[member="Mit Tuxaire"] In order to get rid of the white in GIMP, you have to add an alpha channel; otherwise the eraser just acts like a white (or whatever your secondary color is) paintbrush. To add an alpha channel, right click the layer you're working on in the layer panel; "add alpha channel" should be one of the options you get. After that you'll erase completely, leaving a clear background.
