Rick Kaloo in the command bridge of Destiny, one of his former flagships.
HISTORY
RICK KALOO was born in a small surface city on Dac, the homeworld of the Mon Calamari. His mother was Joa [JO-AH] Kaloo, a nurse at a local medical center. His father was Ast [AH-ST] Kaloo, a lawyer.
From an early age, Ast tried to influence Rick to follow in his footsteps and become a lawyer, blocking out most other ideas. He often lectured his son about the importance of hard work and constant determination. Rick's father also invested into giving Rick as much as an education as possible, from private schooling to filling as much of his bookshelves as possible with guides to math, science, business, and law. But despite
the pressure Ast put on his son, he still cared for him deeply and knew not to overwork Rick. In fact, Ast and Rick would sometimes go to underwater reserves and perform recreational shooting. At first, Rick would simply watch and learn from Ast's example, but eventually, he would learn to wield a rifle and shoot alongside his dad.
On the other hand, Joa Kaloo was close to the opposite of her husband. While Ast could be strict and enforcing, Joa was gentle and kind. She was usually outspoken by Rick's father, but when it was just her and Rick, she took control. Joa was in charge of ensuring Rick made new friends in school and answering any questions Rick had about his body [which lead to many awkward conversations]. She comforted Rick during his worst days and baked some of the best pastries he had ever eaten. Being a nurse, Joa often gave free checkups for her son, ensuring that he would always be healthy and fit.
In Rick's early teens, he began to reconsider his father's plan and instead plotted to be an engineer. Later on, his view expanded to the production of spaceships, dreaming of making corvettes that would be remembered and used for centuries. When Rick was seventeen years old, he brought his idea up to his father, along with a strong argument for his choice. While Rick had feared his father would experience backlash toward such an idea, Ast accepted that he could not change his son's views, and began to loosen his grip on his son's education as he approached college. His only condition would be that Rick would have to report to Ast his progress twice a year.
Rick entered college a year later, taking plenty of his mother's pastries along with him. Nine difficult years later, Rick graduated with degrees in spaceship engineering and business. Along with some of his longtime friends, Rick started a company he called Ne-Cal Military Space Engineering.
[Entering Active Roleplay Timeline]
A decade later, Rick's company was thriving. Its first product, the Essex-class starfighter killer, was massively successful, increasing NCMSE stocks substantially. The company continued churning out more vessels, from the nimble Lekai-class scoutship to the updated Pelta-II medical frigate.
But what was likely the biggest success in the company's history is when Rick Kaloo miraculously won the intersystem lottery, earning ownership to a towering complex known as The Blade. It was quickly repurposed into a massive production facility and the headquarters of Ne-Cal.
Rick signed a deal with the Galactic Alliance, giving his company a massive new market. Also, Rick agreed with many of the Alliance's ideas, and felt that contributing Ne-Cal vessels to their war effort would be a great help to restore peace. Shortly after the contract was signed, Rick joined the Alliance navy, seeking to maintain peace throughout the galaxy.
At first, he was a flawed officer, losing two frigates to the enemy. Once, on Hoth, he failed to safely engage a much larger First Order vessel, and was consequently bombarded into submission. However, most of Rick's crew were able to escape before the ship blew up. At L-49, he sacrificed his entire starfighter compliment and frigate in a ramming maneuver which proved to have only limited success. Most of the escape pods were captured by the First Order shortly after they were jettisoned. Rick was being taken captive by the Order when the destruction of the Itsukusk allowed him enough time to escape in a stolen shuttle.
Afterward, Rick felt extreme guilt for his actions. He mourned the deaths of his crews and considered resigning. Therefore, he took a brief break from the war and attended a Dominion-held party, hoping to forget all that had happened. While he was there, he nearly succeeded.
But a skirmish with the Sith Empire, followed by an Imperial skirmish, ruined his solace. Returning with a larger fleet and more cautious tactics, he engaged the enemy in support of Alliance forces without losing a single ship.
