Selene’s earliest memories were that of an orphanage, or rather several orphanages. Every few years a tragedy would occur, forcing all the children to be relocated to a new one. This repeated several times until around the day Selene turned fourteen.
The morning after, she awoke to find everyone was dead, and she was carrying the bloody knife.
It was that day Selene discovered her ‘other half’, her dark passenger, or whatever you wanted to call it. Something or someone who woke whenever she fell asleep, and worse of all? It wasn’t senseless, it could choose when it awoke.
There was suspicion initially, as a byproduct of being the only survivor. But it didn’t last long, due to Selene’s history and behavior. She was sent to a foster family to look after, but knowing the truth now, Selene didn’t hesitate to ‘run away from home’ to ensure no one else died.
So she disappeared out into the galaxy, trying to find her place. Taking on odd jobs here and there, while formulating a system to restrain her other half whenever they awoke. It worked for a time, until a bit after her eighteenth birthday…
Having been working a boring and simple office job, one night shift Selene had dozed off for only a moment.
A single moment was all that was needed…
