- Enhanced Slicing: The socket spike came about as a development from SIN's avenues into Robotics. As the corporation developed its cybernetic enhancements and continued to further it's own research it quickly realized that many enhancements could be shifted and focused into products. One of these products was the Socket Spike, a device that enhances a users ability to interface with technology. Like many cybernetics already in existence the Socket Spike allows one to further their understanding of technology, slicing protocols, and everything of the sort. The tool's enhancements are such that use of it allows one to bypass even socket guards. Obviously the device does not make someone a perfect slicer, but it does allow an already skilled individual to do even better.
- Immobile: When in use, the Socket Spike essentially renders one immobile. Due to the way the interface works the Socket Spike draws the entirety of someones attention to the point where they become nearly physically paralyzed. This is an obvious detriment given that even an ordinary slicer could duck or move out of the way of something coming close to them whereas someone wearing a socket spike would have to shut down their current protocol, unplug the device, and then move. This means utilizing the Socket Spike can be extremely dangerous.
- Feedback: Unfortunately, due to the nature of the device it is entirely possible for a 'feedback' loop to occur. This essentially 'traps' the user of the Socket Spike in their current protocol, forcing them to rework it over and over again. When this happens and outside influence must shut down the protocol and the device to allow the trapped slicer to move once more.
As SIN continues to grow, it's development in technology and products grow as well.
One of these products was the Socket Spike, a device created specifically for Natalia and Slevin's children the Coratanni Bio-Slicers. These devices were essentially meant to enhance the children's already rather capable skills in slicing, giving them an edge in their work and allowing them to better complete the tasks set ahead of them.
The Socket Spikes were crafted within SIN's laboratories, devices extrapolated from the companies already rather large hand in the robotics industries. The theory behind the device was rather simplistic, it's design focusing around the function of well known slicing technology such as the computer spike. The device isn't exactly the 'next leap forward' in Slicing technology as it is not a catch all, but it does significantly increase a Slicers capabilities.
Obviously, like most tech, the Socket Spike has a rather major downside.
Utilizing the device takes quite a bit of focus and essentially 'locks down' a user. When the Socket Spike is engaged at a terminal the user is rendered in an almost paralytic state. Though they are capable of minor movements such as typing or even turning their head, significant actions such as taking a step or quickly ducking down are entirely out of the question.
Even though this problem is significant, the gains of the device far outweigh it in the minds of most.
