OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To place the second block.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Sou Emergency Medical Center (SEMC)
  • Classification: Medical Clinic with ER capabilities
  • Location: Coruscant, lower levels, Agua District
  • Affiliation: The Wings of Coruscant, a small, non-profit aid organization who specialize in aid to Undercity dwellers.
  • Accessibility: Lower Levels- Easy, public access for the ER and sliding scale walk-in clinic.
Upper Levels- Difficult, key card, retinal scan and rotating voice pass code prevents those without authorization from casual exploration.
  • Security: Lower levels - Alarm system and cameras for the clinic and ER. Small, private security force, mostly in place to handle unstable patients, armed only with stun weapons.
Upper levels - Silent alarm and cameras in hallways and all points of entry and exit. A single failed attempt to access through official channels or to access the hardware will trigger the silent alarm. Knock out gas and automated stun blasters can be overridden with a special code.
  • Description: SEMC is a low cost, sliding scale clinic for the Agua District of Corsucant. The building itself is in poor repair, but when every credit goes to helping those who cannot afford basic preventative care and emergency services, well, want of a few coats of paint can be forgiven. At the far end of Union Street, it occupies a large, corner lot, necessary for the volume of patients it sees daily. With local crime in the Agua district at an all time low, SEMC is considered neutral ground for rival syndicates and gangs from other districts. Why make trouble for a place that will patch up blaster bolts without question at three in the morning, after all?

The upper levels technically fall above the Aqua District, though the building is connected. The upper levels house a state of the art laboratory that the doctors and nurses of the SEMC are unaware of. Only the Clinic's Chief of Staff, Doctor Sasha Caleb, knows of it's existence. And she's not talking.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Emergency Room: Stocked with second hand equipment purchased dearly and staffed by a small number of paid Doctors and nurses, supplemented by volunteers on their days off from larger (for profit) hospitals, Emergency Services are available at all hours, every day of the week. It takes up the lion's share of the first level between triage, beds separated by curtains when possible, and Emergency Surgery. While there are some rooms available for recovery, the ER is not equipped to handle long term care. Wings of Coruscant will work to find space at other hospitals and funding for those who have need of recovery support beyond 48 hours, but cannot keep them in house.
  • Low Cost Clinic: Located on the second floor. Operating on a sliding scale based on income and need, the Clinic operates on a walk-in basis only. Catering to a wide range of sentient physiologies, all are welcome to come during business hours (8am to 8pm) for preventative care, minor illnesses, OB support during pregnancy and other non-emergency services. Cramp sitting room frequently has a line of patients out the door, but with the funds and staff available, there are days when not everyone waiting can be seen. Those with emergencies are sent to the ER and those without are offered a space at the front of the line the following day- provided they show up before a certain time. In the Undercity of Coruscant, not much more can be offered.
  • Administrative Offices: There is little overhead available for positions that do not treat patients. But certain jobs are necessary to keep the clinic running. The third floor contains office and storage space, as well as access to upper levels of the building via Dr. Caleb's office.
  • Irajah's Laboratory: Technically, Wings of Corsucant leases the upper levels of the building to a private party. That money supports their operations in the clinic below. Of course, they could not have purchased the building with the generosity of that "anonymous donor". Rented through a dummy corporation, Irajah's labs occupy the upper levels of the building. State of the art, with custom equipment ordered for specific intent by Doctor Irajah Ven, the sleek lines and open spaces clash deeply with the hard edges and cramped quarters of the clinic below. With space a premium on Coruscant, four levels of Laboratory space borders on profligate. The labs have their own ventilation system and are kept under negative pressure- while Irajah has no intention of focusing on infection as she once had, she is all too aware after Gideon of just how necessary biological safety protocols are.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The SEMC is newly renovated from an older, no cost clinic that closed down several years ago. The old clinic had been the only medical facility catering to the poor in the Agua District of Coruscant for the last decade, but increased costs and an uptick in gang related activities and violence ultimately led it to shutter its doors. The Wings of Coruscant aid organization, with the help of funds from an anonymous donor, was able to purchase the building, and by renting out the top half, cover much of their day to day operating costs. A windfall, in times like this.

Doctor Sasha Caleb was brought in to run the clinic, boots on the ground, for the Wings of Coruscant. She had all of the credentials necessary and was happy to accept the pittance of a salary that they could offer. It seemed like a perfect match.

The fact that she had worked with Irajah Ven on Gideon, in the bowels of [member="Matsu Xiangu"]'s labs on Maena, well, that was conveniently left off of her resume.

Set up in part as a front, and in part as a funnel, the Clinic does it's good works while also supporting the less than savory works of Doctor Ven. When patients come through with certain desirable traits (chief of which being the box Next of Kin being marked N/A), their files are sent elsewhere, to be perused at leisure. Of course, Irajah is very interested when her datapad pings, and will usually put everything else aside to scan them. Occasionally she will moonlight as a volunteer, much beloved and always welcome when she is taking part in the day to day operations, unknown as the person renting the upper levels to the majority of the staff. Sometimes, she wants to choose them for herself- there's nothing quite like that.

After all.

She has very important work to do.
