Scum and Villainy Basics

Scum and Villainy

Scum and Villainy is a mini game hosted on Star Wars Chaos revolving around the less savory elements of the galaxy and those attempting to stop them. Crime and punishment. Will you be a champion of justice, a dirty cop, or a cartel kingpin? The choice of how you play is in your hands.

In the Scum and Villainy game we will focus on several planets and a few districts that lie within. Each district will have one or more Criminal Activities. A Criminal Activity in the context of the game is any business in which you may earn a profit while playing. Each district will have their own types of Criminal Activities. Criminal Activities will have a certain amount of wealth points attributed to them. These points represent wealth to the player who claims them. Points may be earned with simple RP threads similar to development threads, for every ten posts you gain one point on the planet in the district for that criminal activity. These points are finite with an upper limit.

For Example on Planet A District B you may have a hijacking Criminal Activity. Assigned to it is 10 points. That means only 10 points may ever be claimed by players. When the Criminal Activities points are all filled up you can no longer do a development thread to gain them and instead must “muscle out” your competition by competing in a Gang War.

Think of the ensuing Gang War as a miniature invasion where small groups of people try to beat on each other to gain dominance of an area. These do not have to be straight up fights and we encourage people to be creative. Gang Wars may be fought for up to 3 points in a Criminal Activity as determined by the aggressor. The attacker gets to set one objective with the consent of the defender. Presumably this objective for each point over the initial point being fought over the defender has the right to make an additional objective. This allows the defender to make an object that favors them over an overreaching attacker.

Police Actions:
The local authorities be they Jedi, CorSec or whatever passes as a police force may initiate a Police Action on any gang similar to a gang war. These Police Actions may take the form of an investigation, a court case, or a raid and act in a manner similar to Gang Wars. The only exception is the police don’t take over the Criminal Activity but instead nullifies them allowing anyone to come in and fill the void by setting up a criminal activity in its place.
These can be tricky so writing prompts with example objectives and suggestions on how to RP will be provided. (see below for writing prompts). Every Time a police action is successfully completed the Officer(s) involved gain Two Reputation points. These points are similar to the wealth system but instead of measuring material wealth show an officer's level of peer respect. For losing a police action the officers lose a single reputation point. Top Cop is the guy with the biggest rep.

Bounty Hunters:
Bounty Hunters may be hired by both Gangs and Governments to hunt down people or perform tasks. Bounty Hunters work on a Reputation system identical to those described in a Police Action except that their reputation directly affects their income representing how much they are in demand. Further a bounty hunter doesn’t need to win any of their Gang War or Police Action threads but rather only needs to complete their objective to gain their points. Because most players don’t like their characters being captured or killed so readily it is suggested that bounty hunters get contracts on NPCs or for tasks instead of straight up PvP. If a bounty hunter does take a PvP job and wins however they will receive 4 Reputation points. If they lose a PvP assignment they still only lose the one Reputation. Boba Fett even being dead for hundreds upon hundreds of years still has a Reputation of 10,000.

Writer Prompts: Writing Prompts will be provided for various Criminal Activities to give players an idea what to do. These are by no means mandatory but rather are meant to be an aid for roleplaying. Writing prompts could be suggestions of committing a heist or hiring a smuggler. The concept being to get more people involved.

Buyers: For certain items and Criminal Activities simply cornering the market isn’t enough and you require a buyer. This buyer can be other criminal gangs or outside sources playing the game. For instance if you have a weapons smuggling ring highjacking weapons from Bonadan and smuggling them off world you may approach the Rebel Alliance to sell to. Items that require buyers will be clearly labeled as such. Be Wary a buyer can always choose to take his business elsewhere! It’s best you have multiple buyers. (Note that until the game expands a buyer will simply add +1 wealth to the Criminal Activity)

Heists: Like buyers heists are a requirement to set up certain Criminal Activities. To obtain certain tiers in certain activities you will be required to commit a heist or hire active theives to help you in heisting. For instance if you were to set up a Death Stick clinic at level three you would require lab equipment and chemicals. Therefore in order to obtain them you must commit a heist!

Force Users:
I do not care if you want to RP a force user in this setting. There is however expectations for those wishing to do so. Any trained character should not exceed the rank of Knight and should be Roleplayed responsibly. Master level characters may be permitted with consent of faction staff or be grandfathered in if they received their promotion while playing the game. Force Users should be roleplayed responsible and respectfully in this setting. If there is constant complaints about a force using character they may be ejected from the game via faction staff decision of community vote.

If we are inundated with force users other rules may come into effect such as, to RP a trained force user you must have two other characters in the game who are either untrained force users or non force users.

Disclaimer:
This is a living document and is subject to change as needed to keep the game fun. Notice I don’t say fair, but instead say fun. Obviously we don’t want people to just be ROFLStomped but at the same time it is a game of strategy as much as it is anything else and is designed with an eye toward competition.

This file is in no way complete yet and will be modified and edited as we play.
