SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Respite
  • Classification: Refugee Village
  • Location: Refuge
  • Affiliation: The Dauntless Few, Order of Outcasts
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: Humans, Mirialan, Twi'lek, Nautolan, Mon Calamari, Querm Rybet, Roria Gungans, Smarteelian Zabrak, Mud-Walkers, Stone-Watchers, B'omarr brain walker
  • Wealth: Low: The majority of those dwelling in Respite have fled from the war-torn Galactic Core and have lost everything. Respite is a rural settlement, a place where people go to heal from their losses and rebuild themselves.
  • Stability: High: The village is a quiet place. A lone, watchful temple occupied by Jedi warriors keeps the settlement safe. The natural difficulty posed in reaching Refuge insulates the village from the majority of dangers. Having just lost their homes to war and conflict, the people of Respite are eager to live lives free of violence and turmoil. Crime is thusly frowned upon.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Society is simple and clean. Broken down to the roots, civilization is simplified to agrarian living, trade and barter, and law by populism. The Jedi present within the village oversee defense and mediate grievances between individuals. Punishment, should it be necessary, is typically repaid by community service, though in extreme cases through exile. Having once had access to a great deal of technology in the core, many must now live less technological lives.
  • Description: A rural village with traditional architecture, the majority of buildings constructed from locally sourced Mangrove wood. It's a large urban complex surrounded on all sides by mountains. In the center of the village is a temple structure, an ancient place constructed by the Rakata which has been clensed and repurposed into a Jedi Temple. A wooden structure has been constructed around the ancient form of the Temple. Towers featuring B'omarr Order architectural styles surround the perimeter of the village. The monk's brain walker droids still inhabit these towers.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Respite Jedi Temple: The Respite Jedi Temple is the home of the Order of Outcasts, a collection of Jedi gathered and lead by former New Jedi Order councilman Master Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el for the purposes of managing the security of Refuge in light of the incoming wave of refugees fleeing the Galactic Empire. It was once a Rakatan laboratory facility made to study the Force, which Jasper and his allies cleansed of it's Darkside presence. Facilities within the Temple include the following:
    • Underground Gardens
    • Halls of Healing
    • Hangar
    • Training Halls
    • Living Quarters (Divided into Padawans, Knights and Masters, and Younglings respectively)
    • Mess Hall
    • Forge
    • Town Hall: This is an open space in the front of the Temple, right behind the circular doorway that serves as the entrance. This is the space where the Order of Outcasts mediates village gatherings for a myriad of services. This is seen as the primary administrative space of the village.
    • Council Chambers: The space at the furthest depth under the village, directly under the Town Hall. This is where the Order of Outcasts' acting council gathers on occasion for only the most critical of reasons. By design, it's separation from the village discourages use, as the majority of decisions can be made comfortably in the Town Hall. This also encourages local collaboration.
  • B'omarr Quarter: A collection of B'omarr structures at the North end of the village. These structures are several hundred years old, established by B'omarr refugees that still dwell within. The B'omarr tolerate others who choose to take up residence within their towers. As such, a community of those who can look past the brain walkers has formed within these structures.
  • Toth's Landing: The village's primary starship landing platform. It was established and named after a Jedi Knight, Seydan Toth.
  • Agricultural District: A maintained floodplain where the majority of produce is grown.
  • Market District: A bustling street market where goods are traded between the residents of Respite and merchants from villages across the ring.
  • Cave of Stars: A small cavern on the outskirts of the town where kyber can naturally be found. Jedi Younglings travel to this place to receive their crystals so they can construct their very first lightsabers.
  • Planetary Shield Generator: A SLD-26 planetary shield generator has been brought to increase the security of the planet is located here, where it is maintained by the Order of Outcasts. It is located on the Southern edge of the village.

SECURITY
High: Security comes primarily from the remote nature of Refuge as a planet. The artificial ring world that the village sits on is insulated by a neighboring Black Hole, which makes travel into the system extremely difficult. Alongside this, the settlement is naturally protected by the Jedi of the Order of Outcasts, who have their own detachment of Temple Guards. A SLD-26 planetary shield generator has been brought to increase planetary security and also protects the village.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In 24,500 BBY, Refuge would be completely cut off from the Rakatan Infinite Empire following the arrival of ZX-44A, the blackhole which insulates the planet from external harm. This triggers a dark age where little information is retained, and it is in this period where the village of Respite is founded. Best estimates from village lorekeepers puts the foundation at roughly 1000 BBY, following the arrival of monks from the B'omarr Order. These monks are widely credited as the very first residents of the village, and their hospitality to those seeking shelter is widely credited as what kick-started development. Like other settlements on Refuge with a long history, those with the Force are held in high regard and looked to for leadership, a trend that followed a mythologized conflict between villages that featured a warlord remembered as Lok the Repugnant and a Jedi-like figure called the Sunny Woman. As time progressed, refugee settlers would continue to arrive and grow the village.

Around 900 ABY, the village would see an influx of refugee settlers would be pushed out of the Core Worlds by the conquest of the Galactic Empire within the heart of the Galactic Alliance. These people would be trailed by Jedi Master Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el and a few of his allies. Once on Refuge, Jasper Kai'el would begin gathering Force sensitives together to establish a comprehensive Jedi outpost to defend those seeking respite from the carnage of the war. These Jedi would call themselves the Order of Outcasts, clensing an ancient Rakatan structure within the center of Respite village to found their new home. The people of Respite, many looking upon the Force favorably, turned to these Jedi for protection and leadership. Now they must manage an increasingly pressing crisis as Refuge becomes the destination for those fleeing the Galactic Empire's wrath.
