This necklace was designed by Titan Industries for Silara Vantai by order of Alric Kuhn.
The necklace appears to be just that, a regular, if fancy necklace. It was designed in the style of what is called a 'choker', a style of necklace often worn on Empress Teta to denote high fashion and nobility. Silara's necklace in particular is designed to appear to denote prestige and high class, a sign of Alrics upbringing on Empress Teta and his own thoughts on Silara.
The necklace itself is woven of Energy-Spider webbing harvested from the energy-spiders kept at the Coruscant Livestock Exchange and Exhibition. These Energy-Spiders are some of the few left in the galaxy and the only known ones that are in captivity. Harvesting the webbing proved extremely difficult, time consuming, and excessively dangerous. Despite this however, Alric Kuhn used his extreme wealth to acquire enough of the raw webbing to have it spun into fine strands that would eventually create Silaras necklace.
These fine strands were interwoven and interlocked, creating thin patterns while retaining an extreme amount of strength, making it difficult, if not impossible to tear the necklace off Silara's throat. This process all had to be done by hand and took several dozen hours to complete. Eventually ending with the strands finely woven together in the basic look of the necklace itself.
Placed at the back of the finely woven strands of the choker was a clasp made of a combination finely treated Drexl Leather and Platinum. Like the Energy-Spider webbing Drexl Leather was another extremely expensive material given the nature of Drexl and their protective status on Onderon, a world not friendly to Titan Industries.
The platinum used throughout the choker, both on the clasp and on the singular front crest of the necklace was purchased through ATC at slight discount. The metal used in the Necklace is pure, and makes up a sizable portion of the necklaces weight. The platinum is finely wrought, polished and shaped, giving the crest a neat look which makes the metal nearly always shine.
This is all to say that the choker itself is probably worth in excess of a hundred million credits. Given the materials used, the craftsmanship put into it, and the uniqueness of its appearance this estimation is likely spot on.
Of course, the necklace itself is not just designed to look pretty.
Recently, Silara Vantai went through several tragic ordeals. Losing a limb on Kashyyyk, being marred, and then losing her sight during the healing process. As such, Alric, whom holds a great infatuation with Silara, which borders on love, has great concerns as to her safety and health. To alleviate these concerns, and thoughts of worry, Alric had the scientists at Titan Industries create this necklace.
Interwoven into the crest of the necklace are two tiny functioning machines. The first of these is a simple locator beacon. This device remain inactive until Alric utilizes, at which point it sends out a signal, showing Alric Silaras location to an exact point. This locator beacon has effectively infinite range due to its nature. It can send out a small ping signal to any holo-net system. However if none is in range advanced programming kicks in and automatically piggiebacks off of other comm-lines. This technology is not new and the size of the ping makes it nearly undetectable.
The second device contained within the Crest is a relatively simple bio-metric scanner. This technology is the reason why it was essential the necklace be...well a necklace. The scanner checks Silaras health, utilizing her heart rate, how much she is sweating, and a number of other factors to determine if she is well. The scanner is incredibly detailed and can provide complete medical knowledge as to what is wrong with Silara. This device piggie backs off of the locator signal, and thus, cannot be activated without the other being online.
This necklace is an essence a way for Alric Kuhn to ensure Silaras safety and well being without constantly being by her side. It allows him to put his mind at ease and, if ever necessary, find her if she is in danger. It is also a representation of how much he cares for her. The style of its make represents that he holds her in high esteem, and the fact that it is of Tetan design symbolizes that he is willing to share his past with her, something he rarely does with anyone.
Overall, the necklace is far more than a pretty and expensive trinket. Instead it holds both emotional and physical value.
