Raxis Expeditions #2: Journey to the Badlands (Open to Jedi Types/ Lightside NFU's)

800px-Caldeum-bandit-city1_zpse4f64ea4.jpg
-------------------------------
Location: Orrazerus
Spawn point: Orra, the last Colony
Initially a Frontier Corps mission to Orrazerus to re-stablish contact, the mission has turned out to be an all out conflict for life over death of the inhabitants. Shortly after arriving our explorers found Orra, the last colony on the face of the planet. It has been built up over the years of salvaged space ship parts, blast doors and cheap materials. Hammerlocks Ranger used to keep it safe from the beasts that roamed the wilds, but as of late Sir Hammerlock has disappeared, and strangely enough new developments are occurring. Jedi types across the stars have received a distress beacon from Vassara and crew, before it faded out and contact was lost.
On the surface it appears that the Blazing Chains, a Dark Jedi Pirate fleet have been on the surface for a while influencing events. Their alchemists have managed to turn simple creatures into an army of horrors. Snake like species that shoot razor sharp spines, fast armored beasts with four legs and bone crushing jaws.
The planet has been largely overrun. Formerly it was owned by the Red Ravens, but after their collapse, the planet was left to fend for itself. You have landed in a time of great distress as the dark tides push inwards towards Orra...
-----------------------------------------------------
OOC: You have arrived at Orra and landed, making contact with the local Rangers. They explain that several camps and colonies in the badlands have been overrun. They need assistance both defending Orra, and retrieving their kinsman.
To the South, you will find two camps, mired deep in the mud, strewn with corpses. A few survivors are holed up here, waiting for extract. You might find lightsabers of fallen Blazing Chains operatives here, along with a few other odds and ends.
To the East a large force of Rangers are trapped. They have some heavy weaponry such as PLEX launchers and other crew served weapons that would be essential to pushing back the attacks. You might find a vehicle or two here (Red Ravens Tech), as well as an old datacron.
To the West a looming force approaches, quickly overtaking and destroying anything in its path. The gates of Orra are being reinforced for the coming battle. Help Hammerlocks Rangers repel the enemy until your comrades can round up every objective.
To the North looms a last colony full of medical supplies as well as some various starfighters. (Red Ravens Tech) You may be interested in helping explore the ruins, but beware you might be under scrutiny from Blazing Chains agents. Things you might find here, Starfighters, and Medical droids, maybe a loose med kit or two.
Rules:
1. Spawn at Orra and push out from there

2. Dont get greedy with items. Most of the Red Ravens Tech makes sense to be on this world, and can be stolen. I don’t want to see folks filling cargo freighters full of it, lest you get in some trouble with the staff.
3. Read the link here before beginning for background

4. You may do whatever you wish, so long as you are paired up with someone else.

Considerations:

There are two ways to travel here. By foot or by air. Keep in mind by foot, you risk the poisonous fauna of the world, the Alchemized animals, and Blazing Chains patrols.

By air you risk Blazing Chains air superiority patrols.

Orra will need defenders. I will not be DMing but I will be participating. Feel free to write your own opposition, DM or do whatever. Just have fun!

At the end of this thread those who complete objectives above will receive a rare item prize. FU user friendly mostly.

Have fun!

There was a look from the small padawan, remaining there as the armor gripped her body with a smirk on her face. The saberstaff on her hip and glowing necklace before she was rising up and leaving the section of the defenders hold to try and find th source of the distress beacon came. She didn't want to endanger herself but also wasn't just going to sit around waiting for somethign to come to her. She stood up and sealed the helmet of the mask moving forward with her phrik plates and one of the sasori staffs went to her belt so she could prod things before waiting to see who else came.

Another day. Another Jedi. Another damn fool, idealistic crusade.

What was he doing on Orrazerus? Excellent question. Did he have a good answer? Absolutely not. Were illegal gambling debts to blame? Likely so. Was he here to get away from credits he might owe to the Hutt Cartel as a result of an impromptu sabaac game on Formos? Possibly, but enough about the pint-sized Anzat.

