Description:

Utilizing existing mass driver technology the Gauss Rifle was born. A medium rate of fire heavy impact weapon it can punch through most durasteel armours as well as hardier armours and structures.

The technology was downsized to make a repeater rifle in Colaps attempt to grant the Ravens an exclusive weapon much like the OP Bolter. The barrel was made into the shape of a hexagon and magnetic rails were added internally, giving the gauss rifle a unique ability to launch the projectiles by magnetic force.

As a result the speed and velocity of the projectiles is greater than a slugthrower and more powerful than a blaster. Unfortunately it cannot fire as rapidly as it's counterparts in the galaxy. Magnetic charge takes a vast amount of energy from the power cells.

The hexagonal barrel was adapted to make hexagonal flat headed slugs, which can strike a target without ricocheting. The slugs will barrel into their mark and flatten out mimicking the Hollowpoint effect. The mighty velocity of the slugs causes a lot of friction in the barrel causing warping and melting. If you're using this bad boy you have to carry extra barrels.

Barrels not swapped out after 1000 rounds will become destroyed and render the weapon useless.

Hexagonal slugs are made my melting Tungsten a heavier metal into a Hexagonal mould and then cooling it. A simple archaic technology.

The drawback of the weapon is a low rate of fire 3 rps. Scaled against blasters and conventional slughtrowers the weapon is a medium rate of fire but a strong punch when it hits.

The weapon packs a large recoil and sustained fire will tilt the muzzle up resulting in a decrease in accuracy.

A secondary drawback of the weapons is it's power cell consumption. In order to fire a lot of rounds you're gonna need a stack of powercells to power the magnets.

Again, I suggest the weight be around 4kg.
Also, I hardly would call 3 RPS a weakness with a weapon designed to fire rounds at 1 km/s+. A 300 m effective range is rather low for a weapon that is accelerating the velocity of each bullet. I want the issue of barrel degrading due to the heat that this rate of fire and the velocity of the bullet exiting the barrel causes to be addressed.
