Rain, Rain Go Away

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter. The droplets came slowly, then in sheets. They fell on her face, stinging and wet. By the time her eyes fluttered open she was soaked to the bone. Kate stirred, then sat up sharply, arms clutched to her sides. She shivered from the cold.

Where am I?

Blinding light seared her eyes. Kate threw up a hand. A speeder flew past, engine whining. Kate reached out a hand, pushed off the curb and stood up. Wild eyes darted about the now empty street.

What happened?

... a fight? Pain. Fingers darted to her ribcage, pushing, prodding. No ache, but she remembered them breaking, remembered her breath leaving her in a rush, gasping for air. And then? Nothing.

Trembling, she backed away from the gutter, reaching for her pistol. Her fingers found nothing. No sidearm. No vor'cha stick. Lost? Kate clutched at her temples. Aing-Tii monks gave that to her as a gift. No armor, no weapons. How?

Spark. She'd been with Spark. They'd been ambushed by a Sith. And then he'd hit her with that ball of energy. Whatever happened between then and now was just a blank spot in her memory.

Strands of wet hair slipped down across her face. She pushed them away. In the distance stood the silhouettes of buildings. Kate started walking toward them.

Drenched pants stuck to her skin. Wet socks squelched in boots. They chaffed. Kate hunched her shoulders, arms clutched to her chest, and soldiered on.
