Lan-Dai Navras
Character
Lately he had been doing a lot of traveling, spending very little time on any given planet or city in his search for Aren. However, the time spent thus far had proven to be fruitful, as he had met several whom he began to consider allies, a step was provided that would lead him to the answers he had sought.
The Emerallian Jedi, Lan-Dai Navras, Senior Padawan, had been receiving non-linear visions through the Force, and through one of those visions, Lan-Dai was pointed in a direction that would serve to look for answers. Reaching the hangar, Lan-Dai took out his commlink and addressed his trusted droid. “R8, open the cockpit and start the engines.” Lan-Dai ordered serenely as he made his way towards his fighter. The cockpit opened not long before he arrived at the fighter, and the engines were already on, ready for takeoff. Somersaulting neatly into the pilot’s seat, Lan-Dai put on his headset as the cockpit closed and the fighter began to take flight. “R8, set a course for Obroa-Skai..” Lan-Dai said as he steered the fighter out into open space.
Flying out of orbit, the fighter did not take long in making the hyperdrive jump to reach Obroa-Skai. Approaching the planet, Lan-Dai began to perceive a distortion, a displacement, a mild vértigo. Reaching the planet's skyline, Lan-Dai flew looking to feel through the Force where it was that he was to search. Suddenly a flash, a split-second visión of a temple. The same temple that lay ahead of them, Lan-Dai quickly landed the fighter at the front of the desolate location. Having already donned his armor and cloak, Lan-Dai braced himself as he somersaulted out of the cockpit. Putting on his helmet, Lan-Dai paused to survey the immediate surroundings. “Stay here, wait for orders…” Lan-Dai said to his loyal astromech as he ventured forth. With each step forward, Lan-Dai tangibly felt a tangible pulse of vertigo that only intensified with each step. Reaching the main doorway, Lan-Dai extended his hand out towards the door and reached outwards with the orce. In that moment, another vision appeared before him. The man whom he now knew to be his ancestor, was opening the same doorway in the same fashion. Next to him was his Iktotchi apprentice, the ancestor of his own master, long since dissappeared. The vision faded as the door opened, a sigh of sepulcural air escaped from within. Lan-Dai was not prepared for what lay beyond this threshold.
Making his way into the temple, Lan-Dai took notice of the inner markings on the walls. "R8....." Lan-Dai called as the astromech popped out of his slot in the fighter. "Record these markings, I want them analyzed." In the midst of his directions a faint gust was heard and felt, it then repeated itself from another direction, only stronger and accompanied by a light voice, barely above a whisper. Instinctively Lan-Dai pulled out both his blasters, concealed within his cloak. However, reminding himself where he was, the Emerallian holstered and instead took his lightsaber in hand, yet didn't ignite it. Pressing onwards, Lan-Dai heard a voice similar to his own, yet deeper and aged. Whether the voice came from within his mind or his ears or not, Lan-Dai could not tell, yet the voice seemed to be leading him past the large and abandoned halls towards somewhere. At first walking, but then running as both the voice and the sense of displacement became stronger the futher inwards Lan-Dai went in the direction he was led. Reaching what seemed to be a central chamber, Lan-Dai stepped towards an altar that lay at the heart of the room. As he stepped into the square on which the altar stood, the floor dropped violently for a few seconds before halting just as brusquely. One of the many arches surrounding him with live-size statues was not a dead end. Using a gentle Force push, the statue seemed to comply and move to the side allowing for free passage.
Passing through the narrow tunnel that bent as it took him downwards, Lan-Dai found himself in yet another chamber, this one was missing the central floor. Looking up, there was a large, heavy wooden beam that held the central ceiling in place, diagonally placed by a wall. Directly along the same side on which the beam was coming from, was a large stone pyre that somehow managed to retain its fire even after being sealed for centuries. There were tracks that held the pyre in place, and only allowed it to move in its axis. Another Force push was all it took to move the pyre under the beam's origin place, causing the beam to catch fire. In minutes, the whole beam went up in flames, and gave way to both the fire below and the weight above. The beam no longer there, the floor dropped violently once more and snapped into place. Once more walking towards the center square, Lan-Dai noticed that the floor that dropped was in fact an interlock to the part of the floor that was already there. On opposite ends there were two insignias, one that was strange to him, yet the other seemed more familiar. Once more the Emerallian received a vision, his ancestor coming out of a concealed stairway where he stood, and bringing up the stairs to become part of the floor over the same insignia, as the Iktotchi Padawan did the same on the opposite side. Reaching out to the Force once more, Lan-Dai looked to reconfigure the floor. It took some doing, but it was finally done, and the floor gave way to form the stairs he saw. Taking a breath bevore venturing forth, Lan-Dai began to both feel the vertigo and hear the voice even stronger, and they were coming from the threshold he was about to cross. Lightsaber in hand, Lan-Dai walked slowly towards whatever lay in wait ahead of him in the dim light. Reaching yet another chamber, Lan-Dai saw what looked either like an altar or a shrine, perhaps both. As he stepped forward, the chamber's lights brightened, and the vertigo took full force. A small chest undid itself in front of him, revealing the source of the displacement. An open manacle, finely adorned and carved, was vibrating slightly as he neared. Removing his helmet, Lan-Dai lost control of himself as he involuntarily began moving closer to the altar, and to the manacle, which began to vibrate harder. Somehow, Lan-Dai was now being led by the Force as the manacle leaped from its place in the altar and latched itself onto the gauntlet on his right forearm.
