[-] The Trials of Death: The Man in Black is not a phantom brought back from the Nine Hells, as some stories would make you believe. He is a being held to the fabrics of reality by wicked magic and alchemy, his physical form but a construct of The Force. Being said, his body is weakened when brought into close proximity with lightside nexus' or subjected to force nullifying powers and technologies.
[-] The limits of a Gift: The Gift cannot make one who is powerless, powerful. The Man in Black is forever cursed to wield no force powers of his own must rely on the harnessing of Spirit Ichor and Black Magic through ritualistic means to harness any occult power.
[-] The Leash of the Netherworld: Although The Man in Black is immune to physical fatigue and the plagues of a living existence, his body is still subject to its own limits. Pushing his physical form results in the destabilizing of the alchemy holding his spirit to the physical world. He can push harder than any living being, but doing so can see parts of his body fading to dust; never to return and can only be replaced. Extreme situations can even see his spirit forced back into the netherworld for prolonged periods of time.
[-] The Rest of the Dead: Though they feel no physical exhaustion, the reanimated must tend to their bodies and the power holding them together. Periods of rest and meditation must be taken after large amounts of damage that require the Man in Black to locate a place strong in the darkside or with close ties to the Netherworld.
APPEARANCE:
An ancient Corellian coat falls over the body of Salem at all times, a leather skin that hangs in tatters across a thin layer of green, rancid skin. A Corellian, wide brimmed hat hangs in the same state of decay as the dead skin hanging in the hollow pits where eyes have long since rotted away. With his lips receded and withered away, his teeth appear long and rodent-like; each tooth decorated by holes dug by the curse of the time spent rotting in an unmarked grave. In the withered, black tongue and under the ripped gloves you can see the insects nested in shriveled veins and crawling on atrophied muscles just beneath the translucent skin. With this dead shell concealing the soul beneath, the glowing, hellish-yellow orbs burning in the eyeless pits of his face are a blood chilling sight. Perhaps just as chilling is the tattered bandolier hanging with shining slugs and the tattered, Corellian revolver sitting in the holster that's been worn by constant withdrawal.
Corellian in life, the being known as Salem is shrouded in mystery, even partly to himself. What is known is mostly legend, brought about by years of uncertainty and fear amongst the Corellian people since the days of the Golden Age of The Republic. The Legend of The Man in Black and his Corellian Phantoms is a story that dates back to the conclusion of the Galactic Cold War and the liberation of Corellia from the Sith Empire. It is said that sometimes following the liberation, four Corellian men were killed and their bodies unallowed to be cremated and turned into Soul Diamonds by their families. The result was the return of the men as angry specters that had no memories of their life among the living and made their new purpose to torment families who neglected to turn their loved one's ashes into Soul Diamonds upon death.
This was the story concocted to scare children into honoring their parent's by making their ashes into soul diamonds after their death. But like every legend there is truth....
