The operating table was a mess.

Darth Sorn was in his Laboratory analyzing the specimen: A Tukata one of the many beasts of Korriban. Sorn managed to get plenty of the Tukata before the damn Alliance swooped in and ousted the Sith Empire. It was through then that the Empire began to fracture with a group leaving to form the Warlords of the Sith. Sorn was one of them, he was outraged at the fact that the Sith Empire couldn't defend the birthplace of the Dark Side. They were crumbling under the pressure of the New Imperial Orders and now blasted Jedi joined the pummeling. It was time for a new order a new place where the Sith could rise again and be better than the Empire. With the Warlords, Sorn could now conduct his experiments in peace without the backstabbers of the Empire though one must be cautious with Warlords as well. Still Sorns research could benefit the Warlords in their rise to power. His discovery could make people see the true power of the Dark Side.

He cut an incision into the Turkata's hide trying to analyze its insides. Sorn probably studied around 100 of these things but with each monster he experimented he came closer to the answer that he craved. On the surface, the Turkata are nothing to write home about but on the inside they were a manifestation of pure dark side energy. Thousands of years ago, Lord Renning made this discovery but was killed before he was able to expand on it. Sorn listened to his Holocron and built on his work getting closer to true transcendence than Renning ever did. "I'm so close," Sorn muttered. "Just a little more."

Nara couldn't sleep. She didn't have as many nightmares of her past anymore- not as often as before- the not being trusted, finding her fiance dead, the general shunning, and even the way others had seemed to look at her when she was someone else's escort for a little while after having been Sorn's- but still often enough. And the truth was that in general, she slept better when he was by her side.

But his side of the bed was empty. He was probably working, she knew, but it didn't help. Sometimes she wondered why it sometimes seemed other people besides her did their best work at night. She was used to being out at night, that was true. Sometimes an escort had to be. But time set aside for sleep was just that.

She knew how to get him back in bed, though, or so she thought. And with that in mind, she tiptoed into the room where he was working, her soft evening slippers barely making any noise, or so she hoped. Besides, there was a chance he wouldn't hear it over his Holocron, anyway.

Her hair was mussed from her tossing, as might have been expected in general, but she was paler than usual, one of the signs of a hard time sleeping. She hoped the sweat she knew she had released didn't smell. Though who knew- they hadn't been together long, but they might have gotten used to each other's scents by now, maybe even found them pleasant.

She needed him, and that was the truth, but unlike when the nightmares had taken her by surprise after not having them for awhile, she tried to be brave. Hopefully, her sultriness would cover her fear and entice him back to bed with her.

"Hello there, handsome. What are you working on?" She kept her voice low, next to his ear, hoping to hide the slight tremble in it. Good gracious, it was cold in here! Why did it seem like dissection rooms were always so cold?

"Something is missing," Sorn continued to cut into the Trakata's flesh trying gather more of his intestines. "I know that these beasts are pure dark side energy but I cannot gather enough evidence to present my findings to the council!" The Sith Scientist's anger started to take form ready to burst like a nuclear blast. Yet Sorn managed to channel that rage into force energy with dark tendrils forming on his fingertips. He learned a long time ago to harness the rage within him and turn it into power. Peace is a lie there is only passion and Sorn's passion is for science and discovery. He sent the tendrils deep inside the Tarkata's innards searching for its liver. Mean while the brain scan for his perfect specimen was almost done.

"Channel your rage," Sorn muttered. "The Dark Side makes you powerful." It manifested inside of him, Sorn was close to this breakthrough. Just then a familiar voice whispered into his ear. The sweet and soothing voice which caused Sorn's entire body to relax, it was her: Nara. What was she doing here in his laboratory?

"Nara," Sorn turned to the pale skinned woman his head instinctively pressed against hers. She was dressed in her milky white sparking dress and her green eyes gazed upon him with a glint of innocence. As a Sith, one must never show weakness for they will use it as leverage against them. Sorn strove to get rid of any potential attachment until Rosanara Solarflare came into life and gave her body to him. She was the forbidden fruit something that Sorn swore not to take but did it anyway. She was his greatest strength but also greatest weakness as well.

"It is cold because I need to preserve these animals," he answered placing his knife while going over to wash his hands. "I've told you not to come here without my permission. You know what dangerous experiments I'll be working on, I cannot have you getting hurt."

