Stygian Robes

Intent: To create a set of robes for Sumiko Tanaka, her allies and clients. These robes provide protection, while allowing her to retain her dexterity and movement.
Development Thread: The Object of Power is Power
Manufacturer: Eidolon Supplies & Transport
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Sumiko Tanaka, Eidolon Supplies & Transport, Closed Market.
Modularity: No.
Production: Semi-Unique. Sumiko must hand-craft each set, and it is a long process. It also requires blood sacrifices.
Material: Standard robe materiels, enhanced by alchemy.
Classification: Easy movement lightsabre and melee resistant armour.
Weight: 3kg.
Quality: Overall 5. This assumes some form of padded tunic is worn below the robes and this is included in the above weight.

Special Features:
  • Dark Side imbued
  • Extremely resistant to slashing and piercing damage.
  • Resistant to lightsabre and ballistic damage.
  • Extremely resistant to fire and heat.
  • Visible Dark Side aura
  • Minor resistance to cold
  • Protection against Light Side energy.
  • No resistance to crushing damage.

Strengths:
  • Darkness abounds: The robes have a potent dark aura and provide a minor boost to strengthen the wearer's connection to the Dark Side. This goes hand in hand with an ehanced ability to resist Light Side energies, though in the end the wearer must still rely on their own strength and will not suddenly be able to demonstrate feats of apocalyptic power. It also does not protect the wearer against Force Light.
  • Defence: The robes are very lightweight, but also resistant to lightsabres and ballistic damage. Very good resistance against slashing and piercing damage. Moreover, they provide protection against the elements, especially fire.

Weaknesses:
  • Darkness abounds: The strong dark aura is also a downside because it is very difficult for the wearer to mask their presence or their alignment while wearing these robes. This makes stealth rather difficult. Using Force stealth techniques to cover both oneself and the robes is not worth the effort.
  • Not a tank: The robes provide no protection against kinetic impact. A simple bullet may not penetrate the robes outright, but it can still hurt the squishy body inside it. No resistance against crushing damage in general. All in all, this still a robe, not a suit of armour. Hands, face and feet have no protection at all. The lightsabre resistance is limited, and slightly greater than that provided by armourweave. When it comes to blasterfire, the resistance is about average. In other words, the robe would resist the plasma, but the heat would still burn the wearer.

Description:

The dark robes represent Sumiko's first foray into the ancient art of alchemy. Having spent a long time studying the sorcerous arts of the Sith, she finally decided to put her knowledge to good use. After all, everyone starts somewhere. Although she is probably too vain to admit it, she was to a degree inspired by the Alkahest robes designed by the Jedi Master [member="Phylis Alince"].

Like her, Sumiko realised that cloth could just as easily be imbued as metal and crystals. Naturally her idea of crafting alchemised clothing had to be a lot darker due to the Atrisian being an amoral Sith. So Sumiko joined forces with her apprentice, a Dark Eldorai named Illyria, to craft robes of darkness. In order to imbue the robes, the pair decided to feed the essence of the Dark Side into the cloth to enchant it, right down to the fibres.

The materiel would not be as strong as metal, where the alchemical process could make the molecular bonds unbreakable, as seen with say Sith swords. However, it would suffice for their purpose and significantly increase the robes' resistance to lightsabres and ballistics, while still allowing the wearer to maintain mobility. Blood was crucial for the ritual, it was a good reagent and dark power required sacrifice. Fortunately, moral issues were not a problem for the two ladies, so they sacrificed a captive.

The prisoner was sedated, her throat was slit and Sumiko used Sith magic to enchant, twist and corrupt the blood. While the captive's corpse was recycled in an environmentally friendly way by being fed to Sumiko's pet Atrisian tiger, the dark liquid was soaked into the robes. Both dark adepts joined their powers to bind the Force through the blood into the fibres of the robes. Once this was done, they were forever infused with the power of the Dark Side. Naturally they still had to be washed, lest the blood decompose and begin to smell!

All in all, the process created a nice set of alchemised robes. On first sight, they're fairly standard: Traditional black cloak with a hood, along with the under robes, pants and tunic. The sort of thing that you'd expect at a Sith or Dark Jedi convention. This also includes a regular padded vest beneath the under robes. It is however noticeably its own thing and a special case. However, once one takes a closer look one realises that they have been tainted by dark sorcery.

