Intent: To create a unique, specialized bomber weapon to be used against escort/capital ship targets for the Republic
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Tenloss Corporation, BlasTech
Model: RST-B1 Weapon System
Affiliation: Affiliation: Galactic Republic, Open Market
Modularity: Yes, the weapon can be armed with a Fusion Warhead, a Proton Warhead, or an Ion Warhead.
Production: Mass
Material: Alusteel, Missile engine, and other missile construction materials
Description:

Realizing that most navies and tactics had become set across the galaxy, it was decided to "shake things up" in a way by designing a new and unusual weapon for effective use on the battlefield that could radically change space fighter combat against larger ships.

Enter the RST-B1 Weapon System. The RST-B1 is both a simple yet complex weapon system designed to be carried by Republic Bombers in the field. The weapon is simply a very large, very high warhead yield missile attached to the underside of the star bomber that is fired at the target ship. On impact, the heavy warhead detonates against the target ship's hull or shields causing massive amounts of damage (depending on the warhead and target shields/armor) to the enemy ship. The ability to deal a devastating strike in one pass allows the weapon system to make up for a bomber unable to carry more than one RST-B1 as well as making up for the missile's relatively slow speed. All in all, the weapon system was deemed a success, though it was noted that at longer ranges, the missile was easier to target by enemy defensive weapons. However, rather than attempting to redesign the weapon system, new tactics evolved where bombers fired off the RST-B1 missile at closer ranges, increasing the odds of a nasty hit on the enemy.

Bombers using the RST-B1 can only mount the lone missile itself and no other weapons. This is both due to the size of the warhead, as it blocks standard missile tubes, and the weight of the warhead, the mass of the RST-B1 plus all the warhead launchers and ammunition would slow the bomber down to the point of uselessness.

Classification: Missile
Size: Starfighter Mounted
Status: Military
Length: 4m
Weight: 1,000kg
Ammunition Type: Ion Bomb, Fusion Bomb, Proton Bomb (Depending on the variant used)
Ammunition Capacity: 1 (it is the ammunition and the weapon combined)
Effective Range: 7,500m
Equivalent: The entire warhead launcher and ammunition count on a bomber (2 Warhead Launcher Tubes with 8 Missiles each)

Couple of questions, and these question will not necessarily affect the approve/deny decision because there's technically nothing wrong with the submission. They are more questions for more context/clarification/satisfaction of my curiosity. :)

1) Why can't more than one bomb be mounted a bomber?

2) Why or how does this radically change naval tactics? I.e., how is this the idea of delivering a singular, large, payload in this fashion different in tactical considerations than the more common delivery of multiple proton torpedoes (or the like) by fighters?

One question that does affect the approval of the submission:

1) Can you give a comparison to the weapon's payload (i.e., damage potential) compared to canon weapons? It doesn't have to be an exact mathematical comparison, but something would be helpful. "The damage caused can exceed that of a full broadside by an Imperial Star Destroyer", for example. (That's obviously too extreme. :) ) I ask because "massive amounts of damage" is far too vague/subjective and can be interpreted differently by different people.

Please tag me in your reply. Thanks! :)

Mkay, answer time :)

1) The missile is supposed to consolidate the entire warhead payload and launchers together into one warhead so it made sense to do it that way as it was to consolidate those weapons.

2) The concept is based off of torpedo bombers from WWII. Dive bombers could hit the target, but the bombs didn't have the same level of damage potential as a torpedo. Torpedo planes were designed that could drop a torpedo in the water and punch a hole into the target below the water line. Since torpedoes had a far more devastating payload in total, it became a common tactic to use them against the larger ships to sink them faster. I decided to try and apply that and realized that there aren't really any SW weapon systems that are similar, so I figured I'd make one. Sure, there's no water to make the ship sink, but the larger payload missile offsets that lacking area through raw damage.

3) the total combined value of damage potential is equivalent to the two warhead launchers and 8 missiles/proton torpedoes for each tube, as per the 2.0 ship guide.

Okay, sounds good. Can you add your explanation of Point 1 into your description please? I think it's a good clarification for what the warhead system is and is a good addition to the description.

Also, can you work Point 3 into your submission? If it doesn't fit as an IC-fluff inclusion, you can list it in the "stats" section.