If the Silver Padawan thought she was small, then the appearance of the youngling knight would doubtless be a huge boost to her ego. Except of course that they were up against Force-wielding space pirates. And nothing about the appearance of this Anzat youngling and Jedi Consular was apt to inspire a lot of confidence heading into a fight.

Though, he did know how to accessorize, as demonstrated by the two lightsabers and a small blaster strapped to his side. Sure, the reach of his arm was negligible. Instead of Soresu, he probably should have taken up Ataru. But who wanted to jump around all the time? Especially when you didn't care for heights all that much.

Looking over at the girl, the boy had the dread lightsaber Paperweight in one hand as he waved toward the padawan with the other.

Rangers ran about Orra like wild animals, under attack by predators. Vassara couldn’t blame them, the Blazing Chains were on the way, and eager to slaughter every last colonist here. Yes they would be the shield against the darkness, here to be the saviours of the people, but not by their own design.

This had been a blind jump, one which Vassara had taken Noriko and Sor on. It was supposed to be an adventure and turned out to be a giant death-trap. Shortly after landing she had sent a beacon out, after this situation had become clear to her. So now they waited.

Vassara stood in the town square of the colony. Spacers jacket of black with red trim, shotgun in a leather sheath at her back. Two sabers were tucked away in the hidden jackets of her coat and pistols of multiple varieties as well as utility pouches hung from her bantha leather gunbelt.

Hammerlocks Rangers looked underfed, under armed and under armored. They wore only simple black ballistic vests, made of armor weave with what looked like boonie caps. They had not standard uniform or weapons. Each had his own style of dress, some clad in orange jackets and black trousers. Some were clad in all homespun tan garments.

But each was disciplined, and deadly with their weapons of choice.

"Who the hells in charge of this outfit?" Vassara blurted out.

A bearded Ranger with twin shotguns slung on his chest turned and nodded. He was tall, black boots and the regular Ranger getup. Nothing all that special about him.

"That'd be me ma'am. Grim Salviris, Ranger Commander."

"Ok Grim, well I've had look at your walls. One of your scouts briefed me on intel reports from the local colonies. I'm going to dispatch two of my fellow warriors into the wastelands, see about recovering whatever they can. In the meantime, I’ll give a hand reinforcing the place and directing traffic. Distress beacons set but its dead. Hopefully some of my comrades heard it."

"I'd be most grateful Ma'am." Grim replied, spitting a huge wad of tobbacco into the grey dusty ground.

"Yeah ok. Well I'll be back in a moment, let me go find them."

They weren't too far away. Vassara approached the two of them, nodding.

"Alright guys. You find anything else out? I told the Ranger commander we could spare two outside the walls to go hunt down what they needed. Where were you guys thinking of going?"

Inside she was in turmoil. She should have never brought them. They should have never been dragged into this situation. This world, this place, she could feel was a haven of dark energies.

He had found his way to the planet Orrazerus, the Force guiding him to a den of darkness and danger. He strove to remember what the Force memory of Aayla Secura had told him before he had set off for the planet, Trust in the Force and it will guide you to your destination. Her words being repeated inwardly as he opened himself to the force and allowed his own presence in the force to become evident to those who could sense it. It was perhaps not the wisest of moves, but if there was any danger, at least it would show itself when it came for him - better to have it come to him, than to be surprised when he walk into a trap laid by it. Even as he walked through the small town, he could feel the darkness at the edge of his mind, encompassing and threatening.

A few weeks ago, he would not have been able to sense even the slightest hint of power in the Force, but his tutelage under Aayla allowed him to expand his senses and to rely more fully on the force. That did not mean he liked to leave his mind open to just anything, but at the moment it was the easiest of choices. It would allow him to find others of similar sensitivity in the Force as him, and perhaps they would be on the very task that he was - to find the source of darkness on the planet. He liked to think of himself as a Light-sider, preferring to eradicate all traces of the dark side. It was one of the many reasons that he needed to get away from Dathomir - the planet itself was full of darker aligned force users, and it had begun to affect him - the planets darkness seeping into his dreams and giving him unearthly nightmares.

