PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

  • Long Live the Empire!: A staunch believer in the ideals of the New Order, Sergan has dedicated his life to restoring the Empire across the entire galaxy rather than turning into one of countless warlords who have formed their own miniature Empires.
  • Fight. Fall. Rise: Despite receiving injuries that might force a sane creature into a safer career, Sergan is firm in his belief that as long as he is alive, he can still serve the Empire in some capacity. He is unlikely to back down from a challenge unless it directly harms the Empire.
  • A Loyal Friend: Though infighting is all too common among Imperial ranks, Sergan is not afraid to display honest friendship to those who have earned it. Even if the Empire is to instill a certain degree of fear in all who serve it, there is plenty of room to show respect and genuine compassion for those who are worthy. Even the lowest of technicians aboard Imperial ships deserve respect, after all, they are the ones who keep the Navy strong and fierce.
  • A Hokey Religions: The force is an unknown quantity to Sergan, therefore he is naturally rather wary of those who can use it, even more so for those who belong to one of the many groups and orders whose members have their own goals and beliefs, often at odds with those of the New Order or just common decency.

STRENGTHS

+Veteran of the Outer Rim: Sergan has spent nearly his entire life aboard a warship of some kind, and to survive the chaotic nature of the Outer Rim for this long is something of an achievement. As a result of his service among these lawless starts, Sergan is an expert at combating Pirate bands and various Rebel cells that employ hit-and-run tactics over open battle.
+We'll just have to make do!: Long gone are the days when the Empire could field countless starships, now any good officer must learn to make do with limited resources. Sergan has experienced these limitations firsthand and has come to master what forces he is given to achieve their maximum potential.
+Alien and Human, United in Service: Though many did and still do hold xenophobic views within the Empire, Sergan understands that the ideals of the New Order apply to all, not simply humanity. He is more than willing to not only work with the various other species of the galaxy but willingly welcome them into the Imperial fold.

WEAKNESSES

-Traitors are to be crushed: Years of dealing with countless insurgent cells have left Sergan with the view that all who willingly take up arms against the Empire are traitors, he is unafraid to wipe out all who support these traitors, often alienating potential allies.
-The Battlefield, not a conference room: Sergan is no politician, the inner machinations of the Imperial government are lost on him, making him open to manipulation by someone with a particularly clever tongue.
-An Empire without an Enemy: Though perfectly capable of dealing with pockets of resistance and pirate fleets, Sergan has yet to engage in a true fleet battle between two matched forces. a lack of experience means that he is very much prone to making mistakes that cost battles.

HISTORY

It has been nearly a millennium since the fall of the Galatic Empire.

Its fleets were crushed. Its servants scattered.

But its supporters remain, the New Order will always persevere.

While Lantillies was never a bastion of Imperial strength, its people have always been known to choose reliability over elegance. Its people have witnessed countless Galatic governments rise and fall, all while their people have remained the same. In the chaos that has gripped the Mid and Outer Rim, pirate bands raid unimpeded and various terrorist groups target the innocent for the sake of ideals that are simply impractical. Lantillies, a major shipping and manufacturing hub, was able to afford a fleet for its defense, but the attacks on its trade and people began to drive off potential business and made life for the average citizen worse with each passing month. It was in this chaos that a young Sergan Vanori took his first command aboard a corvette in the Lantillies Defense Fleet. While not a prestigious position, it was nevertheless a step up for a member of a family that made its name stripping old ships that came for refurbishing in Lantillies shipyards. While the countless months in orbit of his homeworld were safe, Sergan wanted to make a real difference. That chance came when his ship, the Callus, was attached to a frigate during a convoy escort through pirate space. While this posting promised no real battle, it was a chance to leave his home system and see the galaxy for what it was.