In the meantime, NCMSE was expanding rapidly. It was now producing not only warships of increasing scale, but also turbolaser batteries and even armored ground vehicles. As production of the latter began, the company's name was changed to Ne-Cal Military Engineering, as its products were now not restricted to spacegoing equipment.
Before Rick could settle in with his company's new progress, there were two more battles. One was an assault on the First Order, and one was a defense against it. Once again, not a single ship in Rick's fleet was lost. But after this, Rick felt a new kind of guilt. He felt that he could have contributed more to the Alliance, and that he was holding himself back. Therefore, he went into exile, taking his fleet with him and managing his company from afar. Rick hoped to learn more about being a good leader and cast away the two extremes of his guilt.
[~8 month AFK period]
When Rick returned, he was horrified at what he saw. The Galactic Alliance was on its last legs, weakened by a great betrayal in the New Jedi Order. Additionally, its enemies in the form of the First Order and the multitude of malevolent Empires grew ever stronger, chipping away at the Alliance's military and political strength.
Rick returned to Mon Calamari, where he gathered multiple new Ne-Cal vessels and integrated them into his fleet. Fearing that he was no longer safe on his home planet, Rick took his warships into the Outer Rim, where it was rumored that surviving Alliance admirals were establishing a fleet. As with his period of exile, Rick lead NCME from the bridge of his flagship, ensuring that new products could still be produced. Now, more than ever, his military and business lives were colliding.
After months of exile, Rick received a distress call from the Silver Jedi Order, old allies of the Alliance. Rick dispatched what remained of his once mighty fleet, including one of the last Star Destroyers in Alliance service. Arriving at the scene, he found a Mandalorian blockade established over the Umbara system. He engaged the south section of the fleet, but not without losing his third flagship as the enemy's Star Destroyer slammed into it.
Left incapacitated and with his legs rendered permanently useless, Rick lay unconscious in space. However, it was there where he experienced his first ever Force vision. In an experience Rick could likely never explain in his lifetime, he had become Force-sensitive. Immediately, he was recovered by the Silver Jedi Order and recruited.
Despite his guilt in leaving the GADF, Rick still took up the Jedi path. He moved on from basic Youngling teachings to those of Padawans, being a quick learner. As Rick's Force prowess grew, he began to be able to move as fast as he could in his twenties, training easing his stress-induced aging. Rick began to specialize in waterbending, a unique and rare elemental skill. Being an aquatic species, he learned especially fast, and could soon manipulate even humid air to his will.
Eventually, Rick was granted a naval position, and granted command of an entire fleet as recognition for his work in the former Alliance. He began organizing it into a powerful workforce, capable of engaging foes in any scenario.
In the meantime, Rick's company was continuing to have huge successes, bringing in the Twinkie-class light cruiser into SJO service. Taking advantage of the profits, Ne-Cal Military Engineering was decided to be completely reordered. It was renamed to Outer Rim to reflect its increasing influence over the area, and numerous facilities of growing sizes were dedicated to the company.
But perhaps their most ambitious product was Pickle Rick, a colossal warship meant to lead Rick's Sixth Fleet into battle. After only five years, the ship was completed in the dreadnought-building facilities of Centurion Station. At the time of its completion, it was the third largest ship in the Silver Jedi Order, and likely the largest battlecruiser of all time. Considered to be nearly unbeatable, Pickle Rick was employed into the Sixth Fleet.
But before it could see action, Mon Calamari was sieged by the Sith Empire. Fearing that his company's massive corporate headquarters could be repurposed to make Sith dreadnoughts, Rick reluctantly destroyed it with the help of multiple Jedi pilots. He picked up his parents and had them flee the world, splitting up to help his people. While he fought valiantly and slew nearly a dozen Sith, Rick was eventually overwhelmed by giant Sithspawn and rapidly spreading toxins, fleeing his homeworld. He vowed that he would return and have his revenge.