He hadn't brought any weapons with him on the journey, but he was trained in hand to hand combat by the Night Brothers, so he was fairly sure that he would be able to hold his own. If not, the planet was a grave for those who came to hunt the larger game and failed, he could just 'acquire' a weapon from the dead. As it was now, he was dressed in a black leather jacket with a grey t-shirt and darker colored boots, already thick with the dust from the earth beneath him.

As he drew closer to outer walls of Orra, he could feel the presence of three other individuals that stood out in the Force. It was clear they were force sensitives, if not Jedi themselves, though by the feel of them at least two of them were indeed Jedi - their presence shining with a brighter pulse than the other one. He could feel the distress of the older one before he even saw her, her distress causing ripples in the Force. As he drew closer to them and identified them with his own eyes, he was surprised to find that two of them seemed to look as though they were no more than just little children. Where were their instructors?

It wasn't them that drew his attention so fully, as much as it was the older woman standing next to them - the one who gave off a feeling of inner turmoil. As he studied her, his sapphire eyes examining what he could see of her face, she seemed all too familiar. He couldn't place where he had seen her, if he had at all, but her presence in the force called to his own - almost like family. As he drew closer to them, he cleared his throat and spoke simply.

"Such turmoil is within you." that was likely as close to a hello as they were going to get, as he was never the greatest at introductions.

There were others there now as she was sitting about and moving towards the one who was waving as she thought he looked bigger until she got close. A double take but no comment came out while she was sensing the others around her with a hand amulet on her shoulder while she was moving seeing some of the ranger's moving. Her attention looking for what was around them as she spoke. "So do we have a plan beyond just looking around and hoping to avoid things?" She said it more friendly while looing around while she shifted her saber from her hip to her back on the strap just in case.

A plan?

Feth the plan. Just blow something up!

...now, why did this feel like Yinchorri Prime all over a again?

"There's talk of Rangers taking fire east of here," the young Anzat remarked, looking off to his right as he gestured vaguely to indicate the area outside the camp. Turning back toward the group, the boy opined, "We should try to recover those people and resources, to better consolidate our defense here."

Yes, he was voting for the path that would most certainly draw them into a direct conflict. If it was possible, he was very likely the worst Consular in the history of the Order.

So much was happening all at once. A new comer had entered the town, and he drew Vassara's attention immediately. Her icy blue eyes studied him, looking over every inch. There was something very very familiar about him. She had never seen him before, but a gut instinct said something more was here. Something... elusive.

Vassara slipped into the force, using a technique taught to her at the Jedi Academy for healing. Breaking down the physical barriers and looking for a persons patterns in the force. She could see every cell, every mididchlorian, every bone, down to the molecule and its place in the force. She pulled back, snapping to reality again and suppressed a gasp.

His patterns were almost exactly like hers.

She gave a nod.

"Yes I am in a great deal of turmoil. The situation at hand is unfolding quickly, and not with favourable circumstances."

Vassara made a mental note to revisit that, turning back to her two Jedi comrades.

Hammerlocks Rangers still continued to move about the place, setting up E-web emplacements on the walls. It was pitiful that they only had two and few boxes of power cells for them. The gates were being reinforced with durasteel welds, pressing plate upon plate to make them strong. They were bracing for what would be slaughter. Unless they could collect enough war material to hold out.

"Sure thing. Noriko, you're going with Sor-Jan. I like the idea of retrieving those Rangers and their weapons. We're going to need all the help we can get. Plus it will be a good experience for you."

"I'd be up for that too, unless you have something else in mind."

Audren had quietly appeared by the group. Well, not appeared, he'd walked there from the landing pad he'd been dropped at, but he hadn't announced himself or made much noise approaching. The transport that had dropped him here was barely visible in the distance, burning for space. This wasn't their scene.

While en route to another location, Audren's comm registered the distress call coming from Vassara Raxis, but it had faded out quickly leaving only a location. The Sephi wasn't particularly fond of Vass as she was a dark sider, but she was a member of the Coalition, and a valued one at that. She'd transported him to the surface of Zygerria which in turn allowed him to complete his objectives there, so the least he could do was respond to her distress call. It had taken some convincing, but he'd managed to persuade the captain of the transport to let him off on Orrazerus rather than continue directly to the destination. That the captain had been allowed the originally-agreed payment without having to wait around might have been the deciding factor.