Due to the alchemical process, the simple cloth possesses enhanced durability, making the robes more resistant than their conventional counterpart. This especially applies to slashing and piercing weapons. Each fibre of the cloth is incredibly tough, roughly the equivalent to strands of durasteel wire. Stabbing and cutting can be resistant with ease. The strands can still be cut, this takes a lot of effort and generally more than regular blades. The alchemical imbuement gives the robes the ability to resist lightsabre strikes. However, a lightsabre will penetrate and harm the wearer if pressed against the cloth for several seconds. All in all, the protection is slightly greater than that provided by armourweave.

Anyone who touches them will feel a slight chill, for the materiel is coolling as opposed to warming. The robes have the ability to regulate the wearer's body temperature to a degree in hot weather, while also providing resistance to pyrokinesis and other elemental fire attacks. This can make them useful in combat against Shapers and Angelii, assuming you're dealing with pyromancers!

Of course, there's a limit to the protection. Wearers are advised not to take a plunge into a lava river on Mustafar or go for a stroll on Gehenna's surface during day time. The robes are very resistant to fire and not flammable. However, the heat and smoke generated by fire can still cause damage to the wearer. The same applies to concentrated heat, such as that caused by a thermic lance like blast. Placing them under fire for a prolonged period will cause them to burn and turn to ash. They also make it easier to resist the cold, though this is a minor bonus.

The robes generate a potent dark aura that boosts the wearer's connection, deepening their connection to the Dark Side and making it easier to call upon its powers. The robes provide a protection against general Light Side Energy due to their Dark Side imbuement. However, it is still up to the wearer to protect themselves. Moreover, this resistance does not apply to Force Light in any shape or form.

The robes possess an obvious dark aura, which makes it ill-advised to use them during infiltration missions. The aura can be cleansed through the efforts of a powerful Light Side Master. In this case, they turn into conventional black robes without any special qualities, though it takes effort. As mentioned above, the imbuement process requires blood sacrifice and so an echo of the poor soul who was murdered lingers on.

Not only do the robes always look slightly damp and reddish tinged, they will seek to corrupt the wearer. At best a neutral or Light Side adept will find the robes deeply uncomfortable, at worst they feel the corrupting pull of the Dark Side that seeks to sway them from their path. For every time they try to draw upon the power of the robes, they endorse a ghastly, twisted art. One may also hear disembodied whispers, an echo of the poor sacrificial lamb.

The robes feel almost the same as a regular set, and even with a padded tunic the weight difference is not noticeable. This allows the wearer to move and act freely without the encumbrance of armour. This means that the robes are not rigid. They can definitely protect against slashing attacks, but the same does not apply to kinetic impact. For example, a regular slug round would be stopped by the robes. But just because the bullet does not penetrate, does not mean its kinetic energy cannot damage the squishy body inside the robe by causing severe bruising and trauma, assuming it hits the body.

Needless to say this applies even more in the case of high-calibre bullets or projectiles fired from mass driver weapons or, indeed, any form of physical impact, such as from a hammer or a telekinetic wave. Even with a padded tunic, the robes cannot protect the wearer against that. Moreover, they leave the wearer's feet, hands and face unprotected.

All in all, the robes are ideal for Dark Adepts who either dislike armour or find themselves in situations where wearing it would be impractical but they still desire protection beyond what the Force provides them. The outfits grant flexibility combined with solid protection against a variety of attacks. They also provide good resistance against the elements.

Primary Source: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/87026-alkahest-robes/ This submission was inspired by the Alkahest Robes ICly and OOCly and can be considered a dark side counterpart. Their creator, [member="Phylis Alince"], worked on this sub with me and gave me permission to use them as inspiration.

[member="Sumiko Tanaka"] - Sorry for the slight delay, but I had to scour sources to get a good roadmap going forward. Unfortunately, everything checks out but one effect, and that one I couldn't find any good reduction or equivalent for. The resistance to Force Light, in any form, of a Dark Sided/Sith Alchemy object is not going to be able to be passed. I am totally fine with a general resistance to Light Sided energies excepting Force Light, but nothing anywhere in Canon supports a resistance to Force Light, and the entirety of Force Light is made to sever Dark Siders from the Force, Dispel Dark Side Spirits, and be supremely effective at undoing Sith Alchemy. So that feature cannot be retained with any semblance of balance to the submission also being retained at the same time.

TL;DR - Your choices are
  • Please find another ability (or more, pending how you rework things) and replace the resistance to Force Light. I am very open to any alternatives you have.
  • Feel free to request a Second Chance
