- Deployable Shield Unit. With the press of a button a large deflector shield materializes to defend against blaster fire, small arms and equivalent weapons.
- Mobile. Internal anti-grav mechanisms allow for to be move around relatively easily for short periods of time.
- The unit itself is relatively small, while the shield projection can cover a comfortable amount of space. Enough for several men to take cover behind it.
- Mobile.
- One-way. It blocks fire from one direction, but lets it through from the defender-side. The sole exception are projectile weapons. The shield has specific 'firing slots' that can briefly be opened to allow projectile fire to move through. Of course, in those moments it is also possible for the other side to get through.
- Anti-grav only works in areas where there is gravity. This means that if there isn't, it has to be moved physically.
- Not effective against prolonged heavy assaults. It can take only a few rockets or similar damage, before it disables itself temporarily.
- Vulnerable to ion. A direct hit will temporarily disable the shield and leave the troopers behind it exposed.
The S1 Mobile Shield Unit was one of the first pieces of equipment that Didact began producing in-house rather than have it be manufactured elsewhere. It was designed specifically to the needs and desire of the troops in the field, keyed to their tactics and preferences. It is relatively small, cheap to deploy, it can take a punch that would otherwise be aimed for a trooper themselves and it still allows for return fire without issue.
The one shift from contemporary tech was the integration of anti-grav mechanisms to allow for easier ways to push deeper into enemy territory and hold the ground. Sadly this only works in areas with gravity, because of limits of physics and the way the anti-grav functions. It isn't meant as a permanent heavy fortification, instead the idea was to set-up quick mobile defense points that can be easily moved up as the tide of battle shifts in favor of Didact.
It won't be tanking heavy artillery or anything of the sort.
Instead it's mostly focused on giving an edge against personal-grade weaponry.
