OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Steadfast
  • Classification: Port and Salvage Town
  • Location: Jakku
  • Affiliation: N/A
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: Steadfast's residents consist of peoples from all sorts of species. Out in the Western Reachers along the Starbird Trade Spine, the planet's ancient salvage has garnered a new generation of scavers.
  • Wealth: Poor
    • Jakku is a world almost as desolate, if not more so, than Tattoine. The main difference is the salvage. Even with that though, until recent years there hadn't been a hyperlane that was able to bring the lucrative salvage business of Jakku to the rest of the Galaxy. While the overall income has risen dramatically over the last half-decade or so, the wage disparity between Jakku and the rest of the Galaxy, especially other Inner Rim planets, was incredibly high.
  • Stability: Low
    • Watch your pockets in Steadfast and don't be walking alone at night.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Steadfast is one of the neutral zones between scaver gangs and water gangs on the wastes. Because it is the only space port for thousands of kilometers the gangs and cabals leave the city be control-wise. Their thugs however are common in and around the city. The only rule of law is that of the blaster here.
  • Description: Steadfast is a large city-settlement built on the surface the guts of an ancient Imperial-I Ster Destroyer from the time of the Ancient Empire. Crashed during a great battle he vessel was only uncovered from its sandy burial about one hundred years ago. Over time the well-preserved star destroyer became the home of dozens, then hundreds, and now thousands of Jakku residents. The city got its name from the battle computer logs which identified the vessel as the ISD Steadfast. Seeing the opportunity for growth the first settlers of Steadfast utilized its buried walkers, hangars, and power generator to create a prosperous town. They fought off many a bandit and scavenger raid with the cobbled together starfighters they were able to make from the TIEs and with the defensive towers they made from old AT-ATs. Now in the modern age it is one of the largest scavenging and trading hubs on the planet with hopes of expansion now that Jakku is along the Starbird Trade Spine.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Steadfast had several districts and places that were famous around town. These included:

The Barracks: A district inside the ship. It was considered to be luxury housing as it was ventilated and offered mild protection from the sun and heat. While running water even here was difficult to come by some that lived here DID have that luxury. Most of the old Steadfast settler families lived here and the halls were patrolled by their cobbled together security droids.

The Blocks: The Blocks, short for Engine Blocks, were the collection of neighborhoods that were ground level and built into the massive engines of the old ImpStar. The dommed structures were reminiscent of those found on Tattooine.

Hangar 42: A huge dusty cantina that caters to flight sim enthusiasts on the planet. Its a seedy joint with many of the squadron ready rooms converted into either private "entertainment" zones or private rooms owned by local water and scaver gangs and local crime bosses. Its built in the partially submerged hangar, specifically TIE Deck 42.

Giant's Way: The main shopping arcade built into the port side of the main superstructure. Named Giant's Way due to the defensive turret emplacements made from derelict AT-ATs that line the arcade. Tapestries are strung between the legs to give the arcade some semblance of shade for shoppers. It is one of the only places on the planet where you can get basic necessities and off-world curiosities. Salvage is also traded here with many of them coming together to form the Steadfast Salvage Guild.

Steadfast Salvage Guild: Built into the base of the bridge tower at the end of Giant's Way, the Steadfast Salvage Guild was a huge salvage operation run by three of the Old Families of Steadfast. They essentially lead the local market and maintain safety standards when salvaging within the Steadfast herself. They are generally seen as fair but their "taxes" can often drive poorer peoples to look to local Scaver Gangs or worse solo work which can be dangerous.

Port's Port: The minor spaceport built into the port-side hangar right next door to Hangar 42. They tax hard because credits mean the support of the local community. But because they weren't a part of any government they allowed the trade of many illegal substances, making the port a hotbed for cheap buying.

SECURITY: Low
The security of Steadfast is, for Jakku standards, TOP NOTCH. Laser cannons all over, armed guards, the occasional security droid (albeit over 800 years old) etc, they are a fortress to the people of the desert. Realistically though, they are less defended than an Old Republic Outer Rim outpost meant for watching over Gizka.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Steadfast crashed in the battle of Jakku, defeated by a swarm of New Republic fighters and the awesome might of their new battlecruiser-sized behemoths, the Starhawks. Or so the legends say. Nobody really knows what happened to create the historical ship graveyard that is Jakku. What people do know is that even now, 800 years after the battle of Yavin and Jakku, that the planet is a secret treasure trove. Unearthed after centuries of sandstorms, the Steadfast revealed itself to the people of Jakku. Over about a century or so the people of Jakku sought to create something different in a rare moment of collectivism. The end result was one of the few settlements large enough to be called a town or small city on the entire planet of Jakku.

The original scavenger clans that claimed the destroyer became recognized as the Old Families and ruled the city, seeing to its defense, continued excavation, exploration, and salvaging. Three of these families would eventually take the endeavor of scavenging as their business creating the Steadfast Salvage Guild, offering honest prices for honest work salvaging, offering resources, aid, and a sense of community. Their costs were seen as too high for some though and rogue elements began working with outside forces to create scavers, low-life criminals that steal and salvage to the danger of everyone around them if it means a quick bite to eat. Water Gangs were also envious of the Steadfast's still functioning secondary power sources that provided a means of collecting and purifying water. The two groups of gangs eventually combined to assault Steadfast but careful planning and the modification of dozens of AT-ATs and AT-STs as well as the main battery of the star destroyer saw to it that the city was defended against the continued raids.

With the creation of the Starbird Trade Spine, the Galactic Alliance unwittingly caused the Steadfast to boom. Not since the first settlers had the Steadfast seen such growth and soon several more districts outside of the original few began springing up. A new era of salvage began as these starstruck salvagers flocked to Steadfast and began working on the vessel or shooting out on their own to find both new salvage in the form of First Order gear left behind, or ancient relics from a bygone era. There were even rumors of a secret Jedi encalve nearby.
