SAL MALLOC

BACKGROUND

Once a small-time smuggler dealing in spice, weapons, and stolen goods between remote worlds, Sal found he had a talent for uncovering items that others had tried to conceal for ages. His first significant find was an ancient artifact he retrieved from the debris of a long-lost ruin. He sold it for enough credits to vanish for a time and became fixated on discovering the next treasure.

Now, Sal refers to himself as an archaeologist as he hops from planet to planet in pursuit of ancient ruins, hidden vaults, lost tombs, and anything else that might hold value. He is willing to work for museums, collectors, crime lords, or anyone who pays him first. Sal doesn't care much about preserving history; he simply wants to be the first to assign a price to it. His main issue is that Sal tends to take items that were concealed for very good reasons.

PERSONALITY

Sal is a smooth-talking, greedy bastard who always acts like he has a plan, even when he's making it up as he goes. He loves money, hates being cheated, and has a bad habit of taking risks when something valuable is within reach. Despite his selfish nature, he genuinely loves exploring old ruins and discovering forgotten places.

He'll crack jokes when things get tense, brag when he's nervous, and start bargaining with people who are actively trying to kill him. Sal isn't heartless, though as he has a soft spot for desperate people and will occasionally do the right thing, usually while complaining about how much it's going to cost him.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS

Smuggler's Instinct: Sal knows how to move illegal goods, find unofficial routes, hide cargo, and recognize when a situation is about to turn ugly.

Silver Tongue: He's good at bluffing, bargaining, and making people think they're getting the better deal.

Ruin Rat: Years of treasure hunting have taught him how to spot hidden compartments, traps, false walls, old markings, and valuable objects that inexperienced looters would overlook.

Fast on the Draw: Sal isn't a great soldier, but he's quick with a blaster and knows how to fight dirty when things go wrong.

WEAKNESSES

Greed Gets Him Killed: Sal knows when something is dangerous. He just doesn't always care if he thinks the payoff is big enough.

Terrible Trust: He assumes everyone is trying to cheat him because, most of the time, he is trying to cheat them.

Not a Real Archaeologist: Sal knows enough to get into trouble, but not always enough to understand what he's uncovered. His mistakes have consequences.

Can't Leave a Mystery Alone: A sealed tomb, strange artifact, or unexplained inscription will bother Sal until he investigates it even when walking away would be the sensible choice.

The Decadent Lord, a ancient Centurion-class battlecruiser, has finally reappeared. It's currently trapped in the pull of an unnamed black hole in the Unknown Regions, slowly breaking apart while salvage crews and rival factions race to claim its cargo before gravity destroys it all.

The ship is a massive prize. Its bays still hold six heavy dropships, a complement of Blade-class fighters, and two to four war behemoths. Further down, the main cargo hold is packed with raw Lignan ore, industrial mining gear, and invasion supplies, while an intact Massassi armory houses stacks of tremor swords, lanvaroks, shields, armor, and boarding gear.

Past the standard bays, the cruiser turns into a dark Sith stronghold. Near the bridge lies a ritual focusing chamber, followed by an alchemical lab and a beast hold still guarded by living, loyal Massassi. Scattered nearby are several lesser artifacts, including a Force mask, an officer's Sith sword, an alchemical poison kit, a pair of talismans, and an ancestral funerary mask.

At the heart of the vessel are its most dangerous secrets. Secured deep within the hull is a Sith holocron, protected by physical locks and dark side wards. Below that sits a sealed forbidden deck, welded shut to contain whatever is left inside whether that's a failed experiment, a dormant beast, a cursed relic, or the commander's tomb.

You have a singular opportunity to retrieve what you can from the debris before it is lost to the black hole eternally. It's a race against time to fend off your competitors and obtain the price you wish from the holds.

Sal tightened his hold on his heavy blaster while checking his data pad for details. He had opened Doctor Sam Witten's So You Want to Be an Archaeologist during his journey as a quick refresher for his archaeology career, even though he wasn't officially certified by any University. He considered them pointless, believing that hands-on skills and knowledge would always be more valuable than sitting in a dusty lecture hall.

The first page advised him to observe his surroundings for any useful information on the hunt, but all he saw were endless corridors stretching for miles across multiple decks, slowly being torn apart by the black hole outside, much to his annoyance. He flipped the page with one finger and read that shouting loudly could help identify if any enemies were nearby.

He thought of a humorous line and finally decided to shout, "Who forgot to pay the light bill?" down the corridor, listening for the echo of his own voice. So far, this book felt like a total waste of time, but he continued reading to avoid boredom as he walked.

He sensed the gravity warping the hull around him, causing slight tremors on the floor as he balance himself. He tucked the pad under his arm, checked the the ammunition level on his blaster, and glanced down the flickering hallway toward the main bays.