It was on the return trip that the pirates struck, the cargo fleet's hulls full of valuable materials that were simply too good to pass up. Much to the dismay of the commander of the trade fleet, the pirate fleet had greater numbers than expected. The given order was to provide defensive fire while the fleet made a blind jump into hyperspace, a decision that Sergan chose to ignore outright. But his single corvette could not hope to take on several frigates and their starfighter escort, so he made a radical decision. Ordering his crew to abandon ship, he took the helm to direct his corvette into the nearest pirate frigate. It was during this ramming maneuver that his ship received a direct strike from a turbolaser battery as it neared its target, This left Sergan without an arm and severe damage to his face, but nevertheless, he only chose to abandon ship once it was impossible to divert from its current course. From the viewport of his pod, he watched as the pirates desperately scrambled to destroy the incoming vessel to no avail. The corvette collided with its mark, and the resulting explosion shattered the pirate frigate and sent debris in all directions, starfighters scattered or were destroyed in the blast while the two remaining frigates sustained heavy damage, one even being destroyed by the Lantillian frigate that came to pick up the crew of the Callus.

While this act was suicidally brave, it was far from popular with Lantillian command. After medical care for his injuries, Sergan went before a military tribunal to determine the punishment for disobeying orders. As it turned out, his actions left several members of the Defense Fleet divided, some believing he wasted a ship on a minor victory that the pirates would simply recover from while others saw it as the opening strike in a true war. In the end, the conservative tribunal chose to have him honorably discharged on account of his "injuries", though really it was the best way to get rid of him while ensuring they did not face any backlash from other officers. Despite his career seemingly being over, Sergan was approached days after his discharge by a conspiratorial group of officers who believed he was the right man to carry out their plan. Lantillies had several old warships held in reserve that were to be stripped and used to create new vessels, among these an old Star Destroyer. While the vessel would be impossible to fully crew with the small force at the conspirator's disposal, they believed that a bold officer could use the ship to utterly crush the pirates in the sector. But Sergan had much to consider if he went along with the plan he would actively be betraying the wishes of the high command, and he would be tried and executed for treason should this plan fail. But he knew something had to be done, so he agreed to the proposal.

The ship was taken without much struggle, the few guards who protected the shipyard were happy to take a bribe or fell to the greater numbers of the conspirators. While the ship needed well above 30,000 to function a maximum efficiently, the conspirators could only garner 100 men to crew the ship. With this tiny crew, the Star Destroyer left the salvage yards and quickly made a hyperspace jump before anyone could stop them. Here, the second part of the conspirator's plan came into play as they had learned the pirates operated in an uncharted asteroid belt, this information was found in the wreckage of the ships destroyed in the initial engagement that Sergan had been discharged over. Sergan had chosen to allocate his crew to cover as many of the ship's gun batteries as possible, focusing on its turbolaser batteries while sacrificing its point-defense lasers. If the pirate's starfighters engaged the ship it would be unable to resist for very long. But Sergan's plan was to annihilate the pirate's base before the pilots even reached their fighters. To do this, they would need to avoid the pirate's sensors and the only possible way to accomplish this was to brave the far side of the asteroid field and attack the pirate's base from behind. The ship would simply appear as a large asteroid, or at least that was the hope.

Slowly and carefully, the ship made its way through the asteroid belt, chunks of rock slamming into its hull as to moved forward. One large asteroid barely missed the bridge, instead destroying one of the twin sensor bulbs atop the Destroyer's bridge. While it was feared the pirates would detect the collision, the base remained calm, even as the capital ship neared. Once the ship was in position, all of the manned guns targeted the base directly and opened fire, laser after laser crashing into the asteroid turning the space station and ripping it apart. The station did eventually return fire, but it was far too late to stop the onslaught as a final barrage of fire from the Star Destroyer penetrated the base's reactor, causing an explosion that ripped the station apart and destroyed any ships nearby that were coming to its aid. This was a major victory, in one battle an entire sector had been freed from pirate attacks, but this was not enough to prevent the coming retribution. Sergan and those who followed him were branded traitors and sentenced to death in absentia for disobeying direct orders and theft of a capital ship.

In the following years, the ship and her crew turned to mercenary work, adding worlds that could not afford a true defensive force and slowly filling in the missing positions that needed to be filled. It was during this time that Sergan's heart longed for a true purpose, not the endless wandering of a mercenary. He longed for safe hyperspace lanes, a powerful fleet that could safeguard the entire galaxy and not a single world. He wanted an end to the chaos, to bring order to a galaxy in desperate need. With the formation of an "Empire of the Lost" on Lianna, Sergan saw his destiny laid out before him.

To serve the Empire. To herald the New Order once more!
