HISTORY
Over two centuries ago, Skaarn was born on the frozen world of Maldo Kreis. He was born into a simple, yet treacherous life. His parents belonged to a community of Dowutins who had settled on Maldo Kreis as trawlers. Yet, many dangers presented themselves to anyone who had joined this life. Freezing temperatures, hazardous conditions while trawling, and the ever present dangers of creatures like ravinaks and the white spiders.
It was into this hard life that Skaarn had grown up in. He knew of hardship, and was disgusted with the state of his people. His ancestors had been great warriors, but now they had been reduced to nothing more than the degrading positions he was used to. When he became old enough, Skaarn left his community to find his fortune in the Galaxy. Being a Dowutin, his large size and hardy physique made him perfect for mercenary work.
In the start of his mercenary career, Skaarn was nothing but a green horn. He started off sloppy, and was treated nothing more than brute muscle by his peers. That was, however, until he met his mentor. For a time, Skaarn ran with a mercenary syndicate headed by a Mandalorian by the name of Silas Rook. Under his wing, the Dowutin learned how to properly fight and handle himself as a mercenary. He was no longer merely the dumb muscle. He could strategize and be skillful.
As he is coming into his own, Skaarn took inspiration from history. He had long heard about an ancient Gen'Dai mercenary called Durge. Salvaging some gammaplast from a prior job, Skaarn shaped armor that was an homage to Durge. He even adopted a Mandalorian symbol on the chest as a way to honor Silas.
With his identity assured, Skaarn became a mercenary in his own right. Over the next few decades, he largely kept out of Galactic events. He never got involved in any major wars, influenced anyone from any major powers. He simply took jobs that he enjoyed and raked in the rewards.
In the present, Skaarn now enjoys the quasi-lawlessness that the Galaxy finds itself in. How quickly empires can rise and fall. How tribal war bands crash themselves against the stars like malevolent tempest. As he once said, he joined the oldest business in sentient history. And boy, business is good!
STRENGTHS / WEAKNESSES
(+) Large and In Charge: As a Dowutin, Skaarn is a rather solid piece of work. He stands rather tall and heavy over most other humanoids. He is also much stronger than an average human. This gives him an edge towards his lethality, brutality, and his feat for intimidation.
(+) Mandalorian-Taught: under the tutelage of Silas Rook, Skaarn learned many fighting techniques. Namely, a Mandalorian form of martial arts resembling Muay Thai. From Silas, he also learned to be more accurate with a blaster, and to be at least conversational in Mando'a.
(-) Sociopath: Skaarn loves the hunt, in an almost unhealthy way. Having lived many years in a trawling village on Maldo Kreis, he feels like becoming a mercenary is reclaiming his ancestral right as a warrior. He gets a cruel satisfaction out of using his strength to capture, fight, or pirate other people with little remorse.
(-) Bigger They Are: Despite his tremendous size, his physicality can be used against him. While his fighting form emphasizes a rooted stance and powerful strikes, he has had difficulty with more agile opponents.
