Primary Source: MH EM Field Projector,

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
Manufacturer: MandalArms
Model: Solar Protection Field 9001
Affiliation: Closed Market / Clans of Mandalore
Production: Limited
Modularity: Limited
Material: Hibridium, Assorted Metals, Plastics, Exc

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Classification: Starship Component

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Functions like a Cloaking Field, but projects a lens a short distance away from a ship instead of projecting an oblong field around a ship
  • Projects a light-bending lens that, when viewed, appears as a black void (or a blue void, if near a planet) with bright lights around the edge
  • Sensors cannot detect objects directly opposite the detecting ship and anything on the other side of this lens
  • Solar Ionization Cannon discharges (because they are light waves) cannot pass through this field and are instead scattered outward along the edges of the projected lens
  • Has no effect on other forms of weaponry
Strengths:
  • Blocks Solar Ionization Cannons from passing through a conical field projected along one of the ship's major arcs
Weaknesses:
  • Blocks most sensors from detecting objects fully obstructed by the light-bending lens this device creates
  • Obvious visual distortion makes this field pointless as a form of stealth technology in the overwhelming majority of situations
  • Has no effect on other types of weapons (projectile, plasma, particle, blaster, exc)
DESCRIPTION

As Solar Ionization Weapons capable of bypassing traditional starship shields have become increasingly popular in rival navies throughout the galaxy, the brilliant scientists of Manda'yaim have busied themselves with the challenging task of finding suitable technologies to counter these once rare weapons. While many of these scientists resorted to the very Mandalorian practice of developing advanced armor plating options for their warships, spectral whispers guided some of these scientists towards re-purposing existing stealth field technology instead.

For centuries, Hibridium has most often been utilized as a cheaper alternative to the much rarer Stygium Crystals in the manufacturing of starship cloaking technology. However, even in this niche market, Hibridium has long been considered functionally irrelevant due to the particular drawbacks of the material and the cloaking fields it creates. Though capable of creating a field around a starship that will bend light around the craft, just like Stygium Crystal cloaking fields, and will similarly cause the ship in question to appear invisible, Hibridium based cloaking fields come with the significant drawback of blocking the craft within the field from visually perceiving past the field, or even projecting common sensors through said field to perceive their surroundings.

In spite of these weaknesses, the abundance of Hibridium in comparison to Stygium made it the ideal material for this project. While both fields, when utilized as a stealth cloak, proved capable of bending even weaponized light waves around the host ship, the double-blind nature of Hibridium demanded a less traditional approach to the problem. After much trial and error, another spectral whisper guided these scientists to merge existing Hibridium Cloaking technology with the EM Field Projector technology still in use upon many Alor-class Dreadnoughts, originally designed by Mandal Hypernautics so many years ago. And through the partnership of these two technologies, Mandalorian Scientists found themselves able to project a Hibridium Field remotely. After a few iterations of this technology, scientists eventually settled on a lens-shaped field projection to create the most ideal Solar Protection Field for their navy to utilize in battle.

Please Provide an Image Source. We all know its from the Chapelle Show, but you still have to source it.

Sounds like this is a cone or a disc. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with a sensor blinding-SIC blocking Cone of indeterminate length. I might could see a Disc, like raising a section of a shield type deal.

As for its Stealth abilities, I'd prefer them toned down personally. Perhaps gutting it down to something like "Sensors may not be able to determine size or classification of ships, but sensors can usually detect the number of vessels hidden behind the disc."

It produces ooga-booga energy in a cone, that causes the creation of a Hibridium Field in the shape of a lens.

It's just the disk that blocks sensors, and that's just so that it complies with canon effects of Hibridium.

The field is projected fairly close to the ship it would be equipped on, but is "just far enough away" that in fleet-vs-fleet actions, other ships within a fleet would be able to detect and relay information on ship hiding behind one of these fields. At close ranges, the field would only allow a ship to protect against weapons fired from a single ship at a time (unless opposing ships are in a particularly tight formation). It's also not intended to allow a single ship to protect multiple ships (unless you're wanting them lined up in single file, getting their prow shields melted by the ion drives of the ship ahead of them).

Updating the image source now.
