Showmanship Breifly

She smirched her lips and attempted a reply,

"Maybe you're young or inexperienced, but this world is not a happy place to live. Money, power, and blood. These things are real. These are the things that mold the universe and the people that live in it. I am no pacifist. My hand rests upon a sword to see it's duty fulfilled. Thusly, when I joined the Order I thought I would be training to do some good in this endless galaxy of ours. But I fear this Order is not prepared for the troubled waters ahead."

Sam held up a hand,

"It matters not. My time has been short and my perspective a shallow pool. Time will heal all wounds and will offer me a chance to prove my worth as a Jedi. If only to myself."

Verrin stared at her for a few seconds. She joined the Order so that she could learn to fight? Even if her intentions were well, he couldn't agree with that. Keeping the peace, trying to bring what good they could into the galaxy... he understood those reasons, but trying to to join the Order to fight sounded like it would lead to a life that would never get real satisfaction.

"I am not sure I could support that idea. We, as Jedi, should not be trying to make warriors. We should do what we can, but we should always be scholars, healers, and teachers before we are anything approaching warriors," He said looking out over the city.

"I know the galaxy is not a nice place. I do. I know there are people out there who do... terrible things, but if we start to grow more aggressive, at what point do we stop becoming keepers of the peace and start becoming enforcers and overlords? We should do what we can, but we should not go looking for fights," Verrin said looking back to Sam.

She shrugged and shook her head,

"Well. I suppose I support the idea that the Jedi be enforcers and overlords. I think a sword in it's sheath can stay more conflicts that a silver tongue. And a sword out of sheath can stop all conflicts with a beautiful grace. There is no mediation without power. The blind cannot lead, the weak cannot stand, and the pacifist will always die well. And first. ...No. My conscience is not built for still waters. My heart was built to ride the seas."

That brought a smile to her face.

"I think the masses of the galaxy are very much like humans. And I think humans are only peaceful and respectfully when the other guy has a bigger gun."

[member="Verrin Ris'To "]

"And what if the sword starts coming out of its sheath every time someone disagrees with their new overlords? How does the one holding the sword know when to swing and when to stay their hand? When does it stop becoming enforcing good and turn into tyranny? Instead of protecting the weak, you become the one holding them down for the 'good of others'. I am not saying that to draw your blade is wrong, but it should always be the last option... if you have to threaten and intimidate everyone you meet into obeying your will... then there may be something wrong with you and not the galaxy." He said leaning forward as he was interested in what she would say as he had yet to hear a fellow Jedi advocate, freely, that they should be more militaristic.

Verrin felt a little... sad that she believed that humans could only listen when they were afraid of the consequences, "My kind, we have a darkness in our souls that calls for us to kill, dominate, and destroy everything in our path, but despite that, many of our people have built a cultural and ideology around self-control. Of rising above our instincts and creating things of beauty. I think the second you lose hope and faith in the light that resides in the common person then the fight is already over."

She smiled. It was a common saying.

"I'm not ruled by fear Verrin. I don't ask the devils, 'what if'. Good men don't just twinkle into bad souls. No. My vision is so much more. I would see the Jedi become kings and priests. Rulers, lawyers, prophets, and inventors. I would never bind the Order to watching life pass away through the foggy glass of doubt and fate. That was the sin of the Old Orders. To kidnap children for fear of their fall. To hide away the libraries for fear of their knowledge. To cower, and crawl, and huddle away from the dark places in the galaxy. I would have the light of the Force be our beacon and our torch. I would have us rule in benevolence and peace for another thousand years. I would shower the galaxy with wisdom and throttle the Sith by the throat. I would see good men made champions and bad men brought to humility. Teach, not kill. Overpower, not destroy."

She smiled deeper,

"No. I am not governed by fear but by faith. And I will never ask the devil, 'what if'. ...Because I already know his answer. Hehe."

"Noble intentions," Verrin said trying to pick his words to not offend her, "But how many 'evil' men do you think started out wanting to cause harm and destruction? How many conquerors started out wanting to see the galaxy burn? I am sure many had noble intentions, but over time, their intention becomes warped, corrupted, and in turn, they become corrupted and become the evil they sought to defeat. You could mean the best for the universe, but before you realize it, your best intentions become the heaviest boot on their throats."

Verrin held up his hands, "But I am not saying you should not try. If that is what you feel is the right thing to do then I will not stop you. I have always believed that you have to follow your heart, and if your heart screams for you to take action, saber in hand, then I cannot fault you on it."

Sam smiled,

"I think that is a very welcome opinion. Hehe."

She waved away the comment,

"Well. I think I have imposed myself enough upon you for one day. I do hope we can meet again and do lunch in the future. Thank you for your thoughts and welcome honesty [member="Verrin Ris'To "]. Did you have any last questions before I get back to the tourney downstairs?"

Time was a fickle master for Jhovna. Where did it all go so quickly.

"I hope so as well," Verrin said drinking the last of his whiskey and putting on the table along with five credits to cover his drinks expense, "I don't have any further questions, and I hope you have a nice day."

Pushing himself to his feet, he stepped away from the table and gave her a small bow the same he did as when he first arrived, "It was lovely talking with you."

"Indeed it was."

She gave a nod and then returned to her reading. They had a busy day ahead of the both of them.
