Soothe Your Pain

“Another” The bartender knew what she was drinking. He also knew she wasn’t paying for it. “Thanks dear” she returned with a smirk, quickly averting her eyes to the far more interesting spectacle of the surrounding area. The uneasiness in his told that he was glad she didn’t pay more attention to him.

She and her friend had been on a bit of a pub crawl this evening, in addition to the few last ones as well. It wasn’t showing on her, thankfully. That’s youth and cosmetics for you.

This time around it was her turn to slack off in the bar while her friend worked. Saoirse intended to enjoy every moment of it. As shady and polluted of a planet as Balosar was, she sure hoped it would be able to provide her with some decent entertainment. The bar was clean, at least. Moderately.

The place was lively as usual. It was one of the more frequented spots on Balosar. But of course, being Balosar, it was hardly a high-end sort of thing. Instead it was filled with various thugs and minor criminals, and of course the occasional addict or blissfully unaware party-goer, possibly about to be pick-pocketed.

Balosar was unfiltered and raw. Just the sort of environment Saoirse thrived in.

Balosar was the type of place that Kurt had never really thought about visiting, in fact he was still somewhat unsure of what he was doing here in the first place. Most of his time as of late had been spent studying at Kalinda University, but with summer break hitting and Jamie being busy he had thought he'd use some of his extra earnings from the Meyer Drive to float here and to a bit, see parts of the galaxy without the stress of a delivery hanging over his head.

Of course how he'd ended up here he didn't exactly know.

The transport he'd taken last had simply made a pit-stop here, and oddly enough he'd felt somewhat drawn to the polluted and grimy world. Perhaps it was Jamie rubbing off on him, but the need to do at least one good deed somewhat hung over him here. A frown settled on his lips as he walked the streets, his eyes wandering between the men and women that trudged down the streets.

He'd met a few Balosar back on Tatooine, and most of them were downright...well he didn't want to say scum but it was true. They could read emotions, or at least a part of emotions, and that allowed them to be excellent con-men. Kurt had met the like more than once, and although he knew it wasn't good to profile, he did keep a rather tight grip on his pack.

It paid to be weary after all.

As he continued down the street a pang hit the back of his throat, a frown coating his lips for a moment as he looked around. He scanned the different signs that hung over buildings, and after a moments paused picked a cantina at random.

It was her turn to do the dirty work. Come to think of it, she wasn't even sure why they swapped to begin with. Drinking in the bar was clearly Saoirse's favourite thing to do, and this... Well, this was where Evaelyn's heart truly resided.

"I know who you are! I know what you did at Devereux' and Station Inn! That poodoo won't work with me. You can kark right off" Two beefy Nikto stepped up in front of her, while the Balosar native leaned comfortably back in his big chair behind the desk, looking positively smug at the turn of events. Behind her a Balosar of the tall and lanky persuasion and a Weequay grabbed each of her arms.

He seemed to have thought just because he had brought her here, into his private office away from the customers and guarded by his thugs, that he held some sort of power over her.

"I was hoping you would say that" the nearly unnaturally tall blue-haired woman grinned back at them. She was so glad she wasn't Saoirse right now. This wouldn't be as simple as their last gig it seemed. He had come prepared, she'd give him that.

She pulled suddenly and hard on the Balosar to her left, pulling him towards her and tripping him over her hip. That man's balance was way off at this point, and he wouldn't become an issue again in the near future. Meanwhile her now freed up arm carried onwards with her momentum, landing a heavy elbow square on the Weequay's jaw. The sudden and loud crack came like music to her ears. Party time.

No doubt things were getting heated in the back. But her companion could handle it. Whether or not that was actually true did not matter as much, she was running with the assumption. This was her time off.

Saoirse feigned frustration and as sense of imminent defeat as the negative 22 placed down on the table. The Balosar native was rather enjoying himself. This was about as close to a pure sabacc you’d get. Usually a winning hand. There was an extra layer of satisfaction then, when she laid down her own positive 22.

“A draw? Oh wait, no, I actually won this one, right? Lucky me” It was a real challenge to keep the innocent face up, and her massive grin threw that whole facade out of the window. She scooped up her winnings. “You cheated!” The all too predictable accusation was thrown her way. “Of course I didn’t” Of course she did.

“Now are you going to sit there and moan and be a sore loser all night, or are we going to play another round?” Frustration had settled on his face, but he was considering it. “Double or nothing” “Alright!” She had barely finished her sentence before he grunted his response. His frustration hadn’t faded, but she was nursing his addiction and he simply couldn’t say no.