"I was...sleepwalking. Well, close enough to it." She had the good sense to at least appear embarrassed. "I didn't quite know where I was going, only that I needed to find you. You know how the dreams make me feel trapped inside them." She relaxed, too, as he leaned his head against hers, her breathing beginning to return to normal at his touch. Truth be told. she was afraid that if they went any further in their relationship, the nightmares would only get worse...that she might dream of him being found dead just like her other fiance...that it might actually happen. She had lost enough in her life. She didn't need to lose any more. Surely it might be possible that she would spontaneously combust from the stress if she did.

But she couldn't not have him, either. Even if they didn't take the leap, get engaged, and marry. She had fallen too hard, and the truth was that she had not expected to fall in love at all. Even the man she had been engaged to marry hadn't made her feel like this. Then again, there wasn't that special sort of intense passion with him that there had so far been with Sorn, one that often only came from the fact that had things been different, they wouldn't be friends, let alone lovers.

"Come back to bed with me. How can you work this late, anyway? What are you, a machine, that you don't need any sleep...or any...other things?" She gave him a little wink.

"Besides, deep in your heart, and perhaps in other places as well, I think you know you might want to. You seemed so agitated just now. Certainly you might work better in a relaxed state." She had seen his frustration, though she hadn't quite understood the entire reason for it. Didn't it stand to reason that if someone stayed up late, they would be tired, and the lack of sleep would make them cranky?

"That's the same excuse you have everytime you stumble upon me working," Sorn said making sure to rub sanitizing soap between on to his hands. He knew that while Nara was curious about his research she had trouble understanding much less comprehending the work he put in. Though everyday Sorn would find her Nara reading books pertaining to science and philosophy Nara was often lost when it came to Biology. She was raised to be a father's daughter, someone to be herded like cattle to be married. For years she has served under the arm of many men as an escort but only fate had placed her under his arm and neither of them had looked the other way right now.

"The Dark Side keeps me up," Sorn said drying his hands approaching Nara to caress her soft cheek. "It stimulates me and beckons me to understand the many mysteries it provides the Sith. This work could rock the foundation of what we know about the dark side."

He bought Nara close to his chest. "But I know that you want something more exciting," he said kissing her head. "I promise you that I will show you life once you break away your chains my love."

"It's especially true tonight, though, or can't you tell by how pale I am?" Nara snuggled closer as he brought her to his chest and she breathed in his comforting yet masculine scent.

She nodded. "I understand... a little. The Dark Side keeps me awake, too. The idea that there might be something sort of... beyond it. Perhaps it's why we became friends, and then lovers. There is a strange sort of...almost good in the dark side. I mean that in a sense of duty. They take care of their own."

And her family had not.

"I can't help having chains, my love. I am neither good nor evil, a strange in-between. It seems to me, though, that no one has to be perfect here on the Sith side. As I've just said, they seem to me to take care of their own, whereas it felt like everyone on the side of the Light was suspicious of me after..." She couldn't finish, and she shivered.

"I have seen, in my experience, only on the Light side that there must be good. Only good, only perfection. Once someone isn't thought of as perfectly good..." She sighed. Perhaps the literal Dark Side wasn't the only dark thing keeping her awake.

She may as well have just switched sides the very second she was suspected of murder.

"Unless you meant something different than that, when you said I have chains?" She regarded him curiously, hoping he would explain. It wasn't only that she wanted to distract him. She truly hadn't understood what he meant.

"It doesn't matter how it happened. I am the Dark Side's now. And most importantly, I am yours. Now come back to bed with me, " If he was going to explain what he'd said, all the better in bed!

"You did say something about 'rocking foundations,'" she whispered, breathy.

Sadly there were many who chose the safety of bondage rather than freedom, such were the way of things. There were those who prefer blissful ignorance rather than grasp the power that was in front of them. Science and power will reveal the true nature of the force and of the dark side, Sorn had no time for weak individuals who would prefer to live their life in squalor he wanted to experience transcendence and experience true power. But Nara was the only person whom he loved despite her choosing to be in chains. No matter how much he convinced her to be free she would rather cling on to him like a baby would cling to its mother's arms. Under normal circumstances Sorn would find it pathetic but with Nara he felt passion within her a and she gave her soul to him.

"You know what I mean Nara," Sorn said softly. "The council would scoff at my findings but I know better the dark side possesses knowledge only the strongest can attain. But the Sith Empire is blinded by their own arrogance!"

She smiled a little. "Ah. It's not too different for me, when I read philosophy and psychology. It seems sometimes that people would rather remain ignorant, arrogant, or both than learn something that might challenge the way they think."

