Description: The Order of Shasa, an ancient Selkath Force tradition that endured close to four thousand years, had a powerful ability to discern truth. Their craftsmen instilled this ability in carved amulets of whalebone, or the bones of Firaxan sharks. The amulet will become warm if a lie or blatantly deceptive half-truth is told to the wearer, or very close to the wearer. It will also become warm if the wearer lies or deceives. It does not respond to other kinds of deception, like disguises or illusions; it focuses entirely on verbal or telepathic communication. Though the Shasan Truthseeker is a minor artifact by all accounts, its puzzling ability to perceive lies, even when told be experienced liars and Force-wielding mentalists, has frightened more than a few dangerous individuals. Perhaps its perceptions derive from the subject's mind, physiology, spirit, or something of the living Force in the immediate area; nobody is sure, but it might be all or one of these, and Force-based attempts to counter the amulet have, thus far, not been successful. The amulet will not work on Yuuzhan Vong, artificial intelligence, or droids.
These amulets are very rare, often hoarded or destroyed by those who fear their odd little power.