Sparks flew as the manacle clasped shut over the duraplast gauntlet, the impact strong enough to knock the lightsaber from his hand. Bursts of golden lightning flooded the chamber as the manacle's carvings began to glow, Lan-Dai clutched his wrist as a surge of energy overflowed within, yet not being released. The sensation was uncomfortable, it felt as if his forearm would explode. When it reached a point where he could stand no more, Lan-Dai instinctively stretched his hand towards the shrine. As he did, a burst of golden lightning escaped, merging with the barrage that now surrounded the chamber. As the lightning went from his hand Lan-Dai felt the sensation decrease, and cease altogether. The lightning receded with a jerk, and Lan-Dai quickly lost consciousness as he slumped to the floor. Its new owner unconscious, the manacle now glowed fully as its purpose began to unveil.
"Arise......" a voice called out from beyond awareness. When Lan-Dai awoke, he found himself surrounded in neither darkness nor light. Before him stood the Jedi that he had seen in vision for months now. "I had hoped that this day would never come..... if you are here, and the manacle has bonded with you, then it means that a fear of mine has come to pass.... It also means that a burden now rests on your shoulders, and I am he who has placed it upon you...".
"Who are you?" Lan-Dai asked, undaunting.
"I am Deo-Law Navras.... Jedi Master..... Your ancestor... I am more than certain that you found your way here guided by the Force. I am just as certain that you have questions as to what you have been seeing lately, but first tell me who you are...."
"I am Lan-Dai, Lan-Dai Navras...... Looks like I'm your descendant. Now tell me, why am I here?"
"You are here because of an ancient evil, an evil that I once fought against, and defeated. His name is Volgang Hawool, a Jedi Master who turned from the path of the Jedi Order by greed, and lust for power. Myself and my apprentice, Tehlo-Rix Altor, fought him many times across the galaxy. We defeated, and imprisoned him. To make sure that he would not present any more threats he was frozen, where it was hoped he would remain suspended forever. If you are here, Lan-Dai, that can only mean one thing..... Volgang has been freed, and now seeks vengeance and who knows what else..." Deo-Law paused, an apologetic look across his face. "Lan-Dai, I now ask you to end what I began. Defeat Volgang, make sure that he may threaten no one else."
Listening quietly, Lan-Dai pondered on the words of his ancestor. "If only Tiro-Narus were here, I would have a better idea of what to do.". Lan-Dai's uncertainty began to surface, this was too much for him to take.
"I apologize for placing this burden on you, Lan-Dai, but there is no one else. I do not know if you are ready for such a task, but unfortunately both you and I have run out of time." Deo-Law paused once more, his look now more determined, mirroring Lan-Dai's default. "Come with me, Lan-Dai. I will train you in the short time that I am allowed to hold you here. By the time we return, eight of your days will have passed.."
Lan-Dai followed his forefather, and underwent training....
8 days later, Lan-Dai emerged from the temple, the golden manacle still clasped over his gauntlet. R8 was patiently waiting by the fighter, and beeped enthusiastically at seeing his owner. Opening the cockpit, R8 started the engines as Lan-Dai somersaulted inside. The cockpit closed, the fighter now flying out of Obroa-Skai and into open space. Lan-Dai said nothing as Deo-Law's last words echoed in his mind....
"This manacle is your link to me, as it is my link to you. Keep it close to you at all times, I will emerge when there is need, you have only to call. Remember, Lan-Dai, Volgang is an exceptionally powerful and dangerous adversary. Volgang is arguably one of the more demanding opponents you will face, and to defeat him, you must go beyond victory......"
This was a lot to ponder as Lan-Dai once more returned to his search with a new worry to deal with. In the midst of his pondering, his thoughts were interrupted by an incoming transmission.
"Who could this be???"
He would find out the hard way.