Upon disembarking, it became obvious that this was not a 'civilized' planet. The crew had warned him, but seeing it made it more real. It reminded him of home to a degree, or what home would have been had there been a desert instead of forests. From a couple pockets of his carry-along bag, the Padawan drew a long vibroknife, couple shivs, and a blaster. This particular piece was a bit more powerful than the pistol he'd used on Zygerria, and a bit larger to boot. It was a lot like one of the ones he'd used with Coren Starchaser, in fact. Extendable stock, a more obvious power pack, a foregrip, a small sight, and a sling. Two spare powerpacks were slipped into a holster on the Sephi's left thigh. The blaster was slung across his back, the knife to his left hip, and three shivs to each wrist. These complemented the lightsaber hanging at his right hip. He'd never thought he'd carry this amount of weapons on him when leaving Cholganna, and hoped to downsize once he learned more about Jedi-style combat. A reputation as a walking armory wasn't something he particularly looked forward to.

From what he could tell of the place, it was severely understaffed and underpowered. Only a few generators were available for the gun stations, and the individual fighters had about as much ammo for their guns as he did. That was to say, not much. A contingent of Rangers - the local soldiers, not Antarians - to the East sounded like what the outpost needed to mount a good defense. The impregnable stone walls that the wave would crash on without breaking. Either that or do what he could to slow the advance of whatever wave was coming, if the conditions allowed. Vassara's decision, she knew more about the situation than he did.

Ah it was Audren! Vassara was happy to see him again. That meant that the distress beacon had actually worked as was intended. there was a storm brewing on the horizon, dark clouds hung low over the atmosphere. Vassara could not tell what kind of storm it would be, but predictably aid rain judging by the volcanic activity of this place.

Besides the colony looked half melted and worn down, despite being put together of wood, stone and salvaged ship engines and the like. There was a large crashed freighter in the center of the square and a small staircase, leading up to an observation platform built on top of it. Hammerlocks Rangers seemed very resourceful, able to throw a lot of things together and come out with something.

"Audren, nice to see you. Actually I have a different task for you two. The Rangers Commander says they lost contact with a colony south of here several weeks ago. They claimed there's a lot of folks that were holed up there, it was sort of a last colony before the last colony."

Vassara's ice blue eyes flitted between the two. She realized she hadn't asked the young man's name, the one who looked similar to her in some weird way. The fact that she was throwing him in the battle with Audren without knowing much about him had escaped her completely.

"You."

She said, pointing towards him.

"I never got your name anyways, who are you again?"

She was surprised someone knew her name while standing there with a grin on her face seeing the others there now. A lost colony sounded like a fun place to go and scout out or rescue before she was touching her hip and speaking. "Alright I can handle anything, just point the way." She brought up the little map on her forearm pad before she was moving towards the consular who was young looking but hell he seemed to be in charge... That at least got him some things and he had a good idea maybe. If worse came to worse she could hold to that noble tradition of advancing backwards.

The small Consular nodded his respects toward [member="Vassara Raxis"].

Another time, another place, he'd have very much enjoyed the opportunity for introductions all around, as there was no shortage of new faces for the young Anzat. "By your leave," the boy remarked, flashing a brief smile to the assembled group as he turned to depart.

The young woman to accompany him seemed an interesting individual. There was something about her that was almost out of sync. As though the mind and the body were not as they should be. A slight variance in the presence of her being. The innately empathic Anzat couldn't help but be curious about her, least of all for the fact that he didn't know her name. "SJ," the youngling knight offered by way of introductions, as the pair approached the gate that would lead them out of the sanctuary of the Ranger camp.

Waiting to give the girl an opportunity to introduce herself, the boy turned to the task at hand.

"How's your Force Speed?" the boy inquired, turning his attention up to the girl as they stood just inside the gates. "We'll have some ground to cover, and will need to move swiftly."

