The Tormaine Mayoral mansion was abuzz with activity. The ancestral home of House Nylarr was to be host to a grand soirée on the eve of the head of the household, Serala Nylarr becoming an adult and taking her place as the official Lady Mayor of Tormaine. This may not be a long-term thing. There was a good chance that she would give the mantle up to her brother in ten years or so. Her uncle, Vorlag, still favored his prized student though, so perhaps House Nylarr would spurn its traditions and accept a female head. In soft whispers and secret training sessions Serala was told by her uncle she would be Queen one day. Perhaps that was when she would hand over Tormaine to her younger sibling, when she had all of Lazerian to rule.
Though Serala was greatly beginning to doubt her time as Queen was going to come, as her distant cousin Caelan Valoren had taken up the crown of the Kingdom of Devit. That was another bittersweet pill for Serala. While she did not truly feel the Obsidian Syndicate belonged on Lazerian IV, while they were in command Tormaine prospered more than ever. And when they had chased off the true heirs to the throne, the small amount of royal blood that Serala had in her veins could have been enough for her to take over. Now the Valoren had come back to power and been the ones to rid the planet of the Obsidians.
But Serala couldn't focus on that now. Things were in motion. Her training and making her own mark on Tormaine was what was important. Her cousin had started making decisions for the whole of the planet. He had removed them from the Galactic Alliance. A choice that Serala would have gladly supported, but the fact that it was made without consideration from the rest of the planet's nobles was something that Serala might have to make a deal about that if these things continued. That would take time, however. For now, she needed to be seen as the person who ran things here in Tormaine.
Her outfit and all the other adornments were now ready for Serala to make her grand entrance. She did stop at the doorway and waited for her maid to confirm that all was in order. The new Lady Mayor of Tormaine then gave a nod which was passed along. Trumpeting music started as Serala made her way into the main hall of the Mayoral Mansion. She held her head high as the herald called out her name and her new title that she would officially take when the next day started. For all she knew this party would still be going on then. Her uncle stood tall next to the mayor's seat. Serala strode confidently down the aisle way. She reached the seat she had sat in many times before only to have her uncle hand out rulings in her stead. Tomorrow her life began for real. Tonight was her opportunity to prove to the galaxy that she had arrived.
"Friends, family, and honored guests. Welcome. To say I'm overwhelmed would be an understatement, but it's not from the weight of what this day means. It's from the sight of all of your faces gathered here. I see the people who have watched me grow, who have guided me, and who have been my companions through childhood. Thank you for being here to celebrate with me.
For eighteen years, I have been the daughter of this house. Today, I stand before you not just as a daughter, but as the head of the house. I know I have much to learn, but I am ready to face the challenges ahead. I am ready to lead with the wisdom passed down to me and with the strength I have found within myself.
This is a new chapter for me, and for our house. It is my deepest wish to honor the legacy of those who came before me while also forging a new path. A path that is prosperous, just, and filled with compassion for all.
Thank you again for sharing in this momentous day. Now, let us eat, drink, and be merry!"
