Short Range Sonic Neutralizer
Intent: To create a non-lethal device for use in combat to distort/disorient enemies
Development Thread: As Needed
Manufacturer: ArmaTech Combat Systems
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Draco Vereen
Modularity: No
Production: Limited
Material: Loud Speaker Components
Weaknesses:
- Short Range of Effect, wide range of noticeably
- Easily Countered (Any Ear Protection will suffice)
- Does Not affect Droids or Electronics in any way
- Rarely Incapacitates affected individuals
Description:
The device is designed to disorient nearby enemies and cause nausea, temporary hearing loss, ringing of the ears, distorted vision, and vertigo allowing the user to better combat large numbers or particularly skilled individuals. By emitting high frequency high volume sounds, enemies within ten meters can suffer from disrupted hearing, moderate pain, and disorientation, with some subjects being known to suffer nausea and vertigo as well. At some frequencies the sound actually vibrates the victim’s eyes, causing distorted vision.
In rare cases amongst species known for their acute hearing, subjects have been known to fall unconscious or be completely incapacitated by the device. No test subjects have exhibited any permanent damage, and temporary hearing loss is only expected to last between thirty and sixty seconds, as well as any other effects of the device. The device is rendered useless by basically every form of hearing protection, and is ineffective against droids, forcing the user to wear hearing protection in order to benefit from the device. In addition the noise is noticeable without assistance for several hundred meters, meaning that stealth is impossible when using the device. However during a large scale battle its effects are noticeably decreased outside of its area of effect due to the din of battle.
The device effects all living beings within ten meters of it, using short ten second bursts once a minute. The device emits sounds of approximately 2 kilohertz, powered by a standard blaster power cell, and operated by a simple on/off switch and frequency knob. It can remain operational for five to ten minutes, using a single power cell.
