Affiliation: The Underground and affiliates
Manufacturer: Incom Corporation; some components by Silk Holdings
Modularity: Laser cannons can be swapped out for basic ion cannons or mass drivers; rotary ion cannon can be swapped out for long-range/specialty sensor modules or other available bolt-on modules
Production: Minor
Material: Titanium hull, glasteel viewports
Classification: Gunship
Length: 18m
Height: 9m
Width: 21m

Armament:

  • Silk QQ-T-05 "Hushaby" rotary ion cannon x 1, chin mount

  • Laser cannon x 4, wingtip mount, adjustable convergence

  • Flex-tube warhead launcher x 2, nose mount (each launcher's warhead count: 4 concussion missiles, 3 proton torpedos, 3 mag pulse missiles, 2 brilliant missiles, or 1 proton rocket)
Squadron Count: Deploys in flights of 6

Special Features:

Maneuverability Rating: 4
Speed Rating: 5
Hyperdrive Class: 3.5

Strengths:

  • Good fire concentration

  • Starfighter-scale maneuverability, bomber-scale speed

  • Intuitive transition for snubfighter-trained pilots

  • Good shields

  • Effectively untraceable medium-long-range communications; navicomputer data easily wiped

  • Very straighforward to maintain and repair
Weaknesses:

  • Very low warhead capacity for a gunship, no turrets; incapable of many traditional gunship mission profiles

  • Slow hyperdrive

  • Relatively light and modular spaceframe leads to lower effective armor ratings; shape not conducive to structural durability

  • S-foils constantly in attack position; can cause atmospheric difficulties at high speed; increased landing precision/assistance required

Description: The RebelX was the brainchild of the Underground's General Jorus Merrill, a longtime snubfighter pilot, starship designer, and Incom fan. Looking for something heavier than his E-25, but easily learned by pilots used to S-foil-equipped snubfighters, he drafted the main elements of the RebelX in consultation with his wife, the shipwright Alna Merrill, and then presented the project to a secret Incom design team. The main design emphasis of the RebelX project was ease and cheapness of maintenance and repair. The RebelX is highly modular: most of its active and passive components, if damaged, can be unbolted, unplugged, and replaced with minimal fuss. This modularity extends to certain structural elements, increasing ease of replacement for damaged or missing wings, engines, and even entire cockpit modules. When necessary, techs have found it relatively easy to bolt on cannons from other manufacturers. This design emphasis comes at a cost: the RebelX is not especially durable once its shields are down.

The RebelX can operate for an average of one standard week without resupply. In extreme circumstances, the small post-cockpit area can be rearranged to seat a single passenger. The RebelX operates with a crew of one, plus one astromech.

In the end, flying the RebelX is basically like flying a slightly sluggish specimen of the classic X-wing with the engines dialed down to Corellian-transport levels. It is a highly intuitive if sometimes frustrating experience for some of Jorus' former Rebel Alliance pilots, and even more natural for freighter pilots with snubfighter experience. This places it in contrast to many other specialized, innovative vessels. The RebelX will never excel as a multirole gunship, but against the right target, it has few equals.
