SPECIAL FEATURES:

Strengths:
  • Heavy long-range firepower
  • Can land on planets: it can thus land a sizeable invasion force for ground assaults
  • Strong hull
  • Strong defenses
  • Ability to penetrate interdiction fields
Weaknesses:
  • Slow, unmaneuverable
  • Exposed command tower
  • Exposed ventral hangar
  • Exposed shield generators atop the command tower
  • Exposed aft tailfin: if the tailfin explodes, it triggers a chain reaction that may take the reactors down with it, and also disables the hyperdrive as well as its ability to land on planets
  • Rapid-fire turbolasers are only effective within half standard turbolaser range
  • Repulsorlift generator failures must be repaired in orbit
Description: The Sionoma-II-class integrates several lessons of battle: first and foremost being the addition of a HIMS, thanks to the rise in the use of interdictors, especially by the First Order. Also, it was found that the humongous Ziost ventral hardpoint was too exposed in battle and was replaced by a hardpoint delivering much less firepower and hence a lesser-priority target for enemies on a battlefield, and also the limited point-defense ammunition was found to be a liability in prolonged engagements, so the point-defense emplacements were replaced by electromagnetic plasma emplacements. And, thanks to the experience of Ossus, a heavy tractor beam was also fitted to enable it to clear incoming asteroids out of the way, or to otherwise tow dangerous objects while maintaining safe distance. For those items, a fighter squadron was sacrificed compared to the old model, with just 3 squadrons embarked onboard, and also speed and maneuverability: the resulting sluggish speed is considered acceptable on a ship that size. Nevertheless, the weapons suite still bears some similarities to its predecessors, in that it can attack targets at both short and long ranges.

Using the same hull chassis as its predecessors made it so that the same problems occurred: exposed command tower, exposed ventral hangar, exposed shield generators atop the command tower and so on, so forth, which are, in fact, intrinsic to dagger designs. Even then, it still retained its ability to land on planetary surfaces and hence to support planetary campaigns, thanks to its large number of variable-geometry landing gears enabling it to land on a variety of uneven terrain. The ability is still coming to the same basic costs as it was on its predecessors: repulsorlift generator failures must be repaired in orbit.
