EMP/Ion - RTSCE's keep the STDT online. If blasted by significant EMP or Ion interference, the tracker won't work temporarily.
Shared Well - If a cloaked vessel was attached to an Asteroid, the gravity wells of the respective objects would become mostly shared. This will confuse the average operator and make discerning the existence or position of a cloaked vessel difficult.
DESCRIPTION
Commonly baed within the Sensor-Suite within the Bridge of Valiance-Class Vessels, the Space-Time Discrepancy Tracker uses a network of Particle-Projectors to shoot hundreds of streams of subatomic particles in a wide range.
These particles generate a roadmap of the Space-Time Grid which is then projected onto the Tracker Display. This Grid looks much like the commonly seen Space-Time representation but shows mass and density fluctuations in real time. These fluctuations, or pits in the grid are due to a portion of the particles being dragged toward objects or density-discrepancies in Space-Time.
Identifying Cloaked Vessels
Cloaked Vessels are doing nothing more than scattering reflected photons in such a way that it mirrors their surroundings, blending them with their environment perfectly. But this has no effect on the ships mass. As the particle streams pass through or near the invisible ship, its respective gravity well pulls the particles toward it. The Grid display on the tracker thus shows this well in real time. Although objects such as asteroids and passing ships can confuse the operator as the well becomes shared or indiscernible, though the experienced operator should be able to separate these influences.
The simplest way a cloaked vessel is identified is; in an open vacuum with only micro-discrepancies, a significant Well that is also Mobile can be easily identified as a Vessel.
Functioning very similar to a Crystal Gravifield Trap, the SDTD bypasses the Blocking-Object problem in which a vessel's gravity well can be hidden behind a greater well such as a planet. This is due to the wide-field nature of the projected particles. The Particle streams will paint the Blocking-Object's well, but several other streams will slingshot around this Mass and interact with the true-object behind the blocker, painting both Wells in parallel.
TL;DR
A Gravifield Trap that uses Particles. These particles make a map of Space-Time and display the Cloaked Vessel's respective Gravity Well due to monitored particle trajectory and orbital mechanics. Tracker can confuse operator due to shared wells but bypasses CGT weakness of Blocker-Well due to orbital slingshot and other maneuvers.
