Shani was born to a very religious Togruta family on the Shili, in a small village where not only the Ashlan faith but a very strong form of independence had deep roots. Her parents were very outspoken members of the community and were well known across their region as outspoken political idealists. Despite this, she lived a rather quiet childhood until the empire arrived earlier in her childhood. Her Parents' outspokenness came back on them and they eventually talked themselves into having to flee into exile. It was during the beginning of this exile that the young Toddler Shani started to manifest her strong affinity towards the force. Unfortunately, it was also during this exile that she would live through her darkest days.
Prologue
When the convoy of trading ships they'd booked passage on was attacked by Pirates, the crews did the best they could to put up a defensive fight, but the slavers were simply too well equipped, and they subdued everyone that wasn't killed into the assault, pressing them into service. Despite her parents' best efforts, Shani's talents were discovered and the pirates had the sinister idea to exploit them for their own use. The pirates pushed Shani deeper and deeper into depression, anger, and eventually hatred, using her carelessly and mercilessly as a weapon against whatever innocents they felt would provide the best slaves or the best loot. Every new use of her power, every death she caused, and every strike of pain drover her closer towards the breaking point, until finally she snapped.
Lashing out without any discrimination or restraint, in the center of her midager years, Shani simply snapped during one of the Pirates' raids, eviscerating the crew of the ship they had boarded and then turning her rage on the pirates who had brought her. When she returned to the pirate ship, her rampage only became more bloody as pirates and her fellow slaves alike were killed, and even her family cowered and ran. Only the serendipitous arrival of a Jedi Master - Grandmaster Sala Corsanis - who had followed the other ship's helpless distress call, could save those left on board, seizing the rampaging youngling and calming her to a state in which she could be reasoned with. In the ensuing breakdown, Shani inadvertently flashburned much of her rampage, remembering only its start and having nearly killed her own blood. Seeing neither true evil nor love of Bogan in Shani, the Grandmaster took the child in - offering her fellow slaves freedom and safety in the Ashlan Crusade.
Under the next several years, Shani undertook difficult trials learning the ways of the Blades, and completely relearning everything she had known, or thought she had known, about the force during her time being used as a living weapon. Perhaps even more difficult than the training was coming to terms with even the evil that she could remember she had done, and learning to trust others, even to trust the savior who had shown her the grace that Ashla would show her children. After those 5, long arduous years, Shani was finally ready to face the world at large, and try to bring Ashla's light to others, as she had been brought Ashla's light.
With the dissolution of the Crusade sending the newly knighted Togruta into a period of wandering, she slowly but surely worked her way towards the core, where it seemed the most evil was ruling over the Galaxy, and where she saw the most good to be done.