She curled closer, to comfort him. Then she had an idea. "Perhaps I could help you. Having a politician of sorts for a father, I learned some things. Perhaps that's partly why so few believed me after I was accused of the murder of my fiance. Politicians can have secrets, and often do target others in order to make them see their side. But it might help, somehow. Secrets... I could learn them by being an escort, you know, or at least I could before I realized I only liked being your escort." She had felt on display so many times, with anyone else. in the sense that being an escort meant loaning herself out, and her services could be used by anyone, including those who wouldn't necessarily protect her if someone tried to kidnap her because she was beautiful to them. With Sorn, she was protected, and respected. But perhaps if she worked on his behalf, he would sort of protect her indirectly because she was helping him. She might offer this as a last resort., but first she had another idea to suggest.

"They might be willing to at least listen if they were perhaps paid a great sum of money to do so. Have you ever thought of that? Arrogant people like money- maybe even especially so! And then, if they listen, they might find something they like."

Sorn chuckled when he Nara told him about how people would rather remain ignorant then choose to strive to know more about the Galaxy. "You're right about that," he smiled tenderly kissing her on the lips. "There are many people who ignorant of their ignorance, they are so entrenched within their beliefs that they refuse to hear any alternatives. They would block out, censor or even kill those who challenge their beliefs."

Nara wanted attain more knowledge which was good, in this pit of vipers known as Sith politics it would be nice to have a spy. Yet sending her to dangerous territories could be difficult especially if his enemies finds out about their relationship. "Some people can be bribed through credits," Sorn said wrapping his fingers around her pale hand. "Others through pleasure, know your target my dear Nara and then plan around their desires and you will already achieve victory."

Nara nodded and squeezed Sorn's hand. "I will, however, trust you-at least at first- to know whom to bribe. I realize you might think I'm afraid to go on adventures, and you might be right about that. I still don't feel safe, exactly. Perhaps I never will- being that by alliance- by the things I believe- I am neither good nor evil, and have been implicated in a crime I did not commit. But with you...I'm trying. I just need time. And I don't know how much time I will need. Our relationship- our confessions of love- that's still fairly new to me, too. Perhaps I need to be put in a dangerous situation so you can prove you love me...that you will protect me. Not that I'm totally helpless on my own, and you know that, but it can be difficult as a...a defector, if you will... to feel accepted. I don't want to feel in danger all the time. "

Maybe that was all she would need to come into her own here- the assurance that she wouldn't always be the only one defending herself.

"I don't expect you to completely understand- nor should I expect it of anyone. But to be mistrusted on both sides.... I can't take the tension anymore sometimes. But in this case... as your spy...I'd go through it all again for you. I hope you know that."

Sorn had to smirk at Nara's remark, of course he knew who to bribe he had eyes and ears all across the galaxy. Why else was he still standing while the others were ten feet under? To survive Sith politics was to be ruthless and always be on your guard at all times. Though for Sorn there was only one person he trusted completely and she was right her in front of him. "Do you think I'm not prepared Nara," Sorn asked cupping her cheek. "Preposterous! I have everything under control! As I have foreseen you will do very well as a spy."

The Sith Lord gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. "You are better than you think you are," he whispered in her. "And I will always be in a position where I will help you when you need it."

His touch and his kiss soothed her more than anything. His hand felt warm on her cheek. "I just needed to know that I won't always be the only one defending myself, that's all. It's horribly nerve-wracking. I love you. " She cupped his cheek and kissed him back. "For whatever it's worth, you're the only person I trust- and it may be that way for awhile, if not forever. I know enough to be on my guard when it comes to the political arena, yes. But otherwise... it's exhausting. And yet, I always sleep better when you're near, especially on nights like tonight." She smiled a little, though, despite her seriousness. "It appears that I'm going to be up for awhile, though." she said, thinking of his experiments. " So... how should we do this spy business? Where would you like me to go first, and when?"

Sometimes, she felt he worked a bit too much. It sometimes felt like they had only a little time for lovemaking, cuddling, and just being together. But it somehow felt as if they were at least somewhat closer when they discussed things like this. "I really do think I can help you, even if it's just by watching. And as much as I sometimes felt drained growing up,. the political experience as my father's daughter might mean something at last."

"I will always be with you Nara," Sorn kissed her passionately. "Right now the Warlords are engaging with the Silver Jedi they are the same the New Jedi Order but aren't saddled by the Galactic Alliance. They operate on their own killing any Sith that crosses in their territory. We must find a way to strike back at them and solidify ourselves in the Galaxy. First we must infiltrate Silvers and find out their weaknesses then when the time is right we will strike."
