Duel Sparring at New Cov

Jonyna had made a habit of heading towards the New Cov Temple when she wanted to train. Coruscant was too...busy. Loud. Her sensitive ears always felt overwhelmed, and her sense of the force somehow felt....dulled. Too many people, not enough life. Everything felt artificial. But New Cov felt more like home. She could train there freely at Val's permission, and the surrounding jungle gave her quite a lot of space to roam freely, allowing for the exercise she was used to back on Cathar. Getting back to Tree Surfing was a skill she really did need to get back into the swing of, but for now, she wanted to test her new sword.

The Cathar stood at the center of the training ring, her ears flicking as she let the white noise of the jungle overtake her perception. Her stance was wide, and one hand firmly grasped the hilt of her sheathed blade. She wanted to test what she had done back on Ilum once more...

Tandi paced patiently around the outside of circle, keeping his eyes on the Cathar. Each move careful and refined. Studying Jonyna’s stance. “So any rules?” He inquired. He wanted to keep this as a friendly spar.

Tandi’s left hand hand reached up and unclasped his cloak, letting it drop to the ground to the left of Jonyna, before finishing up stopping in front of the Cathar knight. Hands clasped behind his back. His right hand grabbed his saber. Igniting a single pink blade, he preformed a Malashi Salute.

“A hit with a saber is a win.” Jonyna iterated. She figured if you can slash someone with your saber, your opponent is dead on the spot. “But don’t like…actually hit. My saber don’t exactly have a training setting.”

Mind you, she didn’t seem to have her saber out. Lucy was deep within her coat at the moment. For now, she wanted to put Liz through her paces…

Tandi smirked at the remark about a training setting on the saber. His master didn’t exactly believe in training sabers. Which meant most of his early training was done with wooden sticks, which led to broken bones being reset in a bacta bath. The upside was it led a level of control when he did train with a saber, as he had to learn to pull his hits at the last moment.

“Then we are on even ground.” Tandi said. Already formulating his plan of attack.
“Are you ready?” He asked politely.
Before waiting for an answer, he flicked his left wrist, using the force to project his discarded cloak towards the Cathar in an attempt to entangle the opposing Jedi Knight. Using the momentary distraction, Tandi would lunge forward and unleash a barrage of quick thrusts to push Jonyna off balance.

The coat was a dirty move. She hadn't expected something like that from another knight of the order, and yet...it impressed her. In battle, there was no room for pageantry. No room for holding back or leaving honor to get you killed.

That of course didn't stop her from cutting the coat in half with a quick draw from her katana. She'd stitch it back later. As she drew, her blade also caught the edge of Tandi Preegasa Tandi Preegasa 's blade, causing Jonyna to have to take a step back, using her offhand to force push Tandi back, giving her some space.

This was going to be tricky. He wasn't some egotistical inquisitor who relied on overwhelming force to keep control on his side, only to fall to a wiser and more patient opponent. He was a trained jedi. Someone who had just as many abilities as she did, and an understanding of the force that in theory matched hers.

Tandi felt the push coming. Shifting his stance just as it hit. He used the momentum to backflip away from Jonyna Si Jonyna Si . He would give her space. She mentioned a saber, yet wielded a blade. The last thing Tandi wanted was to be blindsided by a weapon not yet in play. Besides, he had left his mark. Maybe he didn’t physically hit the Cathar, but he did catch her off guard. He needed to keep her second guessing herself.

A duel amongst force users was nearly half mind games, and Tandi was playing to win.

Jonyna took a moment, smirking as she sheathed her blade once more. Her tail loosed from inside her coat, as if presenting it to her opponent. She had nothing to hide. Instead, she pulled out her saber, igniting it in a ruby glow as it seemed to burst with flame, as if it was a burning stick of plasma. She took her classic form. Form I. He wanted to play mind games? Well then, lets play...

Tandi assumed the opening stance of Form IV. Taking a moment to let the force flow through him. “So, you do have a saber?” He remarked as he studied the Cathar’s stance. Form I. Dependable. Not a duelist’s form, but reliable and versatile.

"I never said I didn't." Jonyna said with a playful tone. "Your saber looks like one the Inquisitors used to use. Does it do the spinny thing too?"

Jonyna started circling, waiting for Tandi Preegasa Tandi Preegasa 's next move. She already had in her head what hers was gonna be, but she still needed to know what her opponent was capable of.

Tandi took careful steps around the outside of the ring. Eyes locked with the Cathar. “You’ll have to come find out.” His tone a little more flirtatious than he probably intended. He would be lying if he said he didn’t find the Cathar attractive. Tandi had forgone emotional attachment as a Jedi, he wasn’t celibate.

He leapt forward to the left, then right. Zig zagging at incredible speed to close the distance. Instead of slashing or thrusting when close enough, Tandi would flip over Jonyna Si Jonyna Si and slash at he back.

The feint worked, Jonyna dropping a hand off her saber to grab her katana for another draw slash, only to miss as Tandi Preegasa Tandi Preegasa lept over her. Clever move. She had to quickly adjust, lifting her saber over herself to do a blind block behind her. She knew the length of his blade, and where he was slashing, so it wasn't too difficult to predict where his blade was going.

She had played her hand though. Her sword was out in the open. Damnit.

Her tail seemed to have slipped under her coat once more as she spun around, trying to face her opponent once more, attempting to bring her katana back down on him.

As the Cathar spun, so did Tandi. His fighting style truly using the acrobatic nature of Form IV to its advantage. Careful, yet speedy footwork projected the human around, so as to remain behind the Cathar. He would use his momentum to hook his left leg out in a leg sweep in an attempt to trip the other Jedi Knight. At the same time he deactivated his lightsaber. With a Cortosis blade being swung around, it was better to keep it deactivated to prevent it shifting out when he needed it most. Holding the hilt of his saber in both hands behind his back, he would utilise pure agility for his defence.

The trip attempt certainly worked, though kicking solid leg muscle probably wasn't the easiest thing to do. Jonyna fell forward, only for her tail to whip out with...another saber hilt? It was silent, and left no visible blade, and yet the heat coming off it was clear. The tail whipped out, slashing her opponent as Jonyna tried to roll out of her fumble.

With the saber coming out, he wasn’t expecting it. He leaned back, but not fast or far enough. Tandi found himself leaning back, with his torso parallel to the ground, held aloft by the force, with an invisible saber inches from him. He held his empty hands up beside him. “Alright,” A flick of Tandi’s wrist and Jonyna Si Jonyna Si would feel a gentle nudge behind her as the emitter of Tandi’s saber bumped into her. He had released his grip on it and held her focus to sneak it around. “We’ll call it a draw.” He said with a chuckle as he dropped on the ground. Laying on his back, he looked up at the Cathar. It was a dirty trick to telekinetically control the saber, but Tandi wasn’t above using dirty tricks. Even if it wasn’t enough to come out on top.