"My name is Coryn." he answered the woman who had questioned him directly. His tone making it all but written on paper, that he was now wary of the direction the conversation was taking. He didn't usually share his personal information with people he hardly knew, even if there was something familiar about them. For all he knew the Force could be under the influence of the woman before him to make her seem familiar to him, problem was - he didn't know what to believe. It didn't matter, he doubted he would say more on the matter at the given time anyway, there was work to be done.

He turned without another word and headed in the direction indicated by the leader of the group that had assembled, the last location of one of the few colonies that had remained on the world. He had to give it to them, they were brave - living on a world where everything and its mother could - and would - kill you without second thoughts. It was much like Dathomir in that respect, you either fought and survived among the Night Brothers or you were deemed unworthy and sent to die in the wilds. And, if you happened to survive, you may have had the 'fortune' of being chosen by a Night Sister to become their mate-slave, but only if you were to pass the trials that were given to you.

What was it with that world? You'd think they were obsessed with trials and tests, slaves and power, all that stuff. It didn't matter to him though, he had escaped the life afforded to him, he had a chance to become something more - and he would do everything within his power to see that eventuality come to fruition.

As he walked away from the assembled group, his gait that of a hunter himself, his mind found itself going over every detail that he had seen of the woman who led them. He hadn't caught her name either, but those blue eyes... he only knew one other person who had them -- him. Granted, there were likely millions upon millions in the galaxy with blue eyes like his, but hers were near identical, if not off by a mere pigment. It was unnerving to feel a sense of family with someone you had never met before. That was why he had walked away as he did, he didn't want to walk down that road just yet. He wasn't ready.

Not just a week, several weeks out of contact. That was enough time to walk from one location to the other and back, assuming it had only been an equipment malfunction. Vassara and the Ranger Commander had immense faith in the people of that community to survive. A few days was to be expected, a week was impressive, but several weeks would be miraculous. It was their home, sure, but multiple weeks without communication didn't bode well.

"Are we expecting survivors? And are we expected to bring what we find back here?"

Each question added a bit more clarity to the dynamic. He'd be looking for survivors either way, but he'd be looking for more different signs if they were expecting them. As for bringing things - bodies or living people - back, they'd need some method of transport. Heck, if they wanted to get there and back in a reasonable amount of time they would need some sort of transports. The environment was not hospitable in the slightest, and that was before any alterations had been made. Enclosed speeders would be optimal, as there had been reports of air patrols. Maybe this Coryn was content to walk there, but Audren would prefer not to.

She looked at the other jedi when he asked about her speed and she grinned. "Well not as fast as my sister but I can manage, though she likes to not get touched when she is running. I like running through a battlefield and taking out as many as I can." She had been there when sith invaded Tython and kicked ass against their minions it was the big one who had thrown her out a window. So she wasn't to bad with the minions. "Just say the words and I'll follow your lead." She had her saber ready in her hand to use and touching the activating studs to quickly switch as needed to make a clear path.

The young boy shrugged, the gesture sliding the green robe from off his small form. Leaving it in a pile by the gate, the youngling knight stood in the brown tunic. The warm earth tones a testament to his upbringing as a Jedi Sentinel, as much as the green robes on the ground spoke of a Corellian legacy.

Reaching to his belt, he took hold of the larger of the two lightsaber handles. Holding it in his right hand, the boy bounced up on his toes as he shook out his muscles and prepared his mind. When he had looked back up, the Anzat winked at the young padawan and said only, "The word is given."

And, with that, he was gone.

In a blur, he dashed out from the camp. His movements belied a predatory nature kept well guarded. But he was nothing human. In fact, he was quite the opposite. More than animal. More than man. An apex predator, sleeping in the light. Always fearful of the end of the innocence, when night would fall and he would become the sum of all fears.

As the pair advanced upon a patrol, the boy flipped his lightsaber around into a Shien style grip. Leaping high into the air, the boy brandished an emerald blade as he moved to draw first blood.

