Remnant placating the planet once more.

“Roger that sir. I will assemble my men at once.”

Two Days Later | Main Square | Corrox

The Main Square of Corrox looked more magnificent than ever, the streets cleared, banners hanging from every light pole, massive crowds already gathering. Placed where everyone could see was the reviewing stage where the planetary triumvirate and other high ranking officials and military officers would be reviewing the parading troops. Slightly to the right was the announcer’s podium where Mahporeem’s official propaganda diva Prystill Oasay would be giving commentary.

At exactly 0900 hours her enchanting voice filled the air signaling the start of the parade.

“Citizens of Mahporeem, today is not just a celebration of victory but the dawn of a new era! Just a few days ago our forces liberated the oppressed miners of Doan from an evil and corrupt regime. The new king has sworn his allegiance to us which means…”

She paused for dramatic effect.

“That this is none other than the start of a new Empire!”

The crowd roared its approval. Fireworks shot into the sky. The band began to play as the first units began marching into the square.

Out of Character Note:
Start playing this Song when you read this next section it should add to the atmosphere.

“The Reviewing Officer is Grand Admiral Victport Graras, Commander in Chief of the Mahporeem Armed Forces and member of the Triumvirate.”

She paused a moment letting the Admiral wave to the cheering crowd before continuing.

“Our first formation is the Official Color Guard of the Mahporeem Military commanded by Major Oswin of the Mahporeem Imperial Army. He carries the official banner Mahporeem in the center.

Marching perfectly in step in sharp V-formation was the seven man color guard. They were wearing their black ceremonial uniforms with red and white highlights, sunlight gleaming from their polished boots and silver buttons, the banner of Mahporeem in the middle flanked by the banners of the Navy, Army, Intelligence and Junkyard Knights.

Applause and whistles rippled through the square as Major Oswin ordered the guard to conduct an eyes right and saluted the Grand Admiral who returned it as the guard continued on to the end of the parade route.

“Next we have the command staff of the vaunted Second Corps commanded by General Yorick. This was the main unit that was deployed for the ground operations on Doan. They are followed by the 3rd Division, the 7th Division and the 9th Division.”

A well decorated General and his staff marched passed conducting an eyes right and a salute as they went. Well disciplined Battalions of Stormtroopers, Army Troopers, Armor and Artillery followed them their commanders saluting the Grand Admiral as each passed in turn. The crowd clapping and cheering as they did. The Armored units drew particular attention. The stomp of walkers and the rumble of repulsor lifts filling the air as the massive machines moved forward in formation.

“Following them is Admiral Smith, Commander of the 3rd Task Force. This naval unit was the primary force securing orbital supremacy around Doan. He is joined by the crew of the MIN Devastator. They are followed by the crews of the MIN Resolute, the MIN Indomitable, the MIN Ascendant, the MIN Stalwart, the MIN Relentless, the MIN Vanguard, the MIN Vigilant and the MIN Unyielding. She paused briefly after each name allowing the Captains to salute the Grand Admiral before marching on with their crews. The crowd thundering as they passed.

“Now for something truly special.” Said Oasay lowering her voice. “I bring you the Junk Yard Knights!”

A group of hooded figures walked past, lightsabers flashing. Some even performed a few moves much to the crowd’s delight.

After the Knights moved on silence fell over the square. Oasay used the moment well drumming up the anticipation just enough before continuing.

“You all have been waiting for this moment. The legend who took a heavily fortified bastion with just a small team. The man who led us to victory on Doan.” Her voice rising to maximum power.

“I give you Captain Ronhar!!!”

The crowd erupted.

The large figure of the Captain was easily recognizable even to the untrained eye as he and the elite troops of Salvage Team Six marched past in perfect unison. The crowd chanting his name as they did. When Ronhar reached the podium he stopped, conducted a crisp right face and saluted the Grand Admiral who promptly returned it smiling as he did. The crowd went ballistic with approval as more fireworks shot into the sky.

After a few moments passed, Ronhar turned back forward and marched on to the end of the route with the rest of Salvage Team Six.

“But Captain Ronhar was not the only decisive figure in this campaign. A newcomer but already delivering victories. I give you Captain Charles and the Crew of the MIN Stryker!”

Charles entered the square with quiet confidence, eyes fixed directly forward. It was his first victory parade, the spectacle was almost overwhelming, the roar of the crowd, the chants, the fireworks, it was almost like going into battle he thought laughing internally.

His Crew marched with discipline behind him all 750 plus 100 Marines in perfect formation, their boots hitting the ground in unison with satisfying thuds.

