Discussion Standard Starship Weaponry

Grand Admiral, First Order Central Command
In an attempt to get active with writing again i've been working on a fleeting guide of sorts. It's gonna be a disaster, but that's not important.

The question here is what to do people assume as 'standard' starship weaponry, and what ranges do they assume they are effective at.

For sanity's sake, use the following 'range bands' rather than any hard numbers.

Close
Short
Medium/Normal (standard Turbolaser range)
Long
Extreme

I've got the following in my head but am curious to see what other people are working with as assumptions.

Laser Cannons
Turbolasers
Ion Cannons
Railguns/Mass Drivers
Concussion Missiles
Proton Torpedoes
Assault (Warheads)

Oh boy. As Effective =/= Maximum, my answers are likely gunna shift over time, but the following is how I generally see things when it comes to spatial weaponry:

"Standard" Laser Cannons:
- Close / Short Range Band(s.)
"Standard" Turbolasers / Ion Cannons:
- Close / Short / Medium Range Band(s.)
"Standard" Mass-Drivers - Includes Railguns, etc:
- Close / Short / Medium / Long Range Band(s.) - Something something physics, something something newton's the deadliest SoB in space.
Warheads - Includes Proton Torps, Missiles, etc:
- Close / Short / Medium / Long Range Band(s.) - To me, it all depends on the method of propulsion, which leads back to the point raised in the field above.

I'd wager that you could even put extreme on the last two, but then that's all dependent on the weapon itself and a myriad of factors.

Go with 'standard' canon-esque Concussion missiles and the like. I'll grant there's a lot of leeway with self-guided ordnance but I'm trying to avoid the more niche stuff that people like my dumb ass keep making.

Even then, that won't really change the range bands of my assumptions.

Most of what Chaos considers as "standard" these days is either marginal improvements over what Canon and Legend(s) have already introduced or hyperspecialized to the point where they don't really fit into generalized assumptions. Ala turbolaser that fires slightly faster and hits harder vs some exotic beam weaponry.

So, I tend to throw everything into the same pot for convenience's sake, lol.

    • Point Defense Laser (Standard Plasma)
    • Dovin Basal (Yuuzhan Vong alternative for this engagement zone in capital ships)
    • Flak Cannons (Standard Physical analogue)
    • Cluster Bombs
  • Short Range
    • Laser Cannons (Standard Plasma)
    • [Small] Yaret-Kor (Standard Yuuzhan Vong plasma analogue)
    • Ion Cannons (Standard size) (See Medium range for explanation on designation)
    • Light Turbolaser (Potentially interchangeable with laser cannons, basically flavor text)
    • Proton Bombs
    • Magma Spitters (Technically ground-favored weaponry, but smaller variation of rock spitters/magma missiles)
    • Grutchin (A likely better alternative to Magma Spitters in true fleeting engagements at shorter ranges, similar to vulture drones but distinctly a living, mindless, guideless weapon)
  • Medium Range
    • Heavy Laser Cannons / Standard Turbolaser Cannons (Standard Plasma)
    • Heavy Ion Cannons (potentially standard Ion cannons depending on the source material, legends & canon tend to indicate a lack of accuracy in ion cannons beyond short range but there are some instances where this isn't strictly true)
    • Concussion Missiles
    • Proton Torpedo
    • [Standard Sized] Rock Spitters/Magma Missiles (Yuuzhan Vong Guided Missiles)
    • [Standard Sized / Capital Ship] Yaret-Kor (Yuuzhan Vong plasma analogue)
    • Grutchinya (Basically just bigger Grutchins meant for capital ship engagements, better suited for the normal medium engagement range)
    • Mass Drivers / Railguns (Standard Physical Projectiles)
  • Long Range
    • Long Range Turbolasers (Standard Plasma)
    • Long Range Ion Cannons
    • Assault Concussion Missiles (Standard Ordnance)
    • Heavy (?) Mass Drivers / Railguns (Standard Physical projectile)
    • [Large] Yaret-Kor (Yuuzhan Vong plasma analogue)
    • [Large] Rock Spitters/Magma Missiles (Yuuzhan Vong guided missiles)
    • Plasma Cannons (Yuuzhan Vong Turbolaser analogue) (The Yuuzhan Vong kind which for some reason doesn't have its own wookiee page, it's instead discussed in the Magma Missile article)
    • Singularity Ordnance (much larger version of a singularity mine, which is typically a grenade analogue, meant for planetary bombardment)
  • Extreme Range
    • Proton Beam Cannon (Standard Plasma)
    • Hypervelocity Cannon (Standard Physical Projectile)

Edit: This was a trolling post because you asserted to me in the other thread that there were no barriers to entry and then posted this monstrous list to make fleeting easier to join. I apologise for that and will bow out of the discussions on the matter I think.
