DESCRIPTION

The first droid developed as a collaboration by the Santhe Corporation and Cestus Cybernetics. Dubbed the Santhe-Cestus 1 Battle Droid, it is presently the most intelligent and combatively apt mass produced droid on the market. The SC1 is intended as Cestus’ first foray into programming a battle droid and testing the combat capabilities of the J1 Droid Brain, as well as being Santhe’s replacement for the T1 droid. The SC1’s body is manufactured by Santhe, while the droid brain it uses and programming comes directly from Cestus Cybernetics.

The exterior build of the droid consists of reinforced dura-armor coupled with a blaster-resistant molytex coating. This isn’t nearly as fancy as it sounds, and only permits the droid to take a few direct hits from most light blasters and a scant few medium blasters before being rendered inoperable. This arrangement still makes it a great deal more durable than other battle droids on the market.

An SC1 Droid, without an energy shield or commander module, falls roughly into the price range of a B2 Battle Droid. Credit for Credit, however, the SC1 is a much more skilled combatant. During development stages, programming for the SC1 was cribbed off of the IG-100 MagnaGuard by Holowan Mechanicals and the BX-Series Droid Commando by Baktoid. Previous incarnations of mass-produced droid brains were incapable of holding the advanced combat algorithms held by those two droids, but the J1 rises to the challenge and then some.

The programming was suitably altered enough as to now be completely unrelated to those it was based on, though they did serve as an excellent base. This programming, having been derived from some of the most lethal droids of the era, will allow the SC1 to give the majority of organic soldiers a run for their money. The SC1 is pre-programmed with the ability to effectively wield all BlasTech and SienarTech firearms.

It is also able to effectively wield vibroswords and electrostaffs, though it isn’t recommended for the majority of combat scenarios. The ability to wield such weapons took a backseat when programming the droid, and so it cannot utilize them to the extent that a dedicated, competent swordsman could.

For added cost, the SC1 can be equipped with a personal shield of the buyer’s choosing. These can range anywhere from an environmental shield, to a Mandalorian melee shield, to a projector shield. The SC1 is, for the most part, flexible in accepting shield attachments. Individual SC1 units can be affixed with a command module, allowing it to wirelessly coordinate and lead other SC1 Droids more effectively.

Additional attachments to the SC1 include a gyroscopic stabilization system for increased strength, a sensorscope and scanner to detect and address a variety of threats, and a powerful targeting system affording it more accuracy than the standard droid.

Despite this and everything else, the droid still falls into the shortcomings of most droids. While intelligent and adaptive, outrageous, unpredictable tactics will confuse the droid and potentially lend it to destruction. Further, the SC1 boasts no protection against EMP or Ionic weaponry. The droid is also rigidly programmed for optimization with a few dozen types of weapons. Unless pre-programmed by request, SC1s will not be able to use other weapons effectively.
