Description: The idea for the SC-12 AAS Weapons Platform was spawned from the myriad close-quarters encounters that occurred during the contracted tenure aboard a now derelict Space Transport during the Galactic Alliance's compliance action in the Belsavis System. Having survived that engagement by some unknown means, the RCFC was contacted and then contracted to create this One of a Kind weapon. When the request had gone out, there were several conditions that Yun himself had asked for. It had to be Short-Barreled, built with customizable and textured grips on either end of the weapon, and finally to be folded into a compact and manageable state. It was to be based off a tried and true design of Scattergun, making the SC-12 AAS Weapon Platform an elegant, but a ruggedly simplistic weapon that was not only reliable in the midst of battle, but difficult to break.

Due to an abundance of stainless Durasteel, along with it's "Open Bolt" design and a method which provides clearance for fouling, the SC-12 lays claim to the advantage of requiring little to no cleaning or lubrication to keep the weapon in a combat capable state. However, after extended usage, a thorough cleaning is needed after an expenditure of Ten-Thousand rounds. While the Scattergun is relatively light in comparison to various Blasters and Squad-Level support weapons, and somewhat lengthy, the recoil created by the thunderous discharge was almost non-existent due to the API Blowback System and the addition of a Recoil Spring located within the detachable Stock. Meaning, with the Stock attached, the bearer could unload an entire magazine (Be it the Standard or Drum-Fed.) without experiencing a significant loss of sustained accuracy.

Coming with an attachable sling, the weapon and thus, the weight of the hefty magazines and the Scattergun itself would be distributed across the breadth of the User's Frame. Reloading the standard cartridge is where the most inherent drawback of the weapon comes into play, should the bearer not prepare additional magazines prior to combat. The standard hexagonal magazine required the user to eject the container from the Shotgun, before manually loading shells into the six chambers. It would take many hours of practice to familiarize Oneself with the bio-metrically locked cartridges, which automatically rose when the genetic material of the bearer, loaded into the onboard systems, caressed the outer casing of the various compartments.

While API blowback does reduce recoil (the wiki article states that it "halves recoil'), recoil would probably still be noticeable with a 12 gauge weapon, though it'd certainly be easier to handle than a traditional 12 gauge.

There's one other point to consider about using an open-bolt system, and that's the weight of the bolt itself. There's a reason why we mostly see blowback weapons being either very small, or very low-powered, and that's bolt weight. As the cartridge power grows, bolt weight increases exponentially. The bolt alone for this would weigh a bit over 9 pounds. If you want to get an indepth look at the physics behind this, check out this page. This doesn't make the concept undoable, but it probably means an increase in weapon weight is in order. Weight is the main reason why most semi-automatic shotguns are gas or recoil operated.

Other options to maybe consider is porting or a special type of recoil pad, but Rusty might be able to give you some other ideas to consider as well.

Heh, funnily enough my first draft of the weapon had the weight at around 16 pounds.

So, to add in what you've suggested the weight of the bolt being roughly around Nine Pounds, I'll edit the mass to be an even Seventeen pounds with the magazine included. Other than weight being an apparent issue, was there anything else that caught your eye?

I liked how it kept the Picture somewhat contained in a neat little box. If that's an issue I can take it out. Thankfully you guy's have the unlimited edit function here, the last time I made subs - the Admins forgot to enable that ability... made a horrible mess of things.
