Intent: To develop a repair droid for dealing with large scale damage on ships.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Apoleia Inc
Model: S-Class Claptrap
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: No
Production: Mass
Material: Arginium, Alusteel
Description: Connected to a ships mainframe, the Claptrap is alerted when any major damage occurs on a ship and deploys immediately to begin repairs. This means that the repair droid are often seen in the battle field, trying to patch hull breaches and as such, requires a shield to allow it to complete its work. That being said, the repairs that can be completed while on the battlefield are minimal. It's a case of patch it up quickly, and get clear so full repairs can be completed.

As materials are not often to hand to repair a ship, the droid will also scan the area and salvage what material it can to make a temporary repair until better materials can be sourced. If a temporary repair still hasn't been fixed when the ship jumps to a new location, the droids will deploy and search the system for salvage until full repairs can be complete.

To protect its instruments and allow it to reach its designated repair location faster, the outer sections of the droid draw together for a more streamlined design, opening once they begin repairs to reveal four arms with various tools. To avoid disruption to in flight repairs, the Claptrap deploys a claw cable to fix itself to the ship while its working.

Classification: Second Degree
Weight: 40kg

  • Suggestion: Perhaps have some limited material stored on the droid for emergency situations, such as a hull breach. Define how much material if you can. I mean we know it wouldn't be able to repair catastrophic damage.
  • I think actual battlefield effects should be minimized, rerouting electronics and components on bypass is viable and works great, but eventually it's going to be like: "I can't do much more!"
  • What are the effects of general movement versus sudden acceleration, maneuvering and such? How does it stay attached to the vessel in combat?

Edited to try and expand further on the points. I haven't put any material storage on the droid because I don't think the design itself can encompass storage.