He reached the podium.

“Crew Eyes Right!” He ordered, his officers relaying the order down the formation.

Charles snapped his head 45 degrees to the right, then brought up his hand in a sharp salute. The Grand Admiral returned it with a look of respect. He brought his eyes forward again.

“Ready Front!” His officers once again relaying the command the formation rippling as each section returned their heads back forward.

After marching for a while longer, they reached the end of the parade route. Waiting for them there was the Commodore and a few human-like droids. One of them approached Charles.

“Thank you for your participation in this parade. The Award Ceremony will take place at the Corrox Repair Yards at 1900, please be present fifteen minutes early with your Officers.” Said the droid in a chirpy electronic voice.

“What about the enlisted? They earned this too.” Charles asked offended.

“The event has limited space Captain.” Responded the droid matter of factly.

Charles sighed disappointed. Can’t do much about that he thought glumly.

“Alright, I’ll be there.” Responded Charles before rushing off to inform his Crew.

1900 Hours | Corrox Repair Yards

The atmosphere was markedly different from the parade. There were no crowds just the quiet chatter of military personnel as they waited for the ceremony to begin. The ceremony was taking place on a temporary platform in front of one of the repair bays. It was occupied by a ship but Charles couldn't tell what kind due to it being covered by a red drape. He didn't pay much mind, someone is getting lucky today he thought to himself.

The Grand Admiral and High Command were already there sitting in the front row. On the dot, the Admiral rose and stepped onto the podium. The idle chatter instantly disappeared, all attention being refocused onto the podium.

“Thank you for your presence ladies and gentlemen. I trust you enjoyed the parade?” Started the Grand Admiral.

Murmurs of affirmatives rippled through the gathered officers.

“Good.” Said the Admiral after a few moments passed. “We will now begin the ceremony.”

“General Yorick, front and center.”

“Admiral Smith, front and center.”

And so it went. Charles’s attention slipped away. He had been to award ceremonies before and wasn’t exactly a fan. His mind flashed back to the Academy. Hours of standing at parade rest came to mind. The announcer monotonously listing off awards and their descriptions.

Then the flash of a darker thought. And some officers don’t deserve them he thought thinking back to Harrun IV and Captain Ostell. He remembered that moment too well, Banks’s eyes going dark, blood pooling around them, desperately trying to save his mentor from his inevitable end. His blood boiled at the thought. He remembered having to sit through that joke of a ceremony. Pomp and circumstance for a man that deserved neither.

The opposite is true for the Mahporeem Officers Charles reminded himself trying to calm himself down.

Just as he was bringing himself back to reality.

“Captain Charles, Charles front and center.”

Charles slowly stood from his chair. He shook off the lingering thoughts as he marched up to the podium.

“We have a few awards for you today Captain. Some you may like more than others.”

What do you mean like more than others Charles thought slightly amused. They are just ribbons or medals. Maybe a promotion if you are lucky.

“First I would like to present to you the Order of Courage.” Started the Grand Admiral as he pinned a maroon medal silver knights helmet onto his uniform.

“Thank you sir.” Said Charles. He was genuinely grateful. But he was also curious because the Grand Admiral wasn't reaching for another medal from his staff instead he was heading back to the podium. A promotion maybe? No that was unlikely Charles had only been with the remnant for a couple months, so what could it be?

“Mahporeem dosen’t award exceptional skill and courage with just medals.” Said the Grand Admiral to Charles but also to the gathered officers. “After personal recommendation from Captain Ronhar, I thoroughly reviewed the Stryker’s combat footage along with my command staff. Our conclusion? You are deserving and requiring of these awards.”

“If you may Commodore.”

With a dramatic flourish the red drape was pulled off revealing a thoroughly modernized Arquitens Class underneath. Charles slowly put the dots together.

“This is…” He started carefully still unsure if he was right.

“Precisely Captain. The newly upgraded MIN Stryker.” Said the Grand Admiral with a hint of triumph in his voice.

Charles stole a glace at the audience. His Officers were standing clearly in shock, shock that quickly turned to awe. He looked back at the Grand Admiral.

“That’s not all Captain. we are giving you the authorization to acquire ships and crews for a personal squadron. If you would care to you are free to announce the name now.” he continued gesturing to the podium.

Charles stood still for a long moment. He thought of Banks, he thought of his Crew, the Academy, his childhood of studying Thrawn.

You would have loved her Banks thought Charles taking a look back at the Stryker.

Then he stepped up to the podium.

“Very well, I announce to you and everyone gathered here the creation of the First Scouting Squadron.”