The word came and her lips tugged into a small smile. The tension in her muscles releasing as she was running forward, the lighter foot falls with fore energy wrapping through her muscles. THen surging deep into the tissue before she followed the feeling of the other jedi using a straight path in front of herself. her arms pumping as she gripped the saber and moved with the trees and around the different things that went into her way. Allowing herself to jump or twist and keep her momentum while her breathing was focused to reach what they were looking for so they could get the element of surprise.

As the familiar one walked off and Vassara heard Audren speak she gave him a roguish wink. And then locked her blue eyes onto his. Her arms crossed and she grinned a little. He was so young in the force. She could sense a bit distrustfull as well. She had that effect on people.

"Young Master Sykes, have you no faith? We may walk different paths, but I was once a stalwart Jedi, never once using the Darkside or Bogan as the Je'daii call it."

She tilted her head to the side a little. Behind her the Rangers continued to scramble, as they had been for several hours now, frantically setting up defenses, reinforcing weak points.

"I realize it seems far fetched. Use your feelings, trust your instincts. You are a Jedi, and admittedly a far better one than I could have ever been. Let that moral courage shine forth. There is survivors no doubt. Save them."

She hadn't anymore time at that point. The camp needed supervision. Having years of tactical experience against all sorts of creatures from Reavers and Pirates to the Dark Jedi to the Sith; her knowledge came invaluable to Hammerlocks Rangers.

"Go."

She whirled, black spacers coat trailing behind her as she stalked towards the crashed freighter where a small operations center had been set up. Grim Salviris, their CO was already present. As always a dip in his lip the size of a star destroyer.

"Alright gentlemen. Give me a sit rep?"

He didn't know if the one that was paired with him was following him to their given destination or not, nor did he truly care. It really wasn't that great of a distance to the South Colony from Orra, the settlements having had to remain fairly close to one another to trade and such - on a world this dangerous, they needed to be close. Plus, he grew up on Dathomir, getting by unseen was his forte. That was why he preferred to walk on foot to the colony, through the wilds. He still needed to train himself in the art of getting by unseen, and the only way to train (though not the safest) was to get out in the field and do it. Training aside, he relished in the feeling of nature, it was the one thing on Dathomir, aside from the constant planning to break free, that kept him resistant to the dark side.

His refusal to submit was one of the reasons that he never truly belonged on Dathomir, and it was why he left the planet it search of a better life. It was how he had found his ship, and how he had been guided to the footsteps of his destiny. It was how he had ended up on this planet, his inability to not help those that needed it. That's not to say that he was not tempted many times to follow the dark side, but always his mind would go to the millions upon millions of people in the galaxy that already had much to worry about, and he didn't need to add to that worry. He had decided to become a force for Good and Light - to follow Ashla.

That was why he was on the planet, why he was risking his own life to save others. He wanted to be good.

As she started talking, he frowned slightly and caught himself before he interrupted. He may have reservations about the woman but he had reservations about everyone at this point in time. Hearing his thoughts about her spoken so blithely, especially thoughts he hadn't voiced to anyone, was slightly disconcerting. But as she drifted back onto the matter at hand, so did he. Audren hadn't been asking out of a sense of doubt, even if he did doubt survival. He'd moved past his doubt to the logic needed to determine the best method of finishing the task. The way she'd responded made it seem like it was something less, and her response felt like manipulation to boot. The dismissal at the end - and it was clearly a dismissal - didn't bother him nearly as much.

The Sephi stared after her for a moment before minutely clenching his jaw and heading after Coryn. He didn't know a thing about the man, and in all honesty didn't really need to. As long as he did his part, Audren would do the same. For whatever reason, the tattooed man appeared to prefer walking, so the Padawan would do the same. It would be fine form for him to lose track of the man and have him die out in the wasteland as a result. And that was a possibility; something seemed wrong here. 'Nature' didn't seem to fit together right. Maybe he was just used to forest ecologies.

Closeness was defined by speeders in modern day. A thirty-minute ride in a speeder was considered close, where such a distance would take hours to walk. Even on Orrazerus, where protection was important and trade even more so, 'close' was a five or ten minute speeder drive, a good hour's travel on foot. People didn't move here for the nosy neighbors. At least he'd have the time to get a feel for the planet.
