Shen-Ru Cargo Hold

Intent: To create a unique cargo hold for the Shen-Ru class Ore Freighter that makes the highest possible use of its cargo capacity.
Development Thread: Will complete if asked
Manufacturer: Invictus Aeronautics
Model: CH-1 Shen-Ru
Affiliation: Open Market (will be used on Shen-Ru class ships)
Modularity: Minor
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Durasteel
Description: The Shen-Ru Cargo Hold is not a typical cargo hold. Designed specifically to carry the highest possible amount of mineral ore, this development from Invictus Aeronautics makes use of cyclonic vacuum technology to sort mineral ore from useless asteroid dust as well as create a higher storage capacity. The CH-1 sucks mineral ore collected from mining vessels through huge, bore-like hoses at high speed at a direction tangential to its far wall, creating a fast-spinning vortex. Due to centrifugal force, asteroid dust is forced to the outside of the vortex and then dumped from the craft through various airlocks, while the heavier mineral ore finds its way downward to a resting position due to its arti-grav systems. The vortex can continue until the 155 000 metric ton cargo hold is almost full, which means it takes advantage of its space more than galactic competitors. Within the cargo hold, air pressure is reduced by 20%, which allows for a higher amount of mineral ore storage.

Basically, the Shen-Ru Cargo Hold allows for a maximum usage of cargo space while heavily reducing instances of asteroid dust remaining with the mineral ore, making it a superior ore-specific cargo hold.

Role: Cargo Hold
Height: 58 metres
Length: 210 metres
Width: 120 metres
Weight: (Via Metric System)
Passenger Capacity: None.
Cargo Capacity: 155 000 metric tons
Misc. Equipment: Cyclonic vacuum technology, airlocks, artificial gravity technology, bore hoses

I have a question: just how powerful is this vacuum/hose technology we're talking about here? I don't want an innocent-seeming cargo hold to suddenly turn into a weapon of sorts against other ships.

This is essentially a household vacuum cleaner on a much larger scale. It's powerful enough to suck up mineral ore collected by a mining vessel, but not powerful enough to suck up a ship. Ships are simply too large to be affected.
