STRENGTHS
- The ring allows you to mentally/spiritually enter the Drengir Root-Mind, the collective unconscious of the Drengir. Either within the Root-Mind or in waking life, you may see visions and gain knowledge of the Drengir, effectively eavesdropping on their intentions. You might also get visions of other mental/spiritual planes, which has its uses.
- Much tougher than wood should be.
- Contact with the Root-Mind gives the Drengir your 'scent.' The more you engage with the Root-Mind, the more they will prioritize you as a target. In the end, they pursue you constantly.
- At any point, when you are wearing the ring, you may find yourself unexpectedly drawn into or overwhelmed by the Root-Mind as your body falls limp. This could happen at the most inconvenient times. Enter the Root-Mind often enough and you might find that this happens even if you aren't wearing the ring.
- You might be tempted to think you can use the ring to help you control or befriend or confuse the Drengir. You can't. The Drengir and their hive-mind are too strong, too driven, too smart, too implacable, no matter how good you are at dominating or befriending. They see you and they want what they see: nutrition.
- Beware: you may see what the Drengir wish you to see. It's not unusual for those who think they're eavesdropping on the Drengir or seeing secret visions to be drawn into a trap or otherwise deceived.
Ashin and the Aksifas developed this ring as a door into the Root-Mind. After only three visits, Ashin found that the Drengir had developed a taste for her. They would pursue and attack her no matter where she went. She could mitigate this constant pursuit temporarily by concealing her Force presence through various means, but the 'curse' was, so far as she could tell, permanent. By this point she had already gone into the Root-Mind with more than a dozen other individuals, including some Aksifas researchers who did not survive the experience — or its aftermath.
